Do you find yourself compelled to include the additional cards that can be found in some decks in your readings? Sometimes, I include the Unicursal Hexagram card found in the Thoth Tarot. I've heard that some readers include the extra four cards featuring PCS's non-Tarot artwork in the Smith-Waite Centennial Tarot.

Hi all. X/ I wonder how you flip the cards when you read? Of course - if you don't use reversals it doesn't matter - but if you do, I think it's very important how you flip the cards. I've seen people flip them so that the bottom of the card becomes the top. It's not how they were placed in the deck before flipping, but the very opposite. I think this is dangerous and wrong - especially if you read for others. When I read using reversals, I make sure the cards ends up the same way as they were in the deck before flipping. It means I flip them sideways. In my opinion this is very important.

I've been thinking outside the box again (a decidedly dangerous pursuit). I get some use out of the Lenormand house system (although I don't use it exhaustively every time), both the traditional 36-card Grand Tableau version and the "movable houses" approach to smaller spreads. I've been pondering whether something similar could be done with the tarot, and decided to use a method I already created for another purpose as an experiment. How many of you have engaged with a card's depth by doing an intentional visual mediation with the archetypes and symbolism? I believe I started with a template from Mary K. Greer, but soon adapted for my own needs. I have done so with several cards, all from the Thoth, which yielded some fascinating insights. Not always a revelation, but worth the effort. When another tarot reader reads for you, do you usually add new meanings to the reading? For example, I will mention a personal experience: I ordered a New Year's reading for myself with a professional tarot reader - I prefer to have someone else read for me, on certain occasions, so that I am not biased - In the predictions for my health, he mentioned the Justice card and interpreted it beautifully. There might be a bout of laziness in my question: I admit that in Book T I went straight to what looked like meanings, so usually the list of words after the flourished description. I found those "lists" interesting though sometimes antithetic terms lost me. The rest was too much for me (qabbalah and astrology). My question is: do you combine those with the PKT or do you keep them strictly apart? We know that almost all decks have their own set of card meanings written in their LWBs or companion books, tho if they follow a specific tradition (like if they're RWS-based for example) they can sometimes be similar. Some decks like the Mary-El, Chrysalis, and Kabbalistic Visions for example, have their own unique systems. Even decks that follow a certain school may exhibit some noticeable differences. If you read with various decks, do you find yourself applying the same personal meanings across most of the decks that you use? Or do you try to follow the set of interpretations created by their creators?

I seem to have started a habit of running multiple decks. I've been using the Druidcraft to guide my current spiritual journey, so when I wanted to do a daily draw about day-to-day feelings about things, I chose my old Spiral (or sometimes the Housewives. Did I mention it's an underrated deck? It always nails it.) The other deck that I use with specific intent is the Rohrig, which I usually get out if I need a creativity-related reading, though I'm thinking the Blake may take over that role. If you have a close friend or family member who also read the Tarot, and who'd not be averse to letting you use their decks if you'd extend them the same courtesy, would you let them use the decks that you personally own? Would you be open to sharing your wholly collection with them, are there some decks that you may be willing to lend to them while others are strictly off-limits, or is anyone touching your deck strictly verboten to you?

For example, today I did a reading for myself in a highly personal topic. I decided to do a past, present, future layout since it’s one of the few that I know and because I felt like it could clarify everything that happened. The three cards I pulled don’t make much sense in a temporal way but they did clarify pretty well what the situation was and allowed me to see things that I hadn’t seen before. Is that valid?

In one of my tarot books, the author mentioned that some readers will perform a deck clearing ritual just before the start of the reading. She didn't elaborate on this, so I am wondering if you can tell me what you do with the deck BEFORE the reading starts with the sitter? So 2 months ago I started a group online where I could do Tarot & Oracle readings to those who joined the group. I've been keeping the group private & small so that I do not overwhelm myself while I build this group up. I feel like the majority of users in the r/tarot subreddit take an oddly hard-line stance that tarot can only be used for self-reflection, that it's impossible to read predictively, or sometimes that it's possible but unethical (as in cases where people are attempting to read for third parties who aren't present). I find their doubt beginning to rub off on me, so I'm curious whether this forum's members have any different perspectives to share. In particular, I'd love to hear about any especially noteworthy or on-target predictive readings you've received.

I use some cards as bookmarks. :) I may sometimes use a whole deck as a paperweight. I don't use them to scare people or pets tho. As others have suggested, they can also be good prompts in writing stories and stuff.

In my area of the country, tonight is the full moon, and the lunar eclipse will also begin at 11:41PM EST. Imagine my delight when the first card in my spread this morning was The Moon, and the "bonus" card (one that popped out while I was shuffling) was the Ace of Coins.
