Wisdom_Tarot Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 Hello! I am new to tarot reading. I purchased my first deck (Angel Tarot by Radleigh Valentine) about a few months ago and started doing reading for myself (just one card a day) but I had a hard time connecting with the imagery. Maybe it was too complex for my beginner’s mind. So after listening to a podcast recommendation, I decided to purchase the Radiant Rider-Waite Tarot and it has been easier to connect with the imagery to read for myself on a daily basis. Plus, there’s ton of info on the Internet about the meaning of each card which is helpful and useful. I love tarot so much although I feel like it is a life-long learning journey. I hope to someday read for others as a professional reader and in the meantime I enjoy studying each card🙂. I am glad I found this forum. Looking forward to connecting with other readers☺️.
DanielJUK Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 Hi @Wisdom_Tarot welcome to our community There are two reasons that your Angel Tarot didn't connect well with you. The first reason is that we are all different in our tastes and artistic loves. Some decks just won't connect with us! I really recommend always looking for decks that match your tastes and you feel fit with you. Secondly those Angel Tarot Decks and Oracles vary widely in their quality. A lot of those celebrity spiritual people just roll them out for sales and some of those decks are just not good at reading. Famously Angel Deck producer Doreen Virtue made an Angel Tarot that was only positive, but that is useless as a tarot reading deck on situations. Angel decks are controversial in the community. I think there are some good ones if you are into Angels but others are not great for reading. I don't know this deck to say but there is an issue in the genre of them. It's good to start with a fairly traditional tarot deck as a beginner because you will find a lot of advice across the internet for it. So your Radiant RWS is a great choice. You might go back to the Angel Tarot when you understand it more but I think the Angel decks are not easy, they can be quite non-traditional. Finding a deck you really connect with is so important as you learn and get used to each card meaning 🙂 Good luck with your tarot journey ahead
Wisdom_Tarot Posted October 4, 2021 Author Posted October 4, 2021 Hello @DanielJUK, Thank you for the warm welcome and all the advice about choosing decks. I’ll keep them in mind for next time I decide to purchase one. I didn’t know the Angel decks were controversial but I’ll stick to the RWS decks for now 😉. Which ones from the RWS are your favorite decks? I may purchase another one soon and looking for the ones that come in tins. I like the detailed imagery on the Golden Art Nouveau but I am not sure if it comes in a tin. Talk to you soon.
Marina Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Welcome @Wisdom_Tarot! I am sure you will enjoy it here, it's the perfect place to learn Tarot and improve your practice. I really like the good ol' RWS deck, it's not only great for beginners, but it's also a deck that never grows old.
Wisdom_Tarot Posted October 6, 2021 Author Posted October 6, 2021 Thank you @marinaoracles and @joy for the welcome! I am sure I will learn a great deal here😉.

But that's a matter of personal taste, and those don't come in tins. This one does, though, and it's pocket sized AND historic. The backs are reworked, but the card faces are a reproduction of the first RWS: https://www.usgamesinc.com/Smith-Waite-Centennial-Tarot-Deck-in-a-Tin.html
Wisdom_Tarot Posted October 7, 2021 Author Posted October 7, 2021 Hello @katrinka, Thank you for sharing your RWS deck preferences and for the deck suggestion. I will check all of them out🙂.

I thought you might like this recent thread on the forum @Wisdom_Tarot discussing other RWS decks, the thread is here I really love the standard RWS deck with it's colours and also my current fave is the Pamela Coleman Smith RWS, it has bright gorgeous colours and is like the Radiant deck. It's not in a tin though and the card size is bigger than that size. That's my current fave! It might change in 6 months though 🤣 Tarot decks in tins is a relatively new thing and so gradually more and more decks are coming out in that format! If you want a fun, themed RWS for this season, the Halloween Tarot is a lot of fun and in a tin!
