Eugenie Posted January 7, 2024 Posted January 7, 2024 No luck with that Russian deck, the quality of print was horrendous. Eh well. Not even a fake, just normal Soviet quality.

Not even a fake, just normal Soviet quality. That is too bad. Today as I was looking through the british museum, I found two antique russian decks that I thought you might be interested in. I will link them here: https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/P_1904-0511-40-1-52 https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/P_1896-0501-810 And this is what came up when I searched their russian category. Its not much but maybe you will find something of interest: https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/search?keyword=playing-card&school_style=Russian&view=grid&sort=object_name__asc&page=1

Eugenie Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 @Raggydoll, @akiva, thank you very much for helping me find a deck! I will give this issue a bit of rest for now, two decks are coming in the post, anyway, so no need to order more. I was mostly looking at the Russian decks because there are plenty of then knocking around since the time we were part of the Soviet Union, and they are very cheap. Otherwise, I am a bit bored with them. It is interesting, however, that Soviet decks were inherited from the pre-Revolution times and didn't reflect Communist culture at all. All of the decks I have used are from the old Russia, 19th century.
Eugenie Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 This is just to marvel: a beautiful linoprinted deck from Etsy.
Laura Borealis Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 Oh, that's beautiful. Thank you for sharing it!

Morwenna Posted January 10, 2025 Posted January 10, 2025 So many gorgeous decks. I still don't know how to load pictures. I do have some of the ones pictured here though: most of the Stargazer series, the Celtic myth one, a couple French decks. But it's still hard to pick favorites.

My aunt had used Öberg's deck in the past, but switched to Piatnik's when that became available, while an elderly lady in the village stuck to Öberg's. The World of Playing Cards shows a printing of Piatnik's Swedish Pattern deck from 1997, but I know for sure, that it existed already in the early 1980s, perhaps earlier: https://www.wopc.co.uk/sweden/standard-swedish-pattern
