Guest D76 Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 What makes you think it has bad energy? and what knowledge do you have that it is a dark and dangerous zone? Very simple answer I have : For me, the "background" of various Tarot decks is very important. The person who created one or another Tarot deck is important. The history (step by step) of one or another Tarot deck – is important to me. Occultists of the new formation (19-20 century) do not cause me to trust. They perverted the tarot – there are a lot of fraud and a lot of lies. And I don’t want to use the decks they have created. First of all: this is Etteilla, Eliphas Levi, Papus, Samuel Liddell Mathers, and of course – Arthur Waite and Aleister Crowley. They turned everything upside down….Here I fully agree with Michael Dummett. I like only one "pure occult" Tarot deck (not clone) ... This deck is not is not generally known. And the creator of this deck is also known to very few people. He was no conjurer and charlatan, but he was an honest guy ( never set the world on fire). And was very talented. But don't ask me what kind of deck ...
Guest D76 Posted April 22, 2019 Posted April 22, 2019 Or perhaps Etteilla too ? Wirth ? Etteilla - 100% no, of course.)) Wirth - maybe, because it is very close to TdM.
MysticMonkey Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 Thoth tarot. I think the deck is visually stunning and feel like I should at least look through the cards once in a while for comparison sake but I have zero interest in the symbolism used, it's just not my cup of tea at all, for various reasons.
zurgles Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 For me, it’s the Ophidia Rosa. It’s a pretty deck but it’s a little hard to read with. I remember watching a video by a youtuber called Nobody’s Here (who then changed their name and started talking about their book collecting and then I think maybe disappeared - I really liked their channel) reviewing the deck saying the actual tarot seemed to be the lwb/pamphlet that had short little poems as the descriptions for the cards. They compared it to a type of asian divination system but I can’t remember which. I think I agree. The cards are meant to be used intuitively so they haven’t told us what plants are used in the cards either, which is a little frustrating. I do like the deck and the poems are interesting, but it’s a little difficult for me to use, so I don’t pull it out much. I don’t think I would’ve bought it for myself, but I got it in a good trade so I can’t really complain. The box and card stock are nice too. It’s very aesthetic. Maybe eventually I’ll give it a little more of my time and focus.

I always mean to take it out and try to work with it, but I never seem to get around to it. Love the Gendron. On 4/16/2019 at 11:09 PM, Guest D76 said: RWS - the worst tarot deck ever. Used it once and immediately after that, - threw it in the rubbish box. Shocking! My view here is alla @gregory. On 4/21/2019 at 10:07 PM, Guest D76 said: Why ? I think that this deck has a very bad energy. Therefore, it is so popular. I know very well the history of the occult tarot. And I know how much this is a "dark and dangerous zone." And unpleasant ... You are beginning to sound like a Troll. And at this rate - you will hardly be reading with any deck at all. 🤣 (if you know the history). Sorry - I just had to express this. But we just stare at each other with a total lack of communication  😆. I would say mine is the Thoth. I absolutely LOVE the artwork of the THOTH. Frieda was a GENIUS imo (and I have so enjoyed on various occasions, hearing about her and getting a bit of a flavour of who she was - from various lectures). But... sadly (or not) I am RWS trained and I cannot read with pip decks. If this deck had illustrated minors - it would be my GO TO, hands down. 🙃. And - though I learned with the RWS - I never actually liked Pam's art here. Hence began my search for an RWS style deck that I DID like... and so now, I have quite a collection of all sorts of things. (nowhere near @gregory 🙃 - I'd love to see that in person). So... I do use the majors and Aces of the Thoth - for Magick.
