Tarot Cards, What do They Symbolise for You?

Since the first time I got in touch with the tarot cards, I understood (kinda) the extrapolation between the figures and chapters in life, but also had the tendency of associating the figures with real persons I met in real life, don't know exactly why I did that. For example, I thought of death as someone that killed a friend of mine from the old neighbourhood accidentally in a car accident, the devil as a former boss who tried to scam me etc..

Do you also have a similar way of thinking? Or do you think of something completely different when you see the cards?

Hi @Jimkost and welcome to TT&M.  This is a fascinating question that will receive more attention in another section.  I'm going to ask the moderators to move it and I'm guessing it will end up in Tarot Talk  & Technique.

Hi @Jimkost and welcome to TT&M.

Like @Grandma kindly mentioned, your thread was posted in the wrong section. I moved it to Tarot Talk & Technique for you.

For me, I see different things in the cards from reading to reading. Let's say that I drew the 3 of Swords in two different readings. In the first reading it might mean that it was raining that day and I experienced a higher level of physical pain from the damp weather affecting the arthritis in my back and hips. And in the next reading it might refer to emotional pain resurfacing from past hurts. Although both examples are of 'pain', they are different kinds of pain - one physical and the other emotional.

The longer you use them, the more layers of associations they acquire. (Some of the images actually look like people I've known, but I don't find this productive for reading. The Knight of Cups in the Grimaud TdM is the spitting image of an old friend (now deceased) but he wasn't a Cups type at all. More like Batons. It wasn't him, it just looked like him. 😉)

Seeing Death and the Devil the way you do does fit the card meanings, so it's something to take into account. It's a pretty good mnemonic. Just don't let it narrow your meanings to those ideas only. They're not necessarily people at all. Death can be literally any kind of ending. The Devil especially has a lot of possible interpretations, like restrictions, scapegoats, outcasts, addiction, science (how many great thinkers were persecuted by the church?) Sometimes it's actually positive (especially in the Thoth), in a refusing-to-bow-down kind of way.

I have found that the cards meanings come up in situations as I go through my day...like I will have something happen and think "wow, that was very influenced byThe Lovers" or that scene reminds me of the Moon card...

I am also this ay with the Runes as I have worked with those for 30+ years. Worked with Tarot for about 25. It took me a while to see those happening in this fashion, but I love it now. I feel like the cards, and runes, are really speaking to me...

Quite frankly, I have found the cards to be my good friend.

They tell me what I need to hear, or show me what I need to hear to put it differently. You see, I trust each spread I lay down. No matter what the cards show. I have learned through experience to accept what each spread shows and to go with how I feel. Whether its a great spread, or a spread that shows a hard truth.

And as difficult as it may be to tell sitters what I see, that also has to e done when a lets say, not-so-good-spread comes up for them. Ive had a few like that.
