VGimlet Posted February 15, 2020 Author Posted February 15, 2020 Modern Witch again for me - maybe this week I'll have time to do more than look at it's pretty gold and black tin. Heh.
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Ancient Feminine Wisdom Oracle, haven't used it since Jan 2017... the ladies would like a little air I think. Thank you VG!
Bodhiseed Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Ship of Fools Tarot paired with Wisdom of the Four Winds for me this week - thanks for keeping this group buzzing along, VG!🐝
Arania Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Joining in for this week, with the Deva tarot.
53rdspirit Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 I'm going to continue with The Playing Card Oracles. Over the past week, I made it half way through the The Playing Card Oracles book with chapters exploring the stories behind, and the meanings of, each of the 52 cards along with practical exercises. I'm still not spot on every single pip card, yet, but I'll get there --I've got a pretty good grasp of the courts (which is usually the opposite of how I learn card meanings 😄 ). I've managed to journal most days. The second half of the book includes a variety of layouts, card positions, practice readings and a large section on geomancy. That geomancy part gives me reason to pause, but I'm intrigued, so I'll give it a go.
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Still interesting 🙂 When I've read with playing cards I've just used them as tarot minors diamonds=coins hearts=cups spades=swords and clubs=wands, there is none of this in the oracle?
Mi-Shell Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Hi Everyone! VGimlet!💓 This week I will use the Dream Raven Tarot and also a few Sacred Geometry Oracle cards 🙂
VGimlet Posted February 16, 2020 Author Posted February 16, 2020 Welcome to the DOTW thread Arania! We are pretty relaxed here - post as much or as little as you want, pick a new deck or keep using the deck from last week. We don't have any strict rules. 😉
Amberjune Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 Hello all, I am using the Petra K Tarot this week with the Voice of the Trees Oracle. My animal deck for the week is my new Terra Oracle. Happy reading!
Bodhiseed Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 (edited) Welcome to the DoW group, @Arania!🌻 @Amberjune, the PetraK is one of my favorites! Have you seen her website? https://www.petrak.art/tarot-en/ Edited February 16, 2020 by Bodhiseed
Bodhiseed Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 This week I'll be using the Ship of Fools Tarot created by Brian Williams and published by Llewellyn. Paired with it will be the Wisdom of the Four Winds created by Barry Brailsford, illustrated by Cecilie Okada and published by StonePrint Press. Today's draws are the Six of Cups and Pohutukawa: Could a Fool resist an invitation to play? No more than a fish could refuse to be in water. This Six of Cups is a reminder that having fun isn't just for children - adults need to remember how much it can help relieve stress and lighten one's outlook. The two cards in the Cups suit before the Six show burnout and sadness, and although time can help with both, a bit of play can help us remember the joy of living. The Pohutukawa, found on the windswept coasts of New Zealand, is sacred to the Maori people. On Cape Reinga, an ancient tree sits on a rocky outcrop that extends into the sea. The dead are said to move down its roots to make the journey to their ancestral home. "Begin again," the Pohutukawa might tell us when we feel we can't go on. And perhaps a little less seriousness can help us do that. At any moment, you have a choice, that either leads you closer to your spirit or further away from it. ~Thich Nhat Hanh
Arania Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 👍 So,the Deva Tarot is very unusual. There are several decks, with extra cards around, but to my knowledge this is the only one with almost round, kinda look.through-a-keyhole shaped images. It has an extra suit called triax, which is what I stands for spirit or aether. There is also an extra at the end of the majors, called separator. The LWB isn'tmuch of a help in regards to creativeprocess. A book exists,at least in German, but I never got around to getting it. But then, I prefer the intuitive way,in any case. Devas, to me, a non-human spirits with close to god-like abilities in many ways (I'm Buddhist among other things), and the cards' images roundish shape corresponds well for mandala meditation. So, almost perfect on first sight but the square cards with the titles in 3 languages and basically massive grey borders always irritated me. Adding that the original card stock is hard to handle - thick, large, not good for small hands. Hence I printed by own version with just the images on round and smaller cards a while ago, but it didn't work out all that well because cutting round paper is hard. I might redo them in squares again. Still, it's better than trying to shuffle the original. Even when spreading them on a table to shuffle, it was hard to do and not to damage them. But they are much more usable still. For this week's spiritual get-to-know-you-better exercise, I am going with the original stock. I really want to paint copies on glass or foil to use as protection for the house, at least some of them. First card drawn is 9 of swords. What do I make of that? As this deck almost always refers to your deeper self, and I am an intuitive reader and see images move normally and this one does not save a little glittering of the diamond, I take it to mean that I am stuck in set patterns - the diamond shape the swords poke into seems to not wanting to really let go of them, as in old habits and excuses. I'm a chronic pain sufferer, and I recently realized I am sometimes using it as an excuse to not even try some things anymore. I am currently trying to get out of this pattern.

I did that exact same thing (pips=tarot minors), too --until I started using this deck --it just can't be done. It's been a learning experience for me, out of my comfort zone and that's what I want to gain from this forum--the motivation to try out new systems, get out those decks of cards that I purchased years ago and never used. I'm like the Knight of Coins, sitting on my sturdy horse, coin in hand, but not doing anything with it --until my buddy, the Knight of Clubs comes charging up and saying, "Let's get going!" The elements/suits in The Playing Card Oracle are Hearts = Water - West - Childhood - emotions, healing, fluidity... Clubs = Air - East - Summer/Adolescence - thoughts, ideas, communication... Diamonds = Fire - South - Autumn/Mid-life - prosperity, creativity... Spades = Earth - North - Old age/Death - the physical, discipline, responsibility, darkness, cold...
VGimlet Posted February 17, 2020 Author Posted February 17, 2020 I love the Petra K too, one of my favorites. I am a little bummed, my source for my giant spiral bound journal isn't making them anymore. Since my box of them is buried during the ongoing renovations I went online to order a new one and GONE. <shedding a little tear>. I use these for my tarot deck reviews. I e-mailed the company to see what was up.. They still do their deconstruction journals, but those aren't want I want. Sigh.
Arania Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 Oh it's funny how such little things can throw us off. I love to stick with what I always do as well. Got 5 of Wands for today. The lil' dragon in there clutches his riches while trying to grab the other 4 wands with all his many tails, too. It clearly tells me to not try everything at once today.
Arania Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 So I had 10 of Triax yesterday, and as Triax is for spirit and this is a very spiritual deck I was expecting something more, well, spiritual than "go start planting your herbs and veggies already." But that's what it clearly shouted at me.. Didn't get far there until today when I pulled The Searcher, which, strangely, is still called Hermit in both French and German. I have a good reason to have removed the titles. Look at him there bonking me on the head for being lazy. Yes, now I have my first seeds in the ground. Thank you very much.

I had not yet seen her website, and I was surprised to learn that the tarot was created only in 2008. For some reason I had thought that it was much older than that, also because this one has been in my collection for quite some time... I love it too, especially its beautiful colors, there's something vivifying about looking at the cards. Makes me think of spring! Edited February 23, 2020 by Amberjune
