At the moment, all the card deck boxes are scattered around my bookcases, wherever there is room. It must be my Virgo Moon, but I'm fanatical about having all the Tarots and related cards / books in ONE place. Helpful when I have clients if i get a sudden urge to use a different deck -- it's easy to find. But even sans the professional factor -- I'm just wired that way 😉 Over the years my collection grew from 2 shelves in the LR, to a small book case, to large bookshelves in a big house, then shrank back down to it's current book case in my bedroom. LOL each time the whole collection got moved to its new home all together.
FindYourSovereignty Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 @Misterei, I also want all my decks and books together and I want them visible for easy access. 😊 I have found that DVD shelves beautifully display almost all of my decks except those in oversized boxes. They require a bookshelf.

Now that I've got quite a few more ...around 35 ...it would make sense to at least get a cabinet for them. I'm working on it. I have them organised so I can find them easily, but I'd love to have them in a separate place. A project for the dark days coming...dark, as in not much sun!

No. Because i live in the Land of Fog where the Sun is but a distant memory. And it's not seasonal either. This SHOULD be the warm sunny time of year. Yet it's dismal, damp. Trying to work up the motivation to go outside and trim a lime tree. My yard projects are all suffering from severe Lack of Motivation. I'm inside next to the gas fireplace with a cat.
EmarieWithADHD Posted October 12, 2024 Posted October 12, 2024 This is a fun thread so I wanted to comment, even though it’s a bit old. So, just from walking into my living room, yes I suppose a person would know immediately that I’m into tarot. I also have some crystals and a bunch of Halloween decor/art everywhere so if they didn’t know about my tarot passion, they’d certainly know I’m a little quirky 😆 1. I have one the Sun and one the Moon poster on my bathroom wall 2. In the living room on the coffee table is a moon phase tarot stand/display with my card of that day displayed for contemplation/meditation 3. In my bedroom just to the left is where it really gets new-agey lol i.e moon phase pillowcases, two altars, tarot books on the bookcase etc

At least you have a gas fireplace--and a cat... (My last cat passed almost a year ago and at my age I won't get another.) I'll see your lack of motivation and raise you one.

Last several winters I froze every moment I wasn't parked next to the gas fireplace which only warms the front room. The Sun finally came, albeit late in the month which isn't normal. Now is when it should be starting to rain but it's sunny 🙄 The cats affect my motivation, tho. They both sit on me and I can't get up. They keep me pinned down and get angry when I move. Of coourse this is off topic, so I will say now that the Tarots are out of the front room -- where they had a temporary home due to the heater install -- no one would know about the tarots unless they enter my bedroom which obviously is only people I know well. Sorry to hear about your cat passing. I wonder about that. If I will get another when these 2 go. Probably. We have too much of a rat problem to NOT have a cat. But I *do* worry if I get a cat and then die before the cat. It seems cruel to leave an animal that way unless you know who would adopt it.
Scandinavianhermit Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 Quote So, when someone enters your home, would they know from just looking around that you are a tarot reader or collector? Nope. My decks are in boxes, drawers or a bookshelf not facing the entrance of my living room. If they enter my kitchen, they will guess, that I listen to late 1970s punk and ska. At a glance at my living room it will be obvious, that I'm into arts and humanities, particularly the history of philosophy, religion and art. I suppose your average Swede doesn't have the Upanishads, the Quran, the Lotus sutra, Sefer Yetzirah, the Revised English Bible with apocrypha, two siddurim, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Poetical Edda, Daodejing, Layton's Gnostic Scriptures, Copenhaver's Hermetica, Hutton's Stations of the Sun and a handbook about William Morris side by side in full view (with Herodotus, Ovid, Jordanes and Saxo glancing threateningly from another shelf), so visitors will immediately understand that I'm quaint, just not how quaint I am. A few shelf-metres with French and German hermeneutic philosophers and phenomenologists probably doesn't help. The alchemical, astrological and druidical stuff aren't facing the main part of the living room. My friends are very tolerant people. They have patience with me, warts and all.

That's the main reason I always told hubby why the cats we had would be my last ones. But now there's also the reduced number of people I could call upon to cat-sit when I go away. And once I get this place back into shape I want to start having guests again, and many of hubby's family members are allergic to cats. But I'm glad you got your heaters. Did you get all your decks back onto their proper shelves yet? I do like the way you've arranged them, but I have too many to use your method.

