RavenOfSummer Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 Creating a thread for additional discussion for those joining the Sacred Days of Midsummer reading! This is how it was done at AT, but mods please let me know if you'd like things done differently here  This year's group reading thread for the Sacred Days of Midsummer has been created! For those who haven't done it before, this is a group reading (i.e., we're all reading for ourselves using the same spread) done over the course of 12 days, with one card pulled each day. The idea is to journey together through the sacred days around the Summer Solstice. Please join us! Use this discussion thread to chat away about what deck you're thinking of using, ideas for keeping your card layout safe from kids or cats for 12 days, how your life has been going since the Sacred Days of Yule reading, etc. <3 <3 <3
RavenOfSummer Posted May 28, 2018 Author Posted May 28, 2018 Deck discussion time! As always, such a big decision to choose a deck for a 12-day Sacred Days reading! For those participating, what decks are you thinking of using? Or have you already decided? I'm still debating for mine. I'm thinking of using the Star Tarot- I was actually planning to use the Star for last year's Midsummer reading and had the deck on pre-order, but then the release date got pushed back to August ;D So that plan didn't work out too well. I ended up using the Prisma Visions for last year's Midsummer reading and then used the Star for the Yule reading. I may use the Star this time? But I'm just not sure yet. Also, remember that there are no rules for this group reading, so all participants should feel free to choose any tarot OR oracle deck of their choosing! Or if you want to use multiple decks (one tarot and one oracle card each day, etc) that is fine too ^-^
Rose Lalonde Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 Thanks for this thread and for hosting again, RavenOfSummer! I don't have the Star Tarot you mentioned, but I do like what I've seen online. Last time I went with Tabula Mundi. It's still the one I read with most, but I think I may treat this as an opportunity to work with something well outside my usual. Not sure which yet... Looking forward to seeing what everyone decides to read with. :)
Whisper Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 Not sure what deck will come forward, but one will certainly pop into my mind. I've never done a card a day like this, so it will be great. Looking forward to everyone's readings.
DanielJUK Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 I am in for my first ever Midsummer Sacred Days and thanks for doing this Raven <3 :) The Summer Solstice is on the 21st June this year on the calendar so it makes all the dates work out okay :D
Flaxen Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 I haven’t decided yet either. I was thinking perhaps Tarot of the Sidhe. I’d like a deck which has that ‘high summer’ feel - something bright, positive and full of life and warmth. I’m looking at my decks and nothing is jumping out at me at the moment. Bookworm Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 I'm going to use my new Enchanted. It's going to be my June deck, so decision-making is easy. Plus it looks summery! :)
RavenOfSummer Posted May 30, 2018 Author Posted May 30, 2018 Yay, so excited you are all joining!! <3 <3 Love hearing the thoughts on deck choices. Still leaning towards the Star but will be giving this more thought in the next week... I am in for my first ever Midsummer Sacred Days and thanks for doing this Raven <3 :) The Summer Solstice is on the 21st June this year on the calendar so it makes all the dates work out okay :D Yes, I was thinking about this! I suppose we would have to shift things if the Solstice was on a different date. I know BlueDragonfly has dealt with that before with the Yule reading. I'll have to ask her what she did.
Bookworm Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Still leaning towards the Star but will be giving this more thought in the next week... That looks like such a beautiful deck.
Flaxen Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 I’m thinking I may go for the Zillich - it’s got quite a summery palette and I think it could work well for this. I’m quite tempted to ‘quarter’ the reading and use 4 different decks. Was also thinking about a ‘bright’ deck for the days leading up to the solstice and then a ‘darker’ deck post solstice to symbolise the waning power of the sun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rose Lalonde Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Flaxen[/member] yes, Zillich is the most summery deck I own now. May have to remember that for the Yule reading. :) -- I've decided on Tarot of the Crone for these clear, cold starry nights.
Jewel Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Ohhh I am joining this for sure! ;D I think I will take this opportunity to pull my Green Witch tarot back out! ;D I love that deck and have sorely missed using it. I am off to sign up for this ;D
DanielJUK Posted May 31, 2018 Posted May 31, 2018 Zillich has lovely flowing Watercolour images for the Summer! [emoji274] I don't really have a Summery deck but now thinking of using the Ostara Tarot that I won for the April competition here. I know it's Spring by definition but think it could work out well [emoji2]
Magic Waffle Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 For those of us in the Southern Hemisphere this may be a little hard :( i love the idea of this thread though, i hope you guys have fun ! i think the Fairy Tarot would be excellent for this though :)
Bookworm Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Hi Magic Waffle, I know Rose Lalonde[/member] is planning on joining in with an adaptation of this spread for the southern hemisphere. You might want to check out the Group Reading thread for this to see her post. :) Bookworm
DanielJUK Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 would hate for you to feel left out Magic Waffle :'( on Raven's spread, all the days are pretty neutral for either hemisphere, only the 21st is really different. There is another option for that on the link Bookworm posted, on the 21st - We are at the height of the sun’s power, the longest day, in the Northern Hemisphere; OR, if you are joining from the Southern Hemisphere, this day is the turning point for the days to get longer. This card shows us how to shine our own light like the Sun. I am sure you could change the positions how you would like or why not do the winter solstice spread we normally do in December? I am sure Raven won't mind. This is the Winter Solstice Spread here. This spread is based on the original Yule one although the Winter one is very Christmas themed. But you could take the positions you want and make it your own. This is the position for the Winter Solstice in the original spread.... Yule - Winter Solstice: - Dec 21st This card shows us how best to connect to the Light within and without - it symbolizes the Birth of the Sun Hope you will join us if you want to <3
Rose Lalonde Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Magic Waffle[/member] I did this reading last year and enjoyed it. As Daniel mentioned, despite the title of Midsummer, there's a reference to both hemispheres on the solstice, and I just change the word summer to winter in my post. Also, check out the 2nd position for the goddess of the hearth - the fire in the home and how to tend it. It's surprisingly fitting for us. (Most of the rest doesn't actually refer to it being warm - ripening strawberries being the exception.) Anyway, it's entirely up to you, of course. :) Just sharing that I feel welcomed with this group.

