Deck of the Week Sign-up Thread, Week 470: Jul. 6 - Jul. 12
Mi-Shell replied to fire cat pickles's topic in Deck of the WeekGood morning Everyone! Well, you will probably shake your head in disbelief, but I will give the "All our Relations" deck another try this week. Here are my daily draws from yesterday, when the forum was closed and from this morning: I love the woodcut images and the sturdiness of the cards :) The narratives on the back however are quite another matter. We do live with Bears, we have a den on our land and see them regularly. However, they do not spread carcasses!! Never have I seen an Animal, that does that. There is also no Marine derived nitrogen to be had around here. Maybe in some Salmon Rivers in British Columbia - but the rest of the Bear World?? No. And today, this morning, I had to laugh out loud when reading that we have nothing better to say about Elephants than thanking for their pooooooop!?? -

Deck of the Week Sign-up Thread, Week 470: Jul. 6 - Jul. 12
Bodhiseed replied to fire cat pickles's topic in Deck of the WeekSorry I'm late! I couldn't get on the forum yesterday. I'm in this week with the Anna K. Tarot and Meditation Cards. The shallow satisfaction of having is always replaced by more wanting. β Eckhart Tolle This plump, bodacious version of the Empress reminds me of the prehistoric Venus statues. Anthropologists suggest these well-rounded forms were symbols of prosperity and fertility: in harsh, freezing climates, being overnourished was a crucial asset. In today's world, however, most of us do not live on the cup's lip of survival or oblivion. The Empress reminds us that we have enough, though the ads in media or comparing ourselves to others may influence us otherwise. Dissolve Into Now offers a verse by Thich Nhat Hanh: When I drink tea, there is only me and the tea. The rest of the world dissolves. There are no worries about the future. No dwelling on past mistakes. Using our senses, what can we appreciate right here where we are in this moment? As Kristin Armstrong stated, "When we focus on our gratitude, the tide of disappointment goes out and the tide of love rushes in." -

Deck of the Week Sign-up Thread, Week 470: Jul. 6 - Jul. 12
BrightEye replied to fire cat pickles's topic in Deck of the WeekThank you @fire cat pickles and hello again everyone. This week, Iβll be working with the Lars-Kristian Holmsen Tarot. Itβs a book-and-deck set that my stepfather gifted me many years ago. Recently, Iβve felt very drawn to it. It reminds me of childrenβs book illustrations, and Iβve been thinking a lot about my own childhood and revisiting places from the past. The card I was particularly drawn to recently is the Chariot, here called βThe Heroβ. Funnily, where I grew up is hot air balloon country, especially in summer, and my stepfather loves hot air balloons. In any case, this is me, on my journey through life at the moment. β I have yet to read the book that comes with it in detail, but what Iβve read so far looks rather good. -
Letβs Sneak a Peek Behind the High Priestessβs Veil
Chariot commented on Cariabella's blog entry in Tarot for self-development and shadow workThat's very helpful. I think I've been confused because so much of the lore around The High Priestess is about 'intuition' ...and the reversed card is supposed to indicate faulty intuition, or even too much reliance on intuition. So what I'm feeling is actually incorrect? Umm. That's very hard to pinpoint. Your interpretation of the upright card, to calm myself and use all the knowledge I've accumulated over the years to affect my attitude makes a lot more sense. And then of course, the reversed would mean NOT taking the time to calm myself and reflect on what I actually know. In other words, The High Priestess is not so much the correctness or incorrectness of what my intuition tells me, but it's about how I access that intuition. I will work harder on this card, when it comes up in readings. Thanks! -
It's kinda overwhelming getting started
Chariot replied to witchcraft's topic in Tarot Talk & TechniqueHi there, @witchcraft Welcome to the forum. Yeah, it can be quite daunting, I imagine, if you're just starting out. Yikes. I've been on this forum for quite a while now, and still find some of it overwhelming. I guess the trick is to zero in on parts of the forum that are helpful to a person who is not only new to the forum, but new to Tarot as well. Because you use a pip deck, you will find that you WILL need to refer to your booklet that came with the deck. Pip cards, while decorative, are not easy for a beginner to interpret without reference material. (No pictures to give you an idea of what the card might mean.) So, by all means, use your booklet until you become familiar with your deck. Either that, or maybe invest in a deck that illustrates all the card meanings? It's a matter of opinion, but my opinion is that it's easier to get started on learning card meanings when a card's meaning is directly illustrated on the card itself. If you like Anime, you can search for decks that employ Anime, but illustrate all the cards. I'm sure they exist. One example is The Mystical Manga Tarot, which has a few flip-through videos on YouTube, showing you what each card looks like. I have found one particular part of the forum to be very helpful. If you go to the section marked Forums, at the top of any page, click on that and scroll down to Tarot Talk and Technique, then choose Individual Card Meanings, you will find lots of discussion and information about particular cards. These entries are not in any particular order, so you might have to search a bit for a particular card, but I really enjoy this section of the forum as it's thoughtful, usable, and easy to access. All the best! :) -
Death card in the first position
JoyousGirl replied to alethian's topic in Individual Card MeaningsThanks @Sar. He was a good man, a safe man, a good environmentalist, good to animals, a good artist, and most of all a good friend. He will be sorely missed. @alethian I've been contemplating recently that the first card could refer to what's already been, whether it's the past or something from the past coming up for review, sort of like a Mercury retrograde. Our present has something to do with our past. -

