katrinka Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 (edited) After a LOT of procrastination and self-de-enabling, I finally had a Greenwood printed up. (The images @Raggydoll posted were what finally did it. Poker sized with a linen finish is perfect!) Anyway, the Blasted Oak image strongly reminded me of William Blake, so I pulled up some of his images to see if I could match it. And lo and behold, there's The Dance of Albion. Look at this: The Blasted Oak seems to be an almost mirror image of the lady in The Reunion of the Soul and the Body: I haven't had time to reflect on any of this, and so can't claim that there's any intended added meanings. Chesca may simply have been using Blake's work for model references. The guy certainly had a fine grasp of anatomy and composition. Have you guys noticed any others? Mi-Shell Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 Chesca really likes Blake and his art and was inspired by it. Years ago in the old AT study threads we discussed this at length. Bat Chicken did a whole comparison study with both decks. The thread should be in the study group.
katrinka Posted September 28, 2019 Author Posted September 28, 2019 Yes, she mentions him in the handbook at the archives! Is this the thread? http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=132233 The Blasted Oak resembles XII Reversal even more closely than The Reunion of the Soul and the Body. That must be the image she took it from. But I can't find corresponding art by Blake that matches it precisely. (I'm not saying it doesn't exist, just that I haven't found it.) I understand the Blake Tarot is a redrawing...I may need it for this. I hope Buryn is still filling orders. Thank you! What a lovely labyrinth to fall into...