As others have said the Southern Hemisphere is also acknowledged in the Solstice spread position. If you feel called to this please do join us <3
Magic Waffle Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 Hey guys thanks for the encouraging messages! <3 i think i will try to do what Rose Lalonde[/member] suggested :) hmmm i think i will have to pull my Revelations Tarot deck out :) always felt like a bit of a wild card deck to me haha
OutoftheAshes Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 Magic Waffle[/member], I had the Revelation tarot and loved the visuals but it was just too difficult for me to read with all the busyness of the cards. I can't wait to see a full reading with them. <3 I can't decide on a deck. I've been away from my normal routine for so long now that I thought choosing a deck.would be simple but I was mistaken. There's not alot of time but I may order a new deck from.my wish list for this. I've been holding off buying a new deck for months now and it feels like the time is right. <3 Does anyone have any suggestions for a deck leaning towards the Thoth system or inspired from?
Rose Lalonde Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 ...Does anyone have any suggestions for a deck leaning towards the Thoth system or inspired from? OutoftheAshes[/member] there's this thread about Thoth inspired decks if you haven't seen it. (My favorite deck is Tabula Mundi which is inspired by the Thoth, but I mention it at the link above. It's also available with companion book as a Fool's Dog app.)

I'm not at all knowledgeable about Thoth decks, but I believe the Vision Quest is Thoth inspired, and that one has a very summery vibe to me.

Oh, right, Summer... the new Zillich Tarot which is Thoth inspired with minor differences, is also very summery. (And easy to come by quickly probably, since it's mass produced.) There's more info in the Thoth inspired thread I linked to above and in the deck thread.
Flaxen Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 Does anyone have any suggestions for a deck leaning towards the Thoth system or inspired from? I’m going to use the Zillich - it feels very summery to me. If you like decks with include a lot of symbolism then Tabula Mundi or Rosetta would be good choices.
