Rose Lalonde Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 Your experiences with coloring the major arcana or the entire deck.
Rose Lalonde Posted February 5, 2019 Author Posted February 5, 2019 I've colored in the majors in the Book of Maps, and decided to keep going through the minors but am nowhere near finished with that. I like that after I color a picture of the card, I tend to think about color more when I'm working with that card, as though I've personalized it even though it's still b&w. A couple of unusual color choices came up, and I just kind of... went with it. 8) Things like the green sky in the Hanged Man. Probably because he's upside down and I'd just colored the water blue like a sky, I found myself wanting paint the sky a color I'd normally paint the ground. There are some impressive coloring jobs online! Throughout my coloring I felt like the color choices were the most important part for me. So yeah, these are not going to compete with some of the amazing work I've seen, but I'm happy with them. It's a good way to get myself looking at a card and taking an active role in how I see it.
Flaxen Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 Love your colouring choices! It’s a nice way to bond with the deck. I’m hoping to start my colouring process at the weekend.
Flaxen Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 I’ve started colouring in the Book of Maps - I’ve gone for picking out symbols approach rather than the whole card. It’s been fascinating to see what has jumped out at me so far and colours I’ve picked. This deck has a powerful presence though - even before starting the colouring, particular cards were appearing in dreams.
Flaxen Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 I’m about half way through now. I decided just to choose a few symbols I was drawn too on each card. It’s quite fascinating looking back that there are lots of repeating symbols and colours. Will have to do some ruminating on the significance of these.
AstralPasta Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Here are my rough drafts and tests so far 😁 I'll probably keep updating the album so I can track my progress. https://m.imgur.com/a/EDnVbFf I'm pretty proud of myself bwahaha. Also I'm enjoying these markers.
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 (edited) color was a huge part of Waite and Crowley decks, totally to do with symbology, so if stumped with what to do, look back to the originals, why is something red and not yellow sort of thing. You can make your own symbology, but meaning is key and it is a important learning process in delving deeper into tarot. Edited June 24, 2019 by AJ-ish/Sharyn

I was coloring in my Book of Maps, so needed to not bleed through, but I like the sharpness of it and your notes and tests along the side. I especially love your second Priestess, which it looks like isn't your favorite, but I really associate that card with the blue you chose, and I love the contrast you got with the green and the pomegranate red. Also like how the scroll looks like old parchment.

I am a little worried about bleed through with the Book of Maps. I don't have it yet. Are the images printed on separate pages (back and front), or is there text on the back of the pages? If the former, I can slide some thick paper under the page while I'm coloring. I might just see if I can glue the text into it where the bleed through is too extra (like with darker colors). Or I could use white out or something on the other side. Haha sounds like a lot of work though aaiiiiee 😅

Perhaps you can color the art separately and then glue the images on top of the images in the book? (Or if you haven't seen it, there's the facebook group with a lot of posts about coloring and such, and you might see additional ideas there. 🙂 )

That'd be cool, except I'd want to color the minors too....I don't remember, maybe we get scans of those too actually. Though I guess I could just make copies or something. Or get it printed it looseleaf, but I don't really want to haha. Thanks for the link! Edited July 3, 2019 by AstralPasta Typos
