Welcome, Katie!  <3 <3 That is a deck I have admired from afar- very summery indeed!

The Summer Solstice is on the 21st June this year on the calendar so it makes all the dates work out okay  :D

Yes, I was thinking about this! I suppose we would have to shift things if the Solstice was on a different date. I know BlueDragonfly has dealt with that before with the Yule reading. I'll have to ask her what she did.

meant to reply to this before! Both solstices can be 20/ 21 /22 of June or December depending on the year. It's really complicated though and ended up a big thread on AT! Some people who follow a strict calendar of festivals don't use the calendar date anyway and work out days or lunar divide between the wheel of the year. So they have their own drawn out calendar. I think Blue just let people deal with it however they want. One year a few years ago, Yule was a different day and some people just followed the usual spread (not literally linking the days but having them just represent the days) and other people shifted the days so the winter solstice fitted (but if you do that, all the other days like Christmas Day are then out of sync). We don't have to deal with it this year, phew  :))

Thank you for everyone's direction on Thoth/Thoth-inspired decks.  <3

The Tabula Mundi is what I'm drawn to but then I realized the space I had last year isn't available this time around so..I went to the drawing board and found a hanging clip-on picture display I adore and I guess we'll see how it goes.

Now that that's taken care of, I have to use a smaller deck. I have two decks that would be the right size for a 12 card spread.

There's the Tarot of the Trees and the Four Seasons Tarot??

I'm stuck on this. They're both small decks but not exactly what I was thinking of.

The Zillich tarot is one i didn't look into. Maybe its a smaller deck by chance?

I'm so excited for this reading. I don't tend to do many big spreads for myself, but this and the Yule spread have been so supportive and helpful In so looking forward to it.  <3 <3

hey OutoftheAshes[/member]

My Zillich tarot came today (there is a thread recently over here discussing it with pictures of the card if you want to read through it). The card pictures are beautiful watercolour images, so the images flow into one another with different colours, it's quite abstract. It is Thoth based but I am going to read it RWS style until I get better at Thoth. Each card has Thoth symbols on and the title in a white border at the bottom. They are small cards, I think it's the Poker size style and come in a useful metal tin case!

What is nice about it and why everyone is talking about it for this group reading is that the colours are quite summer themed and have a nice flow to them. I will be trying it out for the first time in this reading  :)

Hmm, yes, just seen OutoftheAsh’s post and realised that I’m going to struggle to find anywhere to lay out a big spread for almost a fortnight.  I might have to give this some thought!  Is it ok if I tidy it away every evening?  Even if I can find space, in between the cat and the children, I’m reluctant to leave cards where they can be sat on/stolen/chewed...  ;D

Thank you DanielJUK[/member]! Wow, I never thought about all the complications since I've only done the readings in years they happened to line up so far. I can see it gets complicated quickly! I agree, glad we don't have to worry about it this year  :))

...Just looked it up and for Summer Solstice it looks like the next time it will be an issue for us is in 2020, when the solstice will fall on June 20. The Winter Solstice is on December 21 for the next 3 years  ^-^

I'm going to have to do the same. Do hope we can put it away every evening. [emoji4]

You can do this group reading however you want, we all have our own techniques. I've done the Sacred Days of Yule for many years and have my own system for doing it. I don't leave the cards out because I am worried they will be damaged and there isn't really space.

this is how I do it....

- shuffle the cards and pick a card at the top for the day

- study the card and think about it a bit (maybe contemplate / meditate) and then write it up on the thread for that day

- I put the card in a separate pile from the others

- The next day I shuffle the remaining deck and pick a card from the top

- At the end of the spread, I have a pile of 12 cards face down and then I lay them out as a spread, look at it and photograph it for my journal of the spread. I spend some time on the "overall" picture.

- When I put the cards away each day I use the deck box and separate card piles with the LWB.

There were variants of this from the different people who took part in sacred days. Some people dealt out 12 cards on day one in one go. Some people don't shuffle each time and just keep taking the next card. Some people put the cards back in the deck, so each day you can get any card but you do get repeats with this method.

My only personal strict rule is that during this ongoing reading, I take the deck aside and don't use it for any other readings. It has an ongoing energy with the reading that I don't want to break with other readings. So it's out of other readings until the group reading is over and I've finished it :)

You don't need to lay it all out, adapt it however works best for you  <3

Many thanks, DanielJUK[/member].  I'm going to adopt your method.

Now to decide on a deck.  I'm waiting for the postman to bring the Arthurian Tarot and had thought I might use that - but I agree with you that I want to keep the deck solely for the reading - and I'm not sure that I am disciplined enough to do that with a new, and therefore shiny and exciting, deck. ;D.

I love the decks you guys chose! I haven't really decided on mine yet, but I'm thinking of using something dark and gothic for the cold and rainy nights we're gonna be having. While summer's just beginning for most of you, ours has just ended with the beginning of our monsoon season.

I remembering I was feeling that way last year! Not too late to change! I think even if you start with a deck, you can swap out in the middle if your heart is leading you in a different direction.

I’m enjoying the playlist, thanks!  <3

I’ve pulled my first card - took my reading cloth and my deck into the garden and listened to the birds as the sun started to sink.  A lovely moment in the day.

Peace to us all.

Edited to add:  just realised the downside of reading outside on a summer evening - the dew is settling on my deck!  ;D.  (It has been hastily returned to its box indoors!)

Yes, thanks for the playlist! What a good idea.

I pulled my card this morning, and it felt great to be starting this after looking forward to it for a while. Tomorrow my daughter and her boyfriend are leaving, which is very sad, but the upside is that I'll feel like I can keep my reading out in view! ;)

I am so glad this is starting up too.  I also pulled my first card and posted.  I also printed out a copy of the flower with the spread on it and already taped my first little card print out to it.  This is going to be so fun!

I haven't felt so excited in a long while. ;D I decided to use the Tarot of Vampyres for this. It seems like this summer, quite a few use Thoth-inspired decks. This is going to be so much fun. :D

Ooh, wonderful choice!

Well similar to Flaxen[/member], I suffered from last-minute second thoughts about my deck choice. I actually pulled out the Star Tarot, and it just didn't feel right for some reason. So, I made a quick switch to the Celtic Wisdom! It gave me the exact card I think I need to get started for these Sacred Path days- The Challenger (The Devil), which definitely had a message I needed to hear.

Love seeing everyone getting started on their journey  <3 <3
