Eric13 Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 I guess Google tracks my every movement on my phone because when I go the app on my phone it has all these interesting news stories to show me from news, music and yes, all kinds of tarot stuff. So, one that came up yesterday for a yearly tarot reading for sagittarius, a one card reading, for me it was the 4 of Wands (I'm getting a lot of Wands lately), reversed. Well, the reader said that the 4oW is actually a good card even reversed. But my issue is, and maybe its just me, how can one card show what a year will be? It was the RWS deck by the way. I just don't think one card, or even two, maybe at least three can show a year. That person does seem to have a regular article in an online news service as well. But wouldn't go to a reader who uses one card to see a year. So, thats my opinion, how about you? Thank you, have a nice day and >>Happy New Year!<<
fire cat pickles Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 I don't believe this, no. If you're going to mix astrology and tarot, why not use a solar return chart and see which tarot cards align with it? (Be sure to use your birth day when casting it.) I got Moon in Libra (2 of Swords) and Venus in Cancer (2 of Cups).
DanielJUK Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 I've moved this thread over to Tarot Talk & Technique as we are talking about techniques rather than discussing the meaning of individual cards. As I'm interested in both areas, I need to explain how Astrology as a business in the media works. Astrologers can make a lot of money (more than readings) by producing regular horoscopes. In a court case in the UK about newspapers a few years ago and their allegedly hacking for stories, it was accidentally revealed in court that one newspaper paid their top astrologer £2million a year to write his horoscope column! That is more than most newspaper editors earn here. This was the top end but it's a lucrative business and so they really want to write columns in newspapers and in online publications, it's a good gig to get for security and then you can do individual readings or write books as a side job. Also horoscopes and astrology is big business right now and they use it to bring people to news portals, so they make sure it's part of Googles and Apples fast link news services. They are used to draw you into the site (or newspaper) for hits and then you might read more stories and look at adverts. Some of the methods for the generalised horoscopes are just really poor astrology, if you study it properly. A paragraph on generalised sun signs for the 12 signs is really not going to be accurate. Some media sources even just pay some junior reporter to make them up (this was also revealed in the past here). The new modern twist on this is to make it a bit more interesting and so people add tarot cards to the readings. The better horoscope readings split each month into 3 decans and depending on when your birthday is, you get a slightly more accurate reading. You get 36 possibilities rather than 12. I find the added tarot cards usually totally meaningless in this context and have no link to the reading or astrology transit data. We are in the field of really generalised readings here. If you can take something from it good but on accuracy I am really sceptical and I love predictions as my divination real interest! If you took one card out of your shuffled deck as a "theme" or "overview" of the year, I think you could get something meaningful for you. You can get a lot from one card. I have looked at an overview of the year like that. People also like to calculate their tarot card of the year using numerology. But this site is a general draw, so all Sagittarians are going to have a 4 of Wands year? Some of these sites only use cards that make you feel good, I have complained here before about one astrology site which doesn't use any negative cards in these horoscopes 🙂 . So take from the readings whatever helps your life 🙂 But there is a huge difference from drawing your own one card or someone drawing one for you, a "personalised" reading, to just pulling the cards in your write up and it representing 20 million people in the world or something. If I do read horoscope type readings I look at my Sun sign, Moon sign and Ascendant / Rising Sign. Especially for the next year, it's probably better to look at your Rising Sign for what's coming up on your horizon anyway.
Eric13 Posted December 30, 2021 Author Posted December 30, 2021 Brilliant!^ And yes, these astro readings are everywhere now. Makes total sense they've used these things just to pull people in. @fire cat pickles, well said also. It brings out more details.

This reminds me an older thread about a reader who removed the Death card from her reading decks because this was making her uncomfortable 😁 I think it was that and that my memory doesn't play tricks on me. Well, regarding this topic, it doesn't look serious to do that with astrology, and this contributes to further belittle it among the public. Edited December 30, 2021 by Decan
DanielJUK Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 you remembered right @Decan 🙂 It was Death!

Hi, Decan. Fortunately I was looking at using a solar return chart to guide a tarot reading not an astrology reading 😀 It gave me an idea to do a personal reading later that I'll post elsewhere. (As a note, I mistakenly left my astrodienst on "sidereal" not "tropical" and so have four cards, not two for the year. Don't want to go too far off topic—will post a link to the reading later!) Interesting! In newspapers, written by people who don't know astrology and remove bad cards from Tarot, it doesn't look serious (possibly these are computer generated texts), but by someone like you who knows both Astrology and Tarot it's different and likely you'll be able to notice a particular pattern that could be highlighted during the studied timeframe! Thank you, but I'm no expert in astrology... We've just now got internet back here. I'll be back shortly elsewhere but linking back here.
