Hi all, I'm trying to track down a deck of Tarot cards for my wife I'm hoping you guys can help me.. Ok quick backstory, whilst staying with friends in France on vacation, our friend had a pack of Tarot cards on his shelf. My wife says oh I can read Tarot, (news to me!) allow me to show you the basics.. So she did an example reading for him. He drew some cards and she read them leaving him and his partner (and myself) gobsmacked. It was very accurate and left everyone a tad awkward. I later asked my wife about this, she said her great grandmother taught her and she used to read everyones cards in the village as a teenager. She also said our friends cards didn't…

I love my Grand Etteilla! The art, the whole tall dark stranger vibe, the extra cards... Can you tell me if Grand jeu de l Oracle des Dames is just another name for basically the same deck? I'm doing something really difficult and want to reward myself...

I'm confused about shuffling. It sounds silly, but I never know when to stop. A friend says "when you feel like it", but what if I don't know? Probably overthinking this, but it does bother me because I tend to focus on that instead of on the subject of the reading. And then do you cut the cards? Basically, how do you decide on a technique? When you have to pull a clarifier, do you just take a new card off the top, or do you shuffle first? I've been doing this for a while but I realise I still don't know how to handle the simple basics. 🙂 Thanks!

What a great, intense weekend of tarot! It was amazing! There were 78 (no kidding!) attendees and 4 presenters. The presentations were based on tarot and the brain, natural biases, and Rachel Pollack. There was a nice display with her Shining Tribe deck and some beautiful quote cards we could pull from to receive a special message from Rachel. The actual service is later today, Wednesday July 19. On Friday night Mary Greer opened the event with a Tarot Circle that is a reading version of speed dating. Very cool way to a) meet other attendees and b) play a tarot activity that proves anyone can read the cards without knowing anything about tarot. There …

I was pondering yes/no questions, and getting answers to them with the cards thanks to a recent process suggested by @Grizabella with Majors and Minors. As I pondered that, the old expression "the heart says yes but the head says no" came to mind. Grizabella uses Majors and Minors. I suggest using Cups as the Heart (yes), and Swords as the Head (no), and a 3 card pull. Ideally this would be tested by simple questions "will the bus be late?" "will I get mail today?" etc. to verify the accuracy. These are actual things in motion - but it doesn't answer "should I?", "do they," or "will we/they" etc questions. There's questions about conscience and e…

Hi all X/ I'm a strong Bible-believer, and this morning I thought of that. A bit after I looked at some old readings in my tarot journal, when I came to think: Is it wrong to be a christian and work with tarot? Then I thought a clear "no" since I felt a overwhelming presence of The Holy Ghost in my heart. (it's a very special feeling, hard to describe - I think the best description would be that it feels like my heart chakra have taken a strong mint). It made me wonder - what tarot card would be The Holy Ghost? Personally I'm landing on The Fool, Ace of Cups or 6 of cups.

Hello! I've been studying my tarot deck as well as keeping a tarot journal, this is something that works really well for me and gives me my own place to reflect. But as I've been studying I've come up with a couple questions. First: My decks court arcana consists of Kings, Queens, Princes, and Princess's, and not the traditional Page and Knight. I am wondering if Page is equal to Princess and Knight is equal to Prince, but if not, what is the difference? Second: Say I am doing a reading for myself and after I have layed out the cards and seen them, realized I may not be in the mind set for it. Is it okay to simply put away the cards and forget about the spread,…

Hello, I am new here, I have been interested in Tarot for many years and I try to do readings for myself and close friends, but I am not overly confident. Today I did a celtic spread for myself and the cards I think were quite relevant to what I was hoping to get some insight about but I am not too confident with my interpretation. Is there any section of this Forum where I could maybe post a picture of the reading and maybe have some help interpreting it please? Thanks in advance :)

Apologies in advance if there’s been a thread about this already (if so, maybe a kind soul could post the link?) I was wondering what your favourite references are for RWS style Tarot reading? When I first got my deck, I also bought “The Only Tarot Book You’ll Ever Need” by Skye Alexander, which has been great for me as a beginner to try get a handle on some of the various meanings and inversions etc. I also use Biddy Tarot as a reference, a couple of YouTube videos (when I first started I watched this + part 2 which really helped me understand how some of the cards relate to each other)... and of course this forum! I’m definitely looking to expand …

