Jungian Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 (edited) In general terms, the Justice card is the card of causality; you will get what you give! It signifies decisions made for or against you, decisions that are however fair and just. From my personal experience, the Justice has been always good! I remember back in 2017, when Justice appeared as the general theme of the year. It was the year where I saw significant improvements in my life, in love (marriage), career (fa good job), finances (minor improvements) and friends (new friends and very happy times). Especially during the months where the Justice was accompanied by the Judgment and the Wheel of Fortune cards. Back on 2018, when the Justice appeared, I was literally saved from losing my job. Right on the very last moment it was announced to me that despite layoffs, which were about to affect me heavily, there was a little bit of work for me. These are just my personal experiences with the Justice, which many people fear. All positive so far! I would like to know your takes on the card... Edited February 2, 2020 by Jungian
and_it_spoke Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 So far, I've been inclined to interpret Justice as a positive card with one caveat: You might not be 100% happy with the results. I do this because when people are passionate regarding a specific subject, they can see any gain for the 'other' side as an injustice. Or if everything does not go their way, that it is an injustice. So read the card, and explain the card, as a balance form of justice. They may not be thrilled with every aspect of a just resolution, but they should bear in mind that justice is (typically) a larger concept that may transcend their immediate concerns - thus its place in the Major Arcana.
Sunny Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 I have read it as feelings before, they mean that the feelings are neutral, not good neither bad.
katrinka Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 In the GD based decks, she's objective and honest. But look at her in the TdM! See how she cheats, tipping the scales ever so slightly with her leg? I like to read the card on the scale side as what's favored, and the card on the sword side as what isn't.
LoveLightPeace Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 I have had Justice show up in a reading when I feel like I need to justify my actions, or for something that I may have said, and even for a purchase that I made. Justice has also shown up when I haven't been fair to myself in a few situations and the imbalance needed to be sorted out to set things right.
ThePerceptivePsychic Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 I personally have always liked him/Justice. When he pops up, pending matters that have been up in the air for god knows how long {in my readings it's usually a ridiculously extensive period of time} are getting resolved once and for all, and that's it. There's no turning back, no do-overs, and you better believe he is NOT changing his mind. It's final. He may appear a tad intimidating to others at first glance because of how serious/stern he is about the decision he's made, but that's only because he's over the BS. Regardless of what the final outcome he's chosen, you {or the individual in question} is GOING to pay in some form or fashion. Even if you're the victor in the situation, there's going to be some sort of hard lesson learned. If it was easy-peasy, he would've never had to get involved in the FIRST place. So whether you do it voluntarily or he forces you to do so, responsibility and accountability will be taken for actions made -- karmic retribution.
Jungian Posted February 11, 2020 Author Posted February 11, 2020 Thanks everyone. I kinda agree with most interpretations. However, unlike the conventional interpretation, I have a positive view on the Justice card. Most people would agree that the Justice card is cold and sometimes harsh. Of course it is, if it is followed by 'negative' cards. But for me it has a positive outlook. Unlike the Fool, which symbolises fresh starts, in my view it is associated with immaturity and inability to decide objectively. But again, each card may resonates are personal takes.
geoxena Posted February 11, 2020 Posted February 11, 2020 When I see the Justice card, I think "equilibrium."
ganonso Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 Justice for me is about being weighted and balanced. There are circumstances where it can be harsh, because it can be an invitation to weight and cut elements of your life. Yet it is always fair and doesn't force you to anything, just be prepared to the consequences if you refuse to consider your situation. In a way it is like these Greek cups: The ones which, if you fill them too much, spill the drink to the ground. It advises measure in all thing.
DanielJUK Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 If you think of Justice in a legal setting, I have friends who have had positive experiences of Justice and friends who feel injustice. For example about 10 years ago, a family friend sadly had her son murdered, the people who did it got the max sentence possible, she really got the best legal outcome she could have got, even if she still feels awful emotions about her son. I was so scared the perpetrators would get 5 years or something minimal like that. Then another friend went through a divorce and feels the legal process was very unfair to him. Another friend is trying to get out an abusive relationship and the Courts keep backing her husband. These are all Justice but it's outside of us, like something out of our control. We rely on a decision that is fair, unemotional and impartial based on the evidence at hand, sometime it goes our way and sometime it doesn't. I don't see Justice as positive or negative, it can be either but it's fair and true, it's literally impartial of being good or bad. When people have had a horrible time in life and get Justice for their next phase of life, it can be good times and positive after the bad. But if someone has been living a wonderful life but not thought about the consequences, Justice is going to catch you out! If you have been spending a lot of money and enjoying the high life but didn't pay tax on it, Justice will come back at you with the consequences. There is a karmic beyond our control type feel to the card, we cannot control the outcomes of it but try to be balanced, true and fair. Someone might be annoyed that Justice didn't give them the divorce they wanted, they feel hard done by. But years later they might realise their ex partner always paid the mortgage of their mutual place or something like that, it is fair and just even if do not always agree with it. In RWS, the scales represent balance and the double edged sword represents impartiality, it can swing both ways. If you play by the rules you can get a positive outcome.

