Royalalbatross Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 In tarot books or videos online, I have yet to see a single person who uses the Hindu shuffle method. Although it takes a while to randomize the cards this way (similar to overhand, or slightly faster) it is very gentle on the cards, and you get a good feel for the cards this way (and i think it looks better than overhand). If you look it up on YouTube you can see it done better than I can explain it. I highly recommend it. I have big hands tough, maybe it is not so easy for people with small hands. What is your favorite method of shuffling?
ashjey Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 I use the Hindu shuffling and riffle shuffling when I am using a deck of regular playing cards. For tarot cards, I shuffle with an adjusted version of the overhand shuffle. I don't riffle shuffle tarot cards (most of the time I can't anyway, because the deck is too big for my hands) I have very small hands, so I struggle with most (all) shuffling methods, and more when the deck is large(78 cards in tarot decks vs 56 in playing cards, and tarot deck cards are often bigger as well). tldr: small hands are a struggle when it comes to anything involving cards.
djellyfish Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 I had never heard of the Hindu shuffle, so I just went and looked it up on youtube. I think I'll be trying it. It does look like it would be very gentle on the cards. Thank you for posting this! 😀
Venus Rising Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 thanks @Royalalbatross for sharing this technique. I checked it out on Youtube and it looks really nice. I am definitely going to give it a try and see how it works for me, since I am a rather poor shuffler haha 😄
Stars Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 Never heard of that term lol but i use a variation of the hindu shuffle i guess..i think because i used to use the "las vegan style shuffle" and someone once told me i was a poor shuffler so i changed it...rude but happy i did because now i don't bend up my cards by shuffling and i get alot more fliers (the ones that pop out of the deck) which i love because i trust those cards the most for some good info 😉
Royalalbatross Posted July 26, 2019 Author Posted July 26, 2019 Glad that it is useful! BTW I recommend slanting the hand receiving the cards slightly downwards, so that the cards come to rest on the index finger. The strip shuffle (on the table) is very similar, but I find the Hindu shuffle easier.
Venus Rising Posted July 27, 2019 Posted July 27, 2019 Good tip, thanks @Royalalbatross Going to practice it this weekend 😄
Royalalbatross Posted April 28, 2020 Author Posted April 28, 2020 (edited) Another nice and gentle way to shuffle is one I have never seen a name for: I start with the deck in my left hand, push a bunch of cards into my right with my thumb, and then push the next bunch from my left on top of the first, the next under, then over, under ect. etc. When all the cards are in your right hand, tidy the pack a bit as you put it in your left and repeat :) I'm just curious, has anyone seen a name or term for this shuffling technique? EvylynRose Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Oh my goodness, I think you just solved my "how the heck am I supposed to shuffle this overly thick deck?" dilemma! 😅 (Another tiny-handed one here...) Thank you for sharing!
