RavenOfSummer Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 According to the Llewellyn website, this deck is forthcoming in October this year: "This deluxe, limited-edition, numbered kit is the most sought after deck of the year. Packaged in a stunning premium box, the cards combine the moody essence of the original deck with the addition of evocative splashes of blood red detailing." I'm curious if anyone knows the background of this deck? Since they refer to the differences between this edition and "the original deck" I assume another version has been in print before, but I'm not familiar with it. Thanks for any info!
RavenOfSummer Posted May 21, 2020 Author Posted May 21, 2020 I think I answered my own question! It looks like the link and pic I shared earlier are for a limited special edition of the deck, which is being released AT THE SAME TIME as the original version of the deck, which will also be a new publication. So that was my confusion. The special edition has the "splashes of blood red detailing", while the original deck is all black and white. I'm so glad, because I love the all black and white version way more! Here is the link to the original, black and white version, as opposed to other edition I shared earlier: https://teen.llewellyn.com/product.php?ean=9780738766423
gregory Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 That's actually a deck from Lo Scarabeo. I DO wish Llewellyn would make more effort to say this.
RavenOfSummer Posted May 21, 2020 Author Posted May 21, 2020 Ahh, thank you for the clarification, @gregory!
53rdspirit Posted May 21, 2020 Posted May 21, 2020 Wish I could see more cards. I searched around online but didn't see additional pics from what has already been posted. Yeah...I like the plain black and white better...think the additional dramatic blood splatters is unnecessary (but the artist IS a comic book artist, so...). I'm not feeling "real crow" personality in these cards. hence, why I'd like to see more.

It may be some time until we're able to see more images since the deck isn't due out until October. If I come across any additional images, I'll be sure to share them!
Rodney Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 I know the person who wrote the LWB for the deck. I've seen all the cards in the deck and I'm generally not impressed. I'll probably still buy it though to support my friend. I could be wrong because I'm not familiar with the artist's work, but it came across to me as another deck of existing art that's crammed into the tarot format. Although I can't remember which ones now, there were more than a few images where I cocked my head and said, "How is that the (insert card name)?" I believe the deck is supposed to be post-apocalyptic, but that didn't come through consistently in the cards.

Quinn Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 Am I the only one on the forum then that really likes the "blood red touch?" Reminded me a bit of Sin City.
Rodney Posted November 29, 2020 Posted November 29, 2020 I got the limited edition deck. The first picture shown above of the special edition makes it look like the wings extend beyond the top cover, but they don't. I like the special edition more than I did the regular edition. They changed at least one card since I saw the deck. Originally the Fool had a big ass gong-like smiley face on it. That was one of the headscratcher WTF cards I mentioned earlier. In the special edition, there are 2 double-sided cards that can be used as Significators. The Crow Mother and Crow Father are one card. The Mother would be used when looking at psychological aspects of a situation while the Father would be used for looking at outward and practical aspects of a situation. The other card is Crow Dawn and Crow Dusk. Dawn looks at beginnings and causes while Dusk looks at consequences and results. I still would be surprised if this is all original art instead of predominantly existing art that was shoe-horned into the tarot format. I started reading the LWB but got distracted. Have to get back around to that since I know the author and can give him grief. 😉😆
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted November 29, 2020 Posted November 29, 2020 Squee posted some good comparison images on the deck of the week thread
