Hey just curious how most of you like your deck or would prefer one between these styles/types:

A: a deck that has a theme even if courts and suits aren't necessarily shown, i.e. a flower themed deck with no pentacles, swords, etc just pictures showing the main vibe of the cards meaning through various plants.

B: a deck that shows the courts and suits in the artists style. i.e. arrows/snakes in place of swords, rocks or something in place of pentacles, etc.

C : a deck that shows pictures that display the card feeling and meaning with no theme carried and illusions to a suit or court. i.e. 2 of cups as two fish swimming in a bowl, 6 of swords as a runner in the lead of 5 other runners on a track?

Well first of all lonely this question will hinder you in the long run.

There are many like me who love pictures and hate pips.

Then there are the vice versa.

I always thought modern day creators who do simple pips were too lazy to put as much work into pips as they did their majors.

At least energetic pips like the thoths are better then 3 cards on card.

The reason why it hinders you is it doesn't matter what we think.

In the end you must do what your vision says.

Regarding my earlier comment..

Perhaps an creator got no vision for the minors.. could be why both waite and crowley got artists to do them.

I don't think waite gave pamela smith any real direction for the pips was the general myth . I haven't read historical studies to see if that is true

@HOLMESyou make a good point that they outsourced their vision to be represented by others. But I guess I was more curious which way people seem to think speaks to them more. I have started my own deck for myself but I was curious if what works for me works for the majority I guess. Thank you so much!

That might work for an oracle deck, but a Tarot deck without identifiable Tarot images, just flowers? No.

Those can work OK.

But two fish in a bowl doesn't express the meaning... :fa

@katrinka I guess it depends on the fish. Cause if one is known for eating the other its a choice to live in harmony together then. So that could represent the card as harmony or even fish like this could easily show balance and harmony through how the fish themselves are done. I don't know if that makes sense? But it did to me cause it also represent the element of cups so it's seems abstract the right amount almost...??? Maybe I'm nuts lol.

It depends on the deck, but in general I like option B.

I like decks with a clear theme.

No, I get that. But my issue is that it's a love card. Even when it's talking about a platonic relationship, there's some form of love involved. People will sacrifice for friends, they'll endanger themselves protecting friends. I'm not sure fish do that. Their brains are pretty primitive and it's not something they're known for. They seem like they're hardwired to do basic things like find food and make babies, and not much else. Some other water creatures definitely are capable of it, though - dolphins, whales, etc.

But I like the drawing. Surely it will fit in this deck someplace!
