Hi everyone!  I promised myself that when I joined this forum I wouldn't be a lurker, and that I'd embrace this opportunity to meet other like minded Tarot lovers.

I came to Tarot very recently.  This past year, like most people, I've found myself working from home, and leading a pretty solitary life, during the day at least (my husband is an essential worker, and continued to go to work throughout the pandemic).  I've adopted companions along the way - through books, music, podcasts.  A few months ago, Patti Smith took me under her wing - I found myself listening to her memoir Year of the Monkey at the same time I was reading another of her books, M Train.  In her books, she describes her long time rituals - coffee, writing in cafes, visiting gravesites of famous authors, taking polaroids of meaningful objects, and pulling Tarot cards, sometimes before bed, always before a trip.  I wanted to be like Patti - she was like the too cool for school kid that you wanted to be just like, to me.  So, I tried reading Sylvia Plath (one of her gravesite pilgrimages), but that didn't take.  I became intrigued with her pulling Tarot cards, and I bought myself a deck, a basic RWS deck.  I was hooked.  As a lawyer, being an advisor is a natural fit for me, and in particular, as a trial lawyer, I'm swept up in the storytelling of the cards.  I'm totally into it, but I have no Tarot friends, and it's not so much that I haven't come out of the closet as a Tarot enthusiast, it's more that I don't really see anyone to even bring it up.

Anyway, hope everyone is well, and I'm looking forward to being part of the community here, and learning everything I can.

Take care,

Wendy

Welcome

Teawithlemon.

No need to share your first name, we go by our online names, unless you confident.

So you are new eh?

I imagine as a lawyer you be looking for an logical way of studying the tarot

There are modern tarot books built like

Susan chang, barbara bell wen.

Or could you be looking to unlock your inuitative side by studying for now the psychic, pictorial side.

I do advise looking at deck library, tarot deck reviews, before your new deck.

Heck you could be the first one to create the lawyers tarot !!

Thank you so much for the suggestions.  Did you mean Benebell Wen I think?  I've watched a lot of her videos, and started her book, Holistic Tarot.  Listening to her, I can completely tell she's a lawyer!

Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome Wendy. Nice to meet you! I am new here too and haven't come out of the closet yet too. in my case it is more of a religious society thing where all things metaphysical that doesnt follow mainstream religion is being looked down upon. So i am so glad I can find this forum too!

@TeaWithLemon I am glad you went on this journey in these global times and found these things for your self-care ❤️

I was fascinating about what you said about Benebell and you can tell she is a lawyer in her writings. I remember reading years ago on her blog about section that she has her real name on her professional legal career and uses a pseudonym for her divination writings. It was probably a good thing she did because she has become a huge brand in the community and it separates from her professional life 🙂 I just don't know how she does both, it's like two careers! hehe

@DanielJUK  She's very analytical in her approach - but of course, many people are, but her video presentations definitely sound like a case brief.  I heard an interview with her where she talks about using a pseudonym, and I found it pretty interesting, and completely understandable.  I don't think I'll be coming out as a tarot enthusiast at my office any time soon.