I totally agree with this and it reminds me of one of my favorite quotes (from the book Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton): "The Judge does not make the Law. It is the People that make the Law. Therefore if a Law is unjust, and if the Judge judges according to the Law, that is justice, even if it is not just. It is the duty of a Judge to do justice, but it is only the People that can be just. Therefore if justice be not just, that is not to be laid at the door of the Judge, but at the door of the People, which means at the door of the White People, for it is the White People that make the Law." When I think of it this way and consider the way that I normally use tarot (as an introspective tool for growth), the Justice card challenges me to make sure that I am being just. Justice will happen one way or the other and is outside of my control. I only have control over my actions, so I should choose to be just.

DanielJUK Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 (edited) @2curious I think if I remember Cry, the Beloved Country is about the oppression of Black people in South Africa in history. thanks for the quote @Endy I must read it sometime, glad I reminded you of it ❤️ Edited February 19, 2020 by DanielJUK
Endy Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 Thanks for explaining that @DanielJUK! You got to it before I did 🙂 @2curious I probably should have explained that about the quote when I mentioned the book. I agree that out of context that part of the quote really stands out!!!
xTheHermitx Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 cool to see peoples interpretations of this card!! for me, Justice is a very comforting card, because it demands that you/ I /the querent has to live in reality. It is a neutral card to me, but also a card of honesty. I feel that it is saying that all actions and reactions will be considered in the end, and while it seems like you can't sway the end result, you can be proactive in a way to steer the end result in a positive way...unless you are too ignorant/aloof/or egotistical to see the trail ahead, then you get what you deserve. I also feel like it is sometimes saying that the end result is going to be what it is going to be, and you have to prepare to deal with it and move on. Every thign we do is going to be weighed, judged, analyzed, and commented on. Nothing goes by unnoticed. "Don't think you can get away with it"

Fair enough. To me, Justice simply says consider both sides of a matter and weigh your decisions carefully. Like the High Priestess, Justice sits between two pillars with a veil obscuring what is behind them. In the HP card, you can see it is water. In the Justice card, it is not known. In short, you do not know/fully understand/haven't taken into consideration both sides of a situation/matter. For those of you who do number reduction, 11 reduces to 2, and 20 reduces to 2. They are all related (Justice - 11, HP - 2 & Judgement - 20).
TekkieTarot Posted February 20, 2020 Posted February 20, 2020 I have been seeing this card lately for people looking at things from a black and white perspective not letting emotions get involved only operating off logic and how the person has acted or behaved towards them. also pettiness I pulled this card today actually when it came to my male friend he never replied to my text so I said ok well he won’t hear from me again unless he reach out to me first. justice can be pretty vengeful as well if you as me lol.
Jungian Posted February 21, 2020 Author Posted February 21, 2020 Thanks everyone for the insightful responses. I could agree more with the following On 2/19/2020 at 4:39 AM, xTheHermitx said: ...while it seems like you can't sway the end result, you can be proactive in a way to steer the end result in a positive way...unless you are too ignorant/aloof/or egotistical to see the trail ahead, then you get what you deserve. From my experience, this is true. The Justice card tells you 'be proactive and you will win. Do nothing and you fall from the cliff like the fool'. This is what I have stated here, in another thread I posted concerning the Justice card This can be also true On 2/17/2020 at 3:05 PM, DanielJUK said: I don't see Justice as positive or negative, it can be either but it's fair and true, it's literally impartial of being good or bad. There is a karmic beyond our control type feel to the card, we cannot control the outcomes of it but try to be balanced, true and fair. But if we see the Justice card as an indicator of the potential, then it acquires a positive outlooke; try and you can win! If you have been unfair towards others then you have the chances to change your attitudes and avoid major disasters. Hence, although the Justice is neutral, it gives a positive feeling. Victory is conditional. It is right at your hands. Unless the Justice has to do with contracts and fixed procedures, where you have no chance to intervene and change the game.
Morgan3 Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 I agree with all of the interpretations given here, but for me it definitely depends on where it appears in the spread and what you're asking. Overall for me it tends to come out in spreads to do with love and romance for some reason, and I often interpret it as meaning that myself or the person I'm reading for needs to consider their actions within that relationship and realise that there are consequences for everything they do.
Jungian Posted March 12, 2020 Author Posted March 12, 2020 Opening up his topic again after a few days of silence, I think that Justice points to karma, as some mentioned. It comes not as a surprise to me that the spread I am trying to interpret shows the justice card for this month and we all know that we somehow we are facing tough karmic times at the moment that affect our lives in an almost inevitable way... whose life, at least whose psychology, has not been affected by the spread of coronavirus? My querent's life has been affected... Good lord, I hope this will end soon...
CarrieB Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 Card of the past. Unclear things from the past. Guilt, regret and self-pity. The seeker himself may feel guilty in a situation. Rage to a past situation. You become a prisoner of your unresolved problem. You think you are the right side of the conflict. What you've done so far brings it's consequences. Carrying your depth. Not always bad.
Merrick Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 To me Justice is a card that advocates for balance, but the kind of balance that you get by taking a shear to the lopsided aspect of the thing. I contrast this with Temperance which I feel advocates for a balance of integration.
dalsegno_ Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 Most of my encounters with Justice have been along the lines of "you reap what you sow". I see her as a true neutral, if I may use the Dungeons and Dragons alignment chart for a reference. It's almost like the fate vs free will argument--Justice is here, reminding us that for some things, the outcome is up to only us and what we choose to do. If we put in little effort, we get little out of it, and vice versa, simple as that.

Yes @Endy that is how i see it also.... justice as the result is not always how we feel just. You have communicated it alot clearer though... in the journey of the spread i have often had the justice card go both negative and positive