Hi forum
Lakewater replied to Lakewater's topic in IntroductionsThanks glad to meet you both I'm still new to learning tarot Right now I am using a Rider Waite Smith deck but the books I'm finding use other decks or are in black and white. Do you know of tarot books that have image references to this deck in colour?

It's kinda overwhelming getting started
JoyousGirl replied to witchcraft's topic in Tarot Talk & TechniqueWelcome @witchcraft you are setting out on a wonderful life-long experience where there is always a new discovery. My advice would be to get a journal for the deck. Write what you want the deck to do in the cover or on the first page; Shuffle the deck while concentrating on your intention (doing readings which help others, for self development etc). This puts your energy into the cards and puts it out to your spirit guides and teachers etc as to what you'll do with that deck. This may change over time, and you will probably have other deck/s as you grow, but working consistently and deeply with one deck really has power. You can then apply those meanings to other decks. Pull a card daily or weekly. Then describe the card in your journal. This way you know the card's imagery, but you can also add ideas about what comes to your mind when you're looking at the card. This will start you off well. You may not understand why a card means what it does in standard interpretations, but over time you will. To begin with, it needs to make sense to you, which is why journaling will help. Good luck. Stick with it. Yesterday

Hello there.
DanielJUK replied to witchcraft's topic in IntroductionsGlad you found us here @witchcraft We promise we don't persecute witches π§ββοΈ, everyone is welcome here π You can use tarot in whatever way is meaningful for you. We all have different beliefs about it. Some people do use it in a secular way. It has many myths and superstitions about it and I think to not be afraid about it. You might like these older discussions to browse sometime about superstition and the tarot.... -

It's kinda overwhelming getting started
DanielJUK replied to witchcraft's topic in Tarot Talk & Technique@witchcraft if you want to get to 5 posts, you are welcome to reply to people's introduction threads and welcome them as well as this thread π When you are starting out, it's fine to refer to the book. You are learning the cards. You might need to refer to your study materials to learn. It's worth keeping a journal or writing down any ideas you want with the cards. You might take something from the image or it triggers something with you. When you get to 5 posts, you can start a journal thread for yourself here and use it however you want! So you can write your own posts to yourself. About the forum, you are always welcome to post on old threads that is fine and add to the discussions. Also you are welcome to start your own. Also it's aimed for everyone, so please don't feel overwhelmed. There are all levels here. Some people read on fiction, like reading a book or watching a TV series? Reading on a character or how will the mystery turn out in the end? Who was the killer? That sort of thing. Can you get the ending with the tarot before you get to it?
