Court Cards in Playing Cards
Moon-Hermit replied to Marina's topic in Playing CardsThe adjacent card helps me know the content of the thoughts, not the Knave itself (or otherwise it would get repetitive. The rule only holds if the Jack is next to the King or Queen of the same suit. They only respond to the rulers of their own suit). If they represent subordinates to their respective King/Queen when functioning as a literal person, they work the same way when read as thoughts: that is, the King/Queen's intentions. The Knaves do the King/Queen's bidding, so they can be what the King/Queen is sending out, if that makes sense. It wouldn't be helpful to take the Jack itself as the content whenever they end up next to one of these cards; the King of Diamonds doesn't always think about money (Jack of Diamonds). Let's say that, for instance, we had these cards together some place in the tableau (or whatever spread you're using): King of Diamonds + Knave of Diamonds + Two of Spades + Ten of Spades. In this example, I read the Jack as "intends to..." (think of it as a connector between the King and the rest of the cards). A man, maybe someone important that you work with, intends to break things off, which will lead to sever upset. See how that worked? Still, this isn't the primary meaning for me; I note it scarcely in certain contexts and depending on the first impression I get. So, based on what I do (reading the court cards as people almost all the time), if a Knave of a different suit ends up next to a King/Queen, it's a person, and rarely news either intended for or about that person (not their thoughts). However, there are no hard and fast rules as every reading is different; you have to trust yourself and allow some room for flow while still following the logic of your system. It gets more complicated when, for example, the person you're reading for is under a certain age (21 in my practice) and so they have to be represented by a Jack. What would you read as news? If you're reading for a dark haired lady and she indeed has a son (Jack of Spades), what would signify bad news? (This Jack when read as messages is malefic, if we strictly think of it in terms of the suit's function). Of course, you can read one card in different ways and thus take the Jack as both a person and messages in another line or combo, but I tend to look at what is around the Ace of Diamonds instead (=news, intentions, what is sent out). It's another reason why I interpret the Court cards as people: for the ease.

Court Cards in Playing Cards
Marina replied to Marina's topic in Playing CardsThank you so much for sharing your insights, @Moon-Hermit ! In my own reading, it does seem to me that the Jack represented the news, while the King represented an actual man WITH financial power! I love the idea of the Jack near the king representing his thoughts... but I am curious: the Jack himself is the content of the thought, or is the card adjacent to the Jack that helps you know what the thought is about? -
Oracle reading
Marina replied to Aparna's topic in Oracle SpreadsI wanted to share here a spread that I found useful because it's... short and to the point, and doesn't focus only on romantic relationships. It was taken from the companion book of Kim Krans' Wild Unknown Animal Spirit oracle, but I have used it with other oracles as well! .....4..... 1...5...2 .....3..... 1. You 2. The other person 3. The shadow dynamic 4. The illuminated dynamic 5. Advice Personally (this is not in the book), I choose to interpret the shadow dynamic as that which is lacking or not developing naturally and the illuminated dynamic as that which flows naturally in the relationship. But I also think the shadow dynamic and represent an unconscious dynamic between the people involved, while the illuminate dynamic can represent the visible/obvious dynamic. You will have to try and see what works best for you. -

Cooper & Fry - British crime series with tarot in the plot!
Raggydoll replied to Raggydoll's topic in Tarot in MediaI asked google and it said Clapperboard and Studio TF1. No idea if that’s helpful at all 😅. Maybe it’s harder to get hold of outside of Europe? I do hope someone will chime in with a solution for you! -

geoxena replied to Raggydoll's topic in Tarot in MediaI looked for this series on BritBox but, alas, it's not available there yet. At least not via the Roku website. Do any of you know who produces it? Maybe it's available a different way for people in the US. -

