Ferrea Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Here is an oracle deck I would fancy—if it weren’t 75 € with shipping, plus likely an additional import/customs fee. I hope it becomes very popular and they mass-market it in the future. Because the creator has everything it takes to make a great deck: passion, authenticity, and a skilled illustrator by her side. Even though I'm usually not into dark and macabre themes, I'm drawn to this deck. The Stormcloud Oracle by Clare Gregory
FindYourSovereignty Posted April 8 Author Posted April 8 Another deck I would love to hear thoughts and opinions on. Thank you! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/astromagicianstarot/the-astro-magicians-tarot?ref=discovery_newest&term=Tarot&total_hits=6218&category_id=34
Rose Lalonde Posted April 8 Posted April 8 (edited) @FindYourSovereignty, I looked at that one too. Clearly thought and love went into it, and I admire original art. I don't read as well with decks in that flowing art style (and did the artist use a lot of the blur tool on some backgrounds?) so I'm out, but I do like the intent behind it with the four processes shown from start to finish. Some of the individual cards didn't give the meaning for me. The 4 and 7 of Cups look almost identical. The 5 of cups with the bottom of the 3C at top, then 5 sealed jugs, then the top of the 8C at the bottom... the 5 sealed jugs themselves don't say much about this card, unless their darker color means something? Maybe that's it. I feel like some cards lose a strong sense of their individual meaning in this artist's pursuit of the big picture. (But you already know the individual card meanings well, so maybe you'd enjoy this different way of putting it all together.) Edited April 9 by Rose Lalonde

I want it to work because I admire the original art at large, but I, too, am struggling with some of the cards not fitting very well. Some of the Majors have an astrology connection, like The Chariot, but the rest of the image feels lacking. I don't get The Star or The World cards either. I am sure there are more. I have some decks with the flowing art style and don't use them very often. I find when the guidebook explains the artist's choices I can usually work with it, but they don't always do that and this one may just have too many stretches to make. Thank you again.
gregory Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Many of the cards seem to have the wrong titles. Death. Devil, etc. (as in I REALLY think she has them wrong.,) Not one for me - a shame as for once it doesn't involve the crippling postage from the USA !

It feels like the effort to fit the Tree of Life made several of the cards off. The lack of backers appear to support these concerns.

I've let some decks go that I wish I had not and backed way too many that were not good choices. Thank you! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cocorrina/renais-tarot-a-15th-century-masterpiece-reborn I actually ended up backing this one, I went to the tarot exhibition at the Warburg Institute and fell head over heels with the depictions they had on display there. I’ve no idea how I’ll use them yet but I’ll figure it out, I have a bad habit of art first, purpose later!

Sadly, I've done this way too often and have piles of decks with stunning art, but miserable readers - like I am forcing them to make some kind of sense. 9 minutes ago, KiMo said: have a bad habit of art first, purpose later! Me, too! I convince myself that they are little pieces of art. At this rate, my gallery is huge! Edit to add: it must have been incredible to see her art in person. Nemia Posted April 9 Posted April 9 The Renais deck is very beautiful. The Mantegna Tarot by Lo Scarabeo might be a cheaper alternative. What looks dark in the pictures is actually silver. It's a re-interpretation and less elegant than the Renais, but it's based on the same drawings. I like Atanassov's decks (Botticelli, Klimt, Mantegna, Golden Tarot of the Tsar).

Why do people feel compelled to sell these things as borked decks instead of art prints, I wonder?

DanielJUK Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Sara Kathleen has launched a new Kickstarter for her latest deck She created Everybody's Tarot in the past - https://www.thetarotforum.com/forums/topic/13409-everybodys-tarot/ The children's book simplistic illustration style with a lot of monsters, reads really well in my readings. I love her designs. Her new deck is a tarot for grieving, she has had loss in the last few years https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sarakathleenuk/a-grieving-tarot I just like there isn't much on the tarot market like this! Deadline is the 15th May, it's been going for 2 days and is already funded at double it's goal

There's a version that's just the original line drawings on large cards (3.5'' x 5.75'' (89mm x 146mm)) on MakePlayingCards.com. https://www.makeplayingcards.com/sell/marketplace/tarot-mantegna.html?srsltid=AfmBOorrz8-d-fl8OVbxq0kpjwMIvYK03Zxn5hPk3QdhwgfXmKzg9-bF I ordered it as a print-on-demand (not from the "Shop").

KiMo Posted April 24 Posted April 24 For anyone still curious about the Astro Magician's Tarot, I happened across an interview with the artist Amelia Passer on the Glitch Bottle YouTube channel. She explains her process and where she's coming from, for those who may be interested. Hopefully a link to YT is allowed -
KiMo Posted May 7 Posted May 7 I've been following the creation of this deck for a while now and it has finally gotten to the pre-launch stage on Kickstarter. It's a majors only deck I believe, but the artwork is astounding and I'll definitely be backing it once it goes live. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/camenatarot/the-camena-tarot-by-lou-benesch-and-laetitia-barbier

katrinka Posted May 17 Posted May 17 I need yet another deck like that like I need a hole in the head, and I need to watch my spending. But it's all done by hand, none of that nasty AI. I like what the artist has to say. She seems sincere. That's reason enough to support this. I clicked 'Remind me' for now.
Laura Borealis Posted May 17 Posted May 17 It's so elegant. Incredibly impressive art. It's almost funded, too. I'm wavering, I really don't need more decks, and have one that fits that niche already. But it's so beautiful.

Not sure about how it'll make it's way to the US and how much more the tariff will raise the price, UGH...

A lot of etsy sellers are using forwarding services. I got a couple of irresistable little jade pieces from Hong Kong. Two different sellers but they both used a forwarding service, which simply means that the item is sent to a sane country and forwarded to the US. I only paid $3.99 shipping for one, and I qualified for free shipping on the other. One took precisely 1 week to land in my hot little hands (the free shipping one, shipping would have been $9.00 if I'd had to pay) and the other took a week and a day. The tracking shows progress all the way from Hong Kong so I'm guessing forwarding is something the carriers offer now? It's apparently legal, the sellers are very open about it. Hopefully these deck creators will find a way to use a forwarding service. Why not contact her and ask? Edited May 17 by katrinka
katrinka Posted May 18 Posted May 18 This looks AMAZING. Ukrainian folklore and witchcraft. And the art is <chef's kiss> https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/116598630/ukrainian-night-tarot-by-old-gods-temple