I do like the way you've arranged them, but I have too many to use your method. Just in time, too. The weather turned COLD just now. The decks are in their proper shelves but I've not re-done my display. It's a conundrum. Storing them upright can lead to warping over time, so I've left them flat for now. But it's driving me crazy b/c it doesn't look pretty. I love having them on upright on display. Ideal would be to rotate flat with upright to make a pretty display but give decks a rest on the flat so they're not upright 100% of the time. So far I've not seen how to make this attractive and organized, tho. Hmm.
Morwenna Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 I didn't know about warping while standing on end. Most of mine are on end in their chests.

I learned that the hard way. I used to display my decks in a cabinet and they were all standing on end. Then one day I was fetching a deck and noticed that it looked very warped, so I quickly grabbed more decks and inspected them. It was only certain decks that warped, so cardstock definitely matters here. My thickest tdM decks were fine, but many of the other decks warped. I have one deck in particular that is so warped that it is very hard to shuffle, and it doesn’t matter how much I’ve tried to riffle shuffle it the other direction to ‘bend it back’, it is beyond fixing 😔

If I have company and want to show off the collection, I will do the proper display. But for now I rotate some decks to lay flat and some to stand upright. More labor intensive since I have to change the display if a guest will see it -- but I don't want my expensive decks to warp!
Morwenna Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 Maybe I won't have any problems (I haven't noticed any yet) because the decks are not free-standing but packed together. I suspect they're holding each other steady. They're on end so I can see all the names on the lids, and not have to dig.

I don't worry about the decks that fit tightly in their boxes, especially if the box is sturdy. These get support. But other decks are loose in the box and these are the ones I rotate to flat. If they aren't tight in the box they don't get any support.
Mirror Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 I like this question! Anyone coming into my home would see crystals and a little stone with a Bind Rune (protection in and of the home) on the hallway bookcase. The majority of my decks and books are at the back of the house in the study, so not somewhere a guest would normally go, but they'd maybe spy a few decks that are always to hand in the living room. Right now there's a mini Morgan Greer tarot in a tin, a Lenormand deck and pack of playing cards....plus a pendulum, so a visitor may or may not put it all together 🧙♀️
Christina Posted January 11 Posted January 11 I know this is an old topic but I wanted to answer anyway 😁 People might know when they walk in. I have my altar inside my curio cabinet and my TV stand houses all my books and a few decks. I've never had anyone ask, but then, I don't get many visitors either 😋
Elaina Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Another that is an old topic answered. My MIL is super religious and I don't keep any out in my home. Which is funny since my 13 year old steals my gummy bear tarot and carries it with her more often than not. I keep a deck with the meanings on them my Hoosier cabinet, but it's behind a door where I keep booze (and I don't drink which is funnier since it's mostly wine I do cook with, but MIL doesn't approve of that either). I sew for a living and have decks in my workshop, while not exactly hidden, they are over by my 8 foot table and right now are under some work. And I do make bags for them in cloth and leather, so it's not exactly a secret I have decks and I'm not sure what they think they are outside of craft shows. No one is allowed near the workstations and I am not taking my cards to the fitting area since I have a coffee bar there. Most people don't go in that direction with me anyway. You come over and my goat dog is usually loose and following me (and has a pen by one of the work doors since she isn't allowed in) or my mule, horses or donkey are being messed with. Rural city girl does not bring up tarot reader, haha.

My son used to 'ride' it when he was little. My horses are just hitting 2 years old. My horse will on April 8th. Right now we're getting them saddle trained and used to loading on a trailer on top of the rest of the general work. My mule is a mini, was abused and it has taken me 3 years to pet her consistently. Ironically, I have always been afraid of equines and she is a kicker and a biter. She decided she was mine so all her training is slow; getting a harness on is a chore but she prances beautifully when I get one on, and she is being worked for carts and gardening, same as the donkey. The donkey is the most mellow, sweet boy who gets along with the horses and is also being trained for pack which he is not happy about it at all. He was 16 months old and the guy who gave him to us was scared and he was never touched until we got him, so he is both very affectionate and very standoffish. While he is a big boy, he is still a standard and both him and the mule are too small to ride unless you are a small child. So yes and no. The horses are being broke, but have a year to go. The mule and donkey are 5 and 3, and old enough to do their roles but don't do well unless they are with the horses.

And I thought my cats were fun. 🐴 I love horses. Mules are really interesting too. When I lived in Iowa there was a mule ranch a few counties over, I loved driving by the place!
xTheHermitx Posted March 22 Posted March 22 noob adding to old thread!!! you would not see any of my occult stuff out in the house b/c we don't have room for me to leave that stuff out. None of it bothers my wife, but right now, I don't really have any place in the house to call my own. (We have 2 full houses worth of stuff crammed into a small townhouse...) my plan this spring is to clear out one of the bedrooms upstairs to turn into an office for my occult stuff, sports card collection and all of my Dungeons and Dragons stuff....