Hi fellow forum-ers, I have been on this journey of discovering my own technique to read tarot and this topic is a very interesting one for me. Initially when I was learning how to read the cards, I was able to catch up the upright meanings very quickly and they all made a lot of sense to me. However, when I started reading reversals, things just confused me and I could not make out what was what. After a lot of trials I decided to not read reversals anymore. But that makes me think if I am missing out on any messages from my spirit guide. Apart from this, I also want an insight on other readers techniques and practice of …

I'm perplexed why and how it doesn't matter how you shuffle or select cards for a spread. If you choose cards randomly from the fanned out deck, or simply deal from the top or bottom of the deck, you're going to select wildly different cards. So how can it not matter? Hi all! So, I've been reading cards for about 6 months and this one threw me for a loop: I found a "new love" spread and the Queen of Cups reversed was in the placement of "where you will meet him/her" and now I'm stumped! How would you read this card as a location/place/etc? Thanks!

I feel that her video is highly interesting and I have yet to figure out where I personally stand in all of this. She used to previously say "No" to all health related requests, and referring all such clients to medical professionals. Now she has had a change of heart and sees things in a different light. I will let her explain it in her own words, as to not misrepresent her standpoints. So make sure to watch the video! Now I would like to hear what everyone else thinks about this! Would you help someone with a health related question? Where do YOU draw the line? Is there a difference between merely exploring a topic (such as someones health status) and giving…

I've been thinking outside the box again (a decidedly dangerous pursuit). I get some use out of the Lenormand house system (although I don't use it exhaustively every time), both the traditional 36-card Grand Tableau version and the "movable houses" approach to smaller spreads. I've been pondering whether something similar could be done with the tarot, and decided to use a method I already created for another purpose as an experiment. It seems to hold some promise as an alternative to the astrological spread. https://parsifalswheeldivination.com/2019/08/20/a-house-system-for-tarot/

I've just started using a new technique with small layouts that I am finding VERY useful. By small, I mean layouts with only three, four, or five positions - past, present, future, helping a friend, solving a problem, etc. The big change is that instead of just one card for each position, I now draw two cards and interpret them together. And WOW! This really helps nail a meaning for me. Does anybody else do this? Example: Middle images ...situation at present for my friend Bottom images ...what I should NOT do Top images ...what is best for me to do The double images are so much easier to interpret than the single image would be, in my opini…

My tarot journey started with the gifting of a single deck from my closet friend. She ultimately gifted me my second deck and I felt compelled to use both for the first reading I did after receiving the second deck. Is it normal to feel sure if one or two decks are correct for a particular reading? Sometimes, it feels absolutely wrong to use both decks and in others, completely necessary. I would like to expand beyond the decks I use but feel I'm still being prepared for other types of decks. Would I be biting off more than I could chew by just buying a new type of deck I've never used simply because I want to expand?

(The odds would favor a man his age being deceased. I haven't been able to find an obituary, however. So if we manage to find him and he's living, I'm strongly urging you guys not to bother him. Eg if cards are 6 of pentacles-lovers- hermit then if I follow the advice being given by lovers and outcome will be what hermit is suggesting or is it that outcome is given but good thing to do is to follow the advice..please suggest.

How do you pick your cards for a reading? Do you pick all cards from the top of the deck or do you pick them random from the deck? Or how do you do? I usually pick mine from the top, but sometimes I pick them random or even from the bottom of the deck.

So 2 months ago I started a group online where I could do Tarot & Oracle readings to those who joined the group. I've been keeping the group private & small so that I do not overwhelm myself while I build this group up. I've been offering Free Tarot/Oracle readings once a week and have set up a Paypal link and explained the time & energy a reader puts into each reading and asked that people in the group make Donations of their choice in turn for tarot readings, outside of the Free readings I offer. My problem is that most in the group will volunteer for Free readings when I offer them up (all free readings I post on the group page so that all members can wa…

I'm posting this here in Tarot, but actually the subject could be related to any oracle. I have been debating a lot the actual usefulness of daily readings. I see them being recommended as a form of practice to get more used to certain oracle and, ideally, I can understand how it works. If you use a language everyday you'll become more fluent, more able to discern subtleties in communication etc. My idea when doing daily readings has always been to exercise that. However... in all my times doing daily readings, past and present, I have found them to be very difficult to interpret properly. The times I got something accurate were also times in which…
