I love that combo for AI. What else could represent it except a 'person' card in a box... and a coffin at that since there's no life, as you said. (For me, either because I don't read with it regularly or my brain works better with tarot, I almost always struggle with which of the possible meanings to go with. Even though I only use one method that I learned years ago, and I think it's a great method, there's still the question of whether to take things in their metaphorical sense like a loss, or literal meaning, like a box. When I read with tarot, I just know (or at least feel that I know) which aspect of the card to go with in combination. With Lenormand, these sorts of brilliant pairs don't occur to me, and if I had drawn Man and Coffin myself, I probably would never have made the connection like you did.)

Just a question here. In the posting box there used to be a button for "default font". There's no way now to choose a font, and so if I write up a post in Word and copy-paste, it keeps the font I was using in Word. If I try "posting as plain text" it still keeps the Word font - I have to remember to switch to the forum font in Word before pasting. I know invision HAS the facility to switch to the forum default as it's still there on my other invision forum where this button: is for "remove format". No BIGGIE but we had something like that before the update.....

Dear card readers, I just stumbled upon an interesting potential meaning of the Man card I haven’t come across before. I wanted to do a quick open reading, no specific question in mind just: what's next for me? 19 Tower_28 Man_33 Key 14 Fox_8 Coffin_30 Lilies Bottom card: 17 Stork Cards in the lower row are the descriptors/clarifiers. The man and the coffin gave me a bit of a headache. The only way I could make sense of this was: by establishing smart boundaries I put an end to a connection with man so I can keep my peace. There is a man in my neighbourhood I find attractive and even though our interaction had been very brief so far, I had the impression that something was not quite right. There is an uneasiness and some red flags. I already tried to navigate around the places where I usually run into him (that could be indicated by the stork). So far so good. A couple of hours later I sit at my computer. My coach gave me the assignment to check for potential further educations. So I did a bit of research and also asked ChatGPT. This was actually quite a good idea because that's basically the only job AI has in my life: proofreading my applications and hinting at blind spots etc. ”It knows” for example which skills I'm lacking in regard to positions I'm applying for. Then the light bulb: Man + Coffin = the lifeless entity (in the box)! Then the cards can be read as me, smart in solitude, asking the lifeless entity (AI) about how to access new honours. Of course, Tower and Fox can speak about the institution that is cunning-up people. But I usually go with the most fluent, succinct wording that comes to me. Stork as the theme of the reading would be the levelling-up. I just wanted to share this. Just like we use the Stars to indicate the internet we'll need cards to represent other new technologies that become part of our lives. And I'm amazed how the cards themselves come up with suggestions for that!

I just saw a deck (The Fairy Tale Tarot, by Lisa Hunt) in which The Empress is depicted as the fairy godmother from the Cinderella story! How good is that? In terms of her effect on a person? And of course, reversed, she could be the Bad Fairy in Sleeping Beauty, couldn't she? Love it already, and I've just ordered the deck. 😀

I finally realised that The Fairy Tale Tarot deck by Lisa Hunt is the same one Amazon has displayed for sale. I didn't realise that the Little Red Riding Hood (Innocence/The Fool) card is NOT the picture apparently depicted on the box this time. Anyway, I've been hoping to get this deck for a long time, so I ordered it. Should be here the middle of August sometime. I just know I'll love this deck, as I am an enthusiastic student of fairy/folk tales from around the world, and have a library of books that are collected tales, etc. It will also be great to use this deck in any future ISG group readings I participate in on the forum. I suspect this deck will read extremely well using 'intuition only.' The picture I've seen of the shoemaker's elves working under a full moon at night (The Ace of Pentacles) is just a glimpse of the potential this deck has, in terms of intuitive understanding.

I am reviving this thread because I just found out… rather belatedly, I guess… that there is an edition, called Wild Wisdom Collection, including all three of Maia Toll’s oracles: the Illustrated Herbiary, the Illustrated Bestiary and the Illustrated Cristallary. I neved had any of her decks, but I like the art very much (at least what I have seen online), so this collection seems interesting. But I’d like some first-hand accounts to help me decide... if anyone has had an experience with the decks (any of them), I’d love to hear about it! Thank you!

I definitely haven't been keeping up with this thread, so I'll just jump in now. I'm expecting all these preorders from various Llewellyn coupons. (The site has a 35% off coupon right now until July 26 if you're interested.) Chromatika Tarot to add to my abstract art subcollection will be shipping to me soon. The Psychopomps Oracle because I need more mythological decks, expected Sep Visconti di Brambilla Tarot because I can't let an historical deck get by me, expected Oct The 72 Angels and Demons (book) hopefully to use with my Travis McHenry and other shemhamephorash decks, expected Nov Tarot Affirmations because I failed Mary Greer's affirmation teaching, expected Nov Mythology Tarot because I need even MORE mythological decks! expected Dec And, as I mentioned elsewhere, I backed The School of the Heart Oracle Deck on Kickstarter, expected Dec

Thank you so much for clarifying that, and it makes so much sense! I'll pay attention to my own readings from now, when the Jack and King of the same suit appear near each other, to see if the thoughts/intentions theory works for me. I like it, I feel like it adds another possible layer for interpretation, especially in smaller readings that have too many 'people' cards.

This week I am working with my beloved Alchemist's Garden Tarot. It depicts all plants used in shamanic practice. Many are halucinogenic healing herbs and fungi, dangerous for people, that do not know them and their properties well. With many of these I have a personal working relationship and quite a few I have used in powerful healing with patients.

