I jumped on board a few of the forums that emerged back when Aeclectic went down, including this one, but ended up drifting away before any of them fully got settled, and apparently never became active here. I finally decided to check in and see how things were going, and I'm happy to see the community that developed here!

So hello everyone! I started working with tarot around 7 years ago, and my favorite deck is probably the Cosmos Tarot & Oracle, although the Numinous is also on heavy rotation, and I like staring at gorgeous decks online even if I'll never be able to collect them all. 😁

Recently I've been working on designing a rainforest oracle deck with a focus on how the various animals/plants interact as an ecosystem. Currently it's just a passion project (I'm doing collages with vintage illustrations, but I'm not confident enough in my skills to make it a commercial endeavor) but it's a fun and challenging process, and I'd love to have a place to talk about it. I saw a Deck Creations subforum under Tarot Decks but not Oracles - would that still be the right place for it, or would I be better off in the general oracle decks area? I was originally thinking of it as a tarot project, but the cards took me in a different direction.

glad you are back with us again @jdusk 🙂:animated-smileys-signs-085: can't wait for your rainforest oracle, there is nothing like that really out there right now! There is more discussion in the tarot decks section about creation but I think it's up to the moderators what they think about it. Take it slowly but keep us updated on it and a lot of people publish themselves now, I buy so many self-published decks now on crowd funding sites and etsy!

Welcome @jdusk  It's great that you are ready to become involved and contribute to this lovely forum.

I was interested to see that your favorite deck is the Cosmos Tarot and oracle deck.  I am curious to know how you learned to work with it.  I find that it ventures quite far from traditional associations for Rider Waite clones.  I do sometimes use it, but not without referring to the LWB.  How do you use it?  Thanks, Juna Berry

Hi and welcome to TT&M @jdusk! It's very cool that you're creating your own deck! 🙂

I double checked to make sure that I directed you to the right sub-forum to discuss your deck. You're welcome to start a thread for your deck in Deck Creations, if you'd like. 😊

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

@LoveLightPeace Thank you, I'll be sure to drop in and start one!

@DanielJUK Thank you for the encouragement! I've definitely been taking my time, the research alone was a long process - but I've started playtesting (just index cards with titles + keywords) and the results have been really encouraging. 😄

@Natural Mystic Guide With the Cosmos deck I find the meanings often land partway between the traditional RWS and the constellations portrayed on the cards. I actually started a study group for it back on Aeclectic, and unfortunately we didn't get very far before the forum closed, but our analysis for the first six cards is still archived: https://tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=275774

So I find the links to the traditional cards are still present, but it can take some digging! I did spend a lot of time with the LWB until I got the hang of these cards, but I find just doing a visual analysis of each card can yield some excellent results. They tend to be very deep with symbolism, and the mythological links between many of them adds another layer to the readings. If, for example, you're doing a reading on a relationship and the character in card A was betrayed by the character in card B, there's a red flag - I often find those connections will emerge and reinforce what the rest of the spread is trying to tell me.

Of course, there's no wrong way to go about it! I know some people basically use the whole thing like an oracle, ignoring the RWS aspect, or do purely intuitive readings. My brain likes to dig deep into symbolism and connections, and the Cosmos inspires that part of my brain, so I go along with it and get some very accurate readings that way.

This is great!  Big Thank you, jdusk.  I am delighted to meet someone who has put the time and energy into penetrating deck.  Now that I know there is a lot more depth to it, I shall play with it more.  Any thoughts of starting another study group?  I would enjoy that!

@Natural Mystic Guide At the moment I'm not up for launching into quite such an intensive study project again, but if there's interest I could certainly drop in and add my two cents!

@geoxena Thank you for the reminder/invitation! My current project is using up a lot of my creative brain space, but I'll give it some thought and see if inspiration strikes for any of the cards that are still unclaimed. 🙂
