EmpyreanKnight Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 I've read that beginner Lenormands should be as uncluttered as possible, else it will distract you from the larger readings, especially the Grand Tableau. Anyway, I have Pixie's Astounding Lenormand, and it fits that bill perfectly. It also aesthetically complements the Centennial Tarot, so if you also have and love that deck, purchasing this is almost a must.
DownUnderNZer Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 The Blue Owl is excellent and the one with card inserts not poems. Most Piatnik decks are good to work with if you do not mind simple. Not all Vintage or Antique decks check all the boxes, so now I understand why the BLUE OWL has stayed around so long. Do not get any with verses or poems. The Gilded Reverie is great to read with ONLY there is one or two cards that are not the same as most Lenormand decks. Like Card No 22. Go for: 1) Simple images or images that stand out. 2) Bold numbers or key words. 3) Nothing with distractions. 4) Cards that you do not have to turn side ways or upside down to work out what the image is as that will waste time and cause confusion and/or frustration. DND :)
DanielJUK Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 yes the blue owl is great! my beginner deck was Titania's Fortune Cards, it's the most basic pictures I have ever found and it's the symbol either coloured or strangely polarised reversed. There is pics on here. I eventually outgrew it but it was a luxury gift box to start with. The book with it is quite good but later on I found I disagreed with some of her takes of the cards but it was a learning process. I don't think there is any deck more minimalist ;D I bought the deck after seeing people read with it on AT before there was as many decks available as now. This depends on the person obviously, for me I need good pictures to read and I struggled with a stylised Lenormand I bought in my early days which was themed but not so decorated, also some cards have a lot added to them with text and symbols, avoid the inserts on a first deck I think.
Page of Ghosts Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 I'm waiting for my German edition Blue Owl called Blaue Eule (there is a red German edition which has the poems but this one should be the playing card inserts) which was easier to find on bookdepository. I already own the Dreaming Way Lenormand and while it's a pretty deck with nice art it's also very whimsical so I think a classic deck like the Blue Owl should be a bit better and less distracting for me. Weird art gets me into tarot mode and I'm trying to avoid that. Will let you know how I feel about the Blaue Eule when I get it, which hopefully is soon!
PageOfCups Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 The Enchanted Lenormand Oracle (from Watkins Publishing) comes with an excellent book! And also the Dreaming Way Lenormand. <3

Just saw this post and I forgot all about writing a bit about the Blue Owl! I really like this deck and although my Lenormand studies haven't progressed in a while I'm happy to have it. The pictures are very simple so not a lot of confusion and I like the art style. The Blaue Eule Lenormand is indeed the one with the card inserts and even with the LWB in German I make it work with a website, even though I dream about a book at some point. I just like books more :)
Selene Posted April 22, 2018 Posted April 22, 2018 I personally use and recommend the Mlle Lenormand Deck by Piatnik. The images are very simple to read and I think for beginners it’s the best deck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
reall Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 just to add these for future reference; Modern 2in1 Chakra Lenormand Oracle Meditation & Spell 54 card deck with free pdf guidebook & classic Ancient Lenormand both find on my web https://sites.google.com/view/myluckycard/home
EmpyreanKnight Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 If the Blue Owl looks too staid and small, there's the huge Golden Lenormand Oracle that has so much bling it only lacks shades. 8) It might be too much for some but I love it to bits. <3
Tom Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 I have purchased two Lenormand Decks so far. Grand Tableau and Old Style Lenormand. I just exploring Lenormand. I have started to read The Complete Lenormand Oracle Handbook by Caitlin Matthews. It's been very good book so far and I seem in tune to the intuitive means of the cards already. She insists that one should read with one with the play card inserts. I am not very attracted to the artwork of either of these decks, I've seen many with beautiful artwork, but they don't have playing card inserts. As a beginner do I need to start with the ones with the playing cards depicted? Or is it too difficulty without the inserts? What do you think? Any advice? I am trying to learn another oracle deck right now, so I'm not ready to full steam ahead with Lenormand yet.
coinilius Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 My first Lenormand deck was the Ur-Lenormand Game of Hope deck - the deck is a nice size, with clean and uncluttered images.
Tom Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 I have a copy of that deck and I like it. It seems more from than the Lenormand though. It counts with a small paperback on the cards and their definitions, how to do readings, etc. Yes it's very attractive.
DanielJUK Posted November 19, 2023 Posted November 19, 2023 I personally didn't learn with playing card inserts and don't really like them still today. Why not focus on learning the techniques to use them, the meaning (keywords) of each card and practising combinations?

I'm the opposite, I don't really like Lenormand decks without the inserts - something seems missing when they don't have them. But I also don't like it when they just have a small suit symbol and number/letter as well. Give me a proper insert any day! I don't actually use them much when trying to read the cards, though, but I love the aesthetic appearance of them. I don't have any decks with verses on them - the verses usually seem pretty banal - but I actually do want to pick up at least one to own, just for the collectable side of it.
joy Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 I am so far only using the Inserts to see which suits is most prominent. But that is it for now. Still not there to do more with the inserts and not sure if I ever will.
Tom Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 @DanielJUK Good advice. I'm going to start that way anyhow.