Hi! Happy Monday! It’s time to finish up my Golden Dawn category with three weeks of Thothy decks. This week will be the Aleister Crowley Thoth Small Tarot Deck, US Games (which is really the medium size) purple box along with my large green box trimmed, which turn out to be about the same size. The medium has the two extra Magus cards, which I won’t use. I attach my Thoth attributions table just because. Two interviews! What is your most important characteristic? King of Wands I’m purposely misnaming to emphasize the names and titles aren’t on the trimmed cards. This deck goes boldly forward in its own way, while still using an existing system, like even the most radical king is king because of tradition. (A usurper or dictator is different.) What is your strength? 2 Disks, Jupiter in Capricorn Again, it’s a good balance of innovation and tradition. It expands (Jupiter) on other people’s hard work (Capricorn). Your weakness? 6 Disks, Moon in Taurus, and all the planets, assuming the yellow circle is the sun I don’t have to have all the versions of the Thoth deck. That would be an illusion (moon) of greed (Taurus). What can I learn from you? Ace of Swords, Thelema I’ve already learned a lot from this deck! Especially to have my own ideas and own will about tarot! How can I learn it? 9 Disks, Venus in Virgo More disks. I have learned to follow my own ideas by owning lots of decks and learning from them all. Venus in Virgo is kind of the opposite of Moon in Taurus, in that my pleasure in owning decks and organizing them has been a good way for me to learn. What will be the outcome of our work together? 9 Wands, Sun in Sagittarius Another 9. I will be able to defend trimming this deck and using a trimmed deck! Fun! What is your most important characteristic? 2 Cups, Love, Venus in Cancer Well, that sounds good! The deck is for lovers of the Thoth and esoteric things. What is your strength? The Tower, Mars It’s just very, very strong. It’s not afraid to tell the negative with the positive. Your weakness? Ace of Wands Similar! All that fire can be too much. What can I learn from you? Prince of Wands Three courts together. And more fire. I can learn to be active and move forward. How can I learn it? Knight of Cups I can learn about being active by being in charge of my own emotions. What will be the outcome of our work together? Knight of Swords I will be in charge of my ideas and understanding. Ok, we’ll see! Thoth Astrological Attributions with titles and decan planets.pdf

Thank you Fire cat! I'm in this week with the Slavic Legends Tarot paired with the Urban Crow Oracle. Slavic Legends Tarot, Eight of Cups; Urban Crow Oracle, Sacred Space De fumo in flammam ("out of the smoke into the flame"). —Tertullian This fellow has his knapsack packed and doesn't even bother to glance at the cups dangling below him. He traverses a waterfall, suggesting he is leaving behind a tumultuous relationship. Why do we leave partners, friends or groups? Ultimately the misery of holding on outweighs the benefits of staying. Yet there is caution needed - we may jump from one extreme into its opposite, thinking it to be better. For instance, we might leave someone who is cold, uncommunicative and distant only to find ourselves with someone who is clingy and shares every thought nonstop. Sacred Space suggests we find some time to incubate our own values and objectives before we make a leap. By spending time alone, we can center ourselves, remembering what is important, and ground ourselves, allowing our emotions to calm.

The adjacent card helps me know the content of the thoughts, not the Knave itself (or otherwise it would get repetitive. The rule only holds if the Jack is next to the King or Queen of the same suit. They only respond to the rulers of their own suit). If they represent subordinates to their respective King/Queen when functioning as a literal person, they work the same way when read as thoughts: that is, the King/Queen's intentions. The Knaves do the King/Queen's bidding, so they can be what the King/Queen is sending out, if that makes sense. It wouldn't be helpful to take the Jack itself as the content whenever they end up next to one of these cards; the King of Diamonds doesn't always think about money (Jack of Diamonds). Let's say that, for instance, we had these cards together some place in the tableau (or whatever spread you're using): King of Diamonds + Knave of Diamonds + Two of Spades + Ten of Spades. In this example, I read the Jack as "intends to..." (think of it as a connector between the King and the rest of the cards). A man, maybe someone important that you work with, intends to break things off, which will lead to sever upset. See how that worked? Still, this isn't the primary meaning for me; I note it scarcely in certain contexts and depending on the first impression I get. So, based on what I do (reading the court cards as people almost all the time), if a Knave of a different suit ends up next to a King/Queen, it's a person, and rarely news either intended for or about that person (not their thoughts). However, there are no hard and fast rules as every reading is different; you have to trust yourself and allow some room for flow while still following the logic of your system. It gets more complicated when, for example, the person you're reading for is under a certain age (21 in my practice) and so they have to be represented by a Jack. What would you read as news? If you're reading for a dark haired lady and she indeed has a son (Jack of Spades), what would signify bad news? (This Jack when read as messages is malefic, if we strictly think of it in terms of the suit's function). Of course, you can read one card in different ways and thus take the Jack as both a person and messages in another line or combo, but I tend to look at what is around the Ace of Diamonds instead (=news, intentions, what is sent out). It's another reason why I interpret the Court cards as people: for the ease.

Thank you so much for sharing your insights, @Moon-Hermit ! In my own reading, it does seem to me that the Jack represented the news, while the King represented an actual man WITH financial power! I love the idea of the Jack near the king representing his thoughts... but I am curious: the Jack himself is the content of the thought, or is the card adjacent to the Jack that helps you know what the thought is about?

I wanted to share here a spread that I found useful because it's... short and to the point, and doesn't focus only on romantic relationships. It was taken from the companion book of Kim Krans' Wild Unknown Animal Spirit oracle, but I have used it with other oracles as well! .....4..... 1...5...2 .....3..... 1. You 2. The other person 3. The shadow dynamic 4. The illuminated dynamic 5. Advice Personally (this is not in the book), I choose to interpret the shadow dynamic as that which is lacking or not developing naturally and the illuminated dynamic as that which flows naturally in the relationship. But I also think the shadow dynamic and represent an unconscious dynamic between the people involved, while the illuminate dynamic can represent the visible/obvious dynamic. You will have to try and see what works best for you.
