78 Weeks of Tarot - Sept 2017 - March 2019 - Informational thread

I thought, as we approach the start date for this study group, that I would write some general notes and thoughts on the Haindl Tarot that I'm going to be studying. Since it was kind of a deck review-ish kind of thing, I posted it in the Tarot Decks forum. Here is the link if you'd like to read it;

Thanks Trogon- I had a thought to do something similar, write down some general notes about my deck before we start. So this should all be done in Tarot Decks?

Well, that was kind of what I was thinking, yeah. But now that I think about it some more ... maybe I should've started a thread for general notes on our decks.

I'd like to participate, too

Thank you for organizing this study group, it sounds like exactly what I need right now!

I'll be using the Tarot Mucha, but I fully reserve the right to switch decks in the middle of this due to the inevitable deck-collecting that this forum will enable  ;)  I will, however, remain consistent in using a RWS inspired deck

Haha :D My sentiments exactly!

My Everyday Witch arrived and I already really like it but I'm still not quite sure about the deck I'll choose for this exercise. -At least for an Aries 78 weeks is an awfully long time..!

I love Mucha so I'll be interested to see what you will think about the cards and the discoveries you'll make.

I think a thread like that would be really relevant! That would make it easy for people to go and check up what the others had to say about the deck they choose  :)

Thanks to a question from another member I noticed this thread  :D Just in time before the beginning, and I wonder if I should join... I would love to do an in-depth study of the Tarot of the Sevenfold Mystery, and this could be the kick in the behind (so to speak) to get me started!

Thanks for making this possible, Trogon!

Thanks for setting up all the posts, Trogon. I'll join with Roots of Asia. It's been in my top 2 favorite decks for years, but a few months ago I received a copy of the good lwb in English, so it would be nice to reference that.

Raven, Wolf and Rose; you're all very welcome! It's great to have you with us. And really, it's never too late to join. ;) I'm looking forward to everyone's takes on the various decks. Though, it may prove to be very enabling ... ;D

Coming in just under the wire... But I think this is exactly what I need with the Slow Holler. I feel a strong connection with this deck, but at the same time so much of it feels just out of my grasp. I desperately need to study it, but I just like reading with all my decks way too much, so this study format is perfect. If there's any deck in my collection that I can see myself spending 78 weeks with, it's this one, even though I can see some issues with a couple of the more simplistic cards down the line...

Wow, 2019 huh? I wonder what all will be different by then... What a fun journey we get to take together! I'll be starting on Monday (and I'll probably already have to start doubling up since I'm getting my wisdom teeth removed soon... Unless you all really want to see some Valium-induced musings on the High Priestess).

Great to have you with us Lantana! I've seen that Slow Holler Tarot mentioned a few times (probably by you ;)), and am very curious to see your take on the cards. It is definitely different.

I hope the dental work goes well! And, you know, people used to use narcotics to open up their psychic abilities ... ;)

And yes, it will be interesting to see what else is going on during the next 78 weeks ...

I just looked at the Fool thread. Awesome - I do hope it keeps up like this. I think being a smaller group helps.

Yes, it is awesome, isn't it!

And now I want that Roots of Asia again. (WHY did I ever trade mine..!)

Yes! It is going great! A lot of very good observations. Thanks to all of you participating!

It's interesting how some cards seem harder to ''get a hold of'' compared to all the others.

For me the Magician card is one of them. With most decks I have a hard time getting to the core of its meaning. The Manga Tarot made no exception! This week is the High Priestess and I feel much more at ease working on it. Still, doing a whole week of studying one single card is a great exercise for cards that are hard to 'pierce'.

I can - if it doesn't seem like pushiness, showing off or whatever - post my posts from the old threads (Revelations and Thoth) every week...

Yes! Please do Gregory! I'd love to see what you came up with from those decks. Especially the Thoth as that is where the Haindl has it's roots.

Absolutely certain cards present difficulties. The Magician was a bit difficult for me, though part of it may have been because I didn't have quite as much time last week to dive in. But, even with less time, it was a good study and put me on a better footing. I'm looking forward to being able to gain a deeper understanding of several cards along the way. Not the least of which are Judgment ("Aeon" in the Haindl), and The World ("The Universe"). Then there are the Aces and the Courts in the Suits ... they still give me some trouble in readings. Though I'm slowly getting better with them.

The cards I have most issues with in life are strength and wheel...

OK - I will post later; my machine says it has a slow connection today (which is news to me...) and as I am uploading a very lot of stuff, I want to get that done...

I promised to join the study group last month but life is a joke. I am just so busy at the moment.

Think I am going to catch up soon...

I also struggled with last week's card, though that was because I had already fostered a dislike for that particular card. But the week made me realize, hey, this card does connect to the Magician! What a difference a week makes.

Next week (Empress) will be doubling up time, because I ended up kind of writing about both the Kindred and the Guild (Hierophant) in full for the Comparative Tarot .  :-[ Hopefully that will make it so I don't have to worry about catching up after recovering from oral surgery in late October.

I'm getting a lot out of this project so far. It's not easy for me, that's for sure. I had the same issues that some others had with the Magician, but it really helped to spend some quality time with him! The High Priestess, too, has always been difficult for me to get a handle on, but now I feel more connected. Onward to the Empress!

I'm trying to get a little ahead of schedule because I'm going away next week and I don't want to fall too far behind and get discouraged.

gregory, I hope you post the rest of your cards. It was really helpful to read the ones you've already posted.

So it seems I'm definitely not the only one who strugged with the Magician!

I also agree with everyone, gregory, if you feel like sharing examples you have from past years, that would be really nice  :) The more the merrier!

Looking at the math for this is quite fascinating. 78 weeks for the 78 cards in a Tarot deck. And 78 weeks equal exactly 1 1/2 years or eighteen months, give a day or two.