MPC Study Deck (RWS)
gregory replied to jaygon's topic in RWSWell, I found a review from someone who apparently had the first one, and she said it was by this guy, who has a LOT to choose from: https://www.makeplayingcards.com/sell/the-tarot-lounge I dunno. If you want to know the BEST one, and @truelighth is still here, she can tell you for SURE ! -
MPC Study Deck (RWS)
Raggydoll replied to jaygon's topic in RWSIt might be based on the same scans, but the deck in the first link had different proportions on the borders plus slightly darker images. This linen version has more narrow borders and brighter colors. I don't know if the linen version is going to look over exposed, but I do feel like the cropping is nicer on that one. And what is not to love about linen cardstock... -
MPC Study Deck (RWS)
jaygon replied to jaygon's topic in RWSThis all came about a few years back when I asked about the most accurate PAM A facsimile available. The 1909 Art Restoration Deck (Roses and Lillies, not PAM A) and the MPC Study Deck (PAM A) were recommended as the most accurate recreations. There are all sorts of YouTube Videos which make various comparisons so both decks seem to be a thing. I have the 1909 recreation deck but the Study Deck was no longer available when I went to look for it. The current one reappeared about a year ago but I wondered if it has the same accuracy (in recreation terms) as the one in all the videos

MPC Study Deck (RWS)
gregory replied to jaygon's topic in RWSTo be honest - I'm not sure that Study Deck is that special, that different from the others that look just like it on MPC. It seems to be just a scanned Pam A. Yesterday

Court Cards in Playing Cards
Moon-Hermit replied to Marina's topic in Playing CardsThe Jack, when not a younger person (I say person, because they are not 100% male or 100% female to me), can represent some form of news, a message. In your case, that was a message of money, which is a valid meaning of the Knave of Diamonds. When a Jack falls next to a King or Queen of its own suit, if it's a person, it would be a child in a family unit or a subordinate to the King or Queen if not related. If it's not a person but still next to these Court cards, then it's often read as the thoughts of the King or Queen. For me, the King is always a man, and the Queen a woman. However, the method I mainly follow (Hedgewytchery) stated that Kings can also represent power (financial power in the case of the King of Diamonds), and Queens are the emblems of truth. However, I have more often seen the Court cards (especially the King and Queen) come through as literal people, so that's what I always read them as (it's like having the Lord or Lady cards in Lenormand appear in the spread; they are nothing but literal people. Same with playing cards; the Courts are the actors, and I have the pips to describe the situation to me). If I can't identify them, maybe I haven't met them yet or they are exerting an indirect influence over the situation at hand. In a tableau using all the 52 cards, for example, you are more directly connected with the Court cards that fall on the same horizontal or vertical line of your Significator, or connect to it through methods such as counting; so you would have an easier time identifying them in real life. I think of those falling in the diagonal lines (in relation to your Significator) as "individuals just around the corner"; you can't see them directly, may not even bump into them. But if they fall near your Significator, then they are a significant influence.

Cooper & Fry - British crime series with tarot in the plot!
Raggydoll replied to Raggydoll's topic in Tarot in MediaOoh I’m loving the description of season two - the rich local folklore will continue on as a theme! 😍 (From Gregory’s link) “The second series will see the duo continue to investigate a succession of unsettling murder cases. Building on the unique bond forged during the first series, Ben and Diane will tackle cases rooted in the rich folklore of the region, all while contending with their clashing investigative approaches and confronting their complicated personal lives”. -

gregory replied to Raggydoll's topic in Tarot in MediaI was delighted to see a few actors from BBC series that have fallen over. Not least Sarah Moyle who was in Doctors for years. A show that should have continued, so great to see her still working. Next series will air in 2027, it seems. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/newsliverpool/detective-series-cooper-fry-in-major-update-as-new-cast-announced/ar-AA27SE7G -

Tanga replied to Raggydoll's topic in Tarot in MediaOh NO! we're digressing again! Do you know - a psychic once told me that I actually come from the Pleiades? (a rather cute club shaped constellation that I often look for when I'm star gazing). And... who says the Sidhe aren't aliens? 🤣 "The Pleiades is a stunning, young open star cluster in the Taurus constellation, located roughly 440 light-years away. Known as the "Seven Sisters", it contains over 1,000 stars and is easily visible to the naked eye as a tight, misty dipper shape in the winter night sky". -
