I was looking in my tarot books organizing them, and I found this beauty .

i looked at the book on amazon and saw it is oop, and it was $258 used from someone, course there is someone selling it used for 25 currently.

but that isnt' the point.

the point is i was ging to use this to complement my lenormand study with the playing cards meanings and i saw this book isnt' talked about in the card section here.

so you have your introduction

part one

the cards and their meaning.

symbolism and the suits

aces

two

threes

fours

fives

sixes

sevens

eights

nines

10

court cards

joker

part 2

reading the cards

timing

combos

layouts

sample readings

afterword

the whole book is only 160 pages ! , it was a deck and book combo..

alas i dont' remember how i got the book !!

it is still in good condition (except for some loose feelings in first page when i open it ) because of no use eheh.

anyhow i figure i would share that.

I haven't the Jane Lyle's book, but I find the cards very nice!!

Not sure that it is really expensive while OOP (at least currently -I took a quick glance at eBay- but these things change).

I searched a review concerning the book above to have a more detailed feedback about it, and found one on a webpage (link below); it looks balanced and fair/useful in my opinion because there are pros and cons regarding the set (book and cards).

Possible on my side that it is an approach with which I wouldn’t be confortable finally, because likely too psychological and modern, but other people could appreciate it for this reason, so depending on what we are searching.

It’s the last review on the page: http://www.tarotpassages.com/playingcard-lb.htm

What?  Andy's Playing Cards pages look like they've been removed!  I had that site bookmarked for like FOREVER.

Maybe it's a temporary situation? I guess people need to reorganize their website from time to time.

Good read, @Decan. I read then select dribs and drabs from most books nowadays. For instance, I like how Lyle modified the cards unobtrusively indicating upright and inverted. After many years of reading cards, I've come to the conclusion that there is no right or wrong way to read the cards --simply use one's own way and don't worry about it. So much information out there must be confusing to new readers.

I had the Sophia book and deck, sold the book (really told me nothing new) and kept the card deck as I like the diversity of the courts.

Yes, from what I read it's what people do with playing cards!

I'm at the point where I'm asking: can the playing cards have a more important role for me regarding how I deal with divination.

But if systems are there, methods are numerous, with no real consensus.

Over the past year or so I've been reading more with playing cards for myself --really, kind of going back and forth between tarot and playing cards. I used to read the tarot in coffee shops locally about seven years back to see how I liked it (--a pic of me in one shop --my husband took this while out walking our dog. 😄 ). I wonder if the public would be put off if I pulled out a pack of playing cards rather than tarot? I feel that people expect a tarot card reading nowadays? I don't know...

Nice pic!

I'm not a professional, but would tend to say that people in general expect from a fortune-teller a reading with tarot, or at least that this option be offered.

IME, the public just wants information. The vast majority of them don't care what kind of cards you're using to get it.
Kapherus has been reading playing cards professionally for years. He once talked about working a psychic fair, and not surprisingly, he was the only playing card reader there. The surprising part is that most of the others were angel card readers, not Tarot readers. I'm sure he was the only one actually answering peoples' questions, lol. IIRC, he was complimented by people who had been to the others and gotten non-answers to their questions.

There's a long tradition of readers using playing cards professionally. Tarot and books on Tarot weren't always as easily available as they are now. I'm sure a lot of people lived their whole lives without ever seeing a Tarot deck. If you're fluent and comfortable with playing cards, by all means use them. It will make you stand out from the crowd. 😉
