It takes some time when you open your intuition in full range, sis. I had many times of meditation and I was close to god and for 1st time I bought tarot; and by my intuition I got then right "a-h-a" moment and stop shuffle the cards and pull out them for read. I was weak in early time, but later my answers are 100% correct. I feel also when I pull wrong cards too soon before right ones.
Barleywine Posted August 18, 2019 Posted August 18, 2019 As far as reading with a deck, I can read with anything since "a card is a card is a card." If I recognize it as the Devil even if it looks nothing like Old Scratch, I'll see "Devil" and read it accordingly based on my knowledge and experience. Appreciating a deck is another matter. I have quite a few decks I can't appreciate on an artistic level so I don't read with them. Which solves the "connection" problem.

Even if I sat there with the guidebook and looked up every card, I couldn't make sense of what they mean for ME if that makes sense. Maybe I shouldn't read for myself? Could be I'm simply so boring the cards don't have anything to tell me 🤔 You just need to practice putting them in context. Reading cards is all about context, IMHO. I had a situation the other day, I ordered some boots and I wasn't sure they would fit well. I drew some Kipper cards (but the same thing would apply to Tarot) and the main card in the spread was "Winning Much Money". The meaning is money you don't have to earn: lottery, gifts, bonuses, etc. Obviously, I spent money on the boots. So I wasn't getting money out of this! And I wasn't asking about that, anyway. When you look at the essence of the card, Winning Much Money is an unexpectedly lucky break, it makes you happy. The boots not only fit, they required no breaking in. They were perfect. I wore them all day, no blisters or sore spots. A common problem that new Tarot readers run into is "I asked about something, but the cards are talking about something else". People ask about love and get those pesky Wands talking about "enterprises." But isn't a relationship a kind of enterprise? The dictionary defines "enterprise" as "a project or undertaking, typically one that is difficult or requires effort." That could definitely apply to romance! Any card can talk about love, or money, or art, or your cat, new boots, the weather, gas prices, etc. By all means, DO read for yourself! Nobody crawls out of the womb, deck in hand, knowing all this stuff. We all had to study and practice (mostly reading for ourselves in the beginning), and there's a lot of us here to help you, if you want. Seriously, it's well worth the time and effort it takes to study meanings and think about how they might apply to different kinds of questions.

If you take half-a-step back and apply what I call a "soft focus" to the interpretation, you get a broader perspective that can be more inclusive. I like to think of the tarot as infinitely flexible and elastic; all you have to do is connect the dots in creative ways to make sense of it.

If you know before which cards are the "right ones", you wouldn't need the card at all or am I missing something here? (No offence; I'm just not a native speaker and have no idea if I understood that right 😉 ) @Barleywine I do appreciate the deck on an artistic level (mostly) - that's the crux. Therefore I have no idea if really the deck is the problem or if I'm just not cut out for tarot 😳
