Happy New Year - First Thread of 2022!    Happy New Year to all of us DOTW folks.

Happy New Year GIF

I'll be starting with the Surrealist Tarot again, because it didn't get touched last week what with all the....stuff, including the Snowpocalypse here in the Pacific West part of the Americas.

Note, I am not commenting on anything to do with this year, at all.  LOL.

I love the forest of Enchantment I’ve already done a month long study on it

Mystic  mushroom sounds interesting never heard of it

Happy New Year hoping for a better one in 2022!

As promised, here I am!  I'm all new to this.  And full of questions, of course.

Do we chat about our decks here and post readings with our deck of the week in personal readings?

Our weeks start on Saturdays?

What else do I need to know?

Thanks for having me!

Welcome, @Rachelcat!❤️ We are a group with few if any rules.😊 I usually post one reading each week, some people just talk about the deck or decks they're using, and some folks post just a few pictures. Other people just sign up without posting anything else. It's all good!

And just start when you can.

I've had my eye on the F of E for a while, and look forward to using it! The Mystic Mushrooms deck and book came from an Etsy seller.

Welcome to the DOTW group @Wyrdkiss and @Rachelcat!

What Bodhiseed said, Rachelcat, LOL.   We don't have a lot of rules.

You don't have to start your new deck on Saturday if you like to start on a different day.  You can switch when you like if your deck turns out to be a dud, or you get tired of it, or a new deck comes in the mail and..shiny!    Those are the only other things I can think of.

Sometimes I don't check this thread often after Monday, so it might take me a day or so to put you on the list if you sign up after Monday.   🙂

Thanks for the welcome and the info!  I like a group with few rules!  I'll play it by ear until I get the hang of it!

My son gave me the Modern Witch Tarot Deck for Christmas, so I'm going to go with that.  A RWS clone would not be my choice, but who knows?  It might change my mind over a week!

(And I have lots of newly arrived decks I'm saving up for future weeks!)  See you here tomorrow!

Thankyou so much @VGimlet. I appreciate the low - key, flexible approach. With that said, do we post our readings and observations in this thread, or  a separate one?  Thanks.

Hi. Guys. Happy New Year!!! It's great to see you all.

Oh, good a group with few rules.  I'm not sure I even ever do a reading a week, but I have a slew of decks I'd like to get to know better and I'm interested to know what others are using these days, as well so I thought I'd join in and see what it's all about.

I've most recently acquired the Tarot of the Abyss by Ann Tourian.  It's a black and white deck and I've fallen in love with the images so I thought I would start with that.

Posted

@Disa, I love Tourian's deck, and black and white decks aren't usually my thing. I actually used it a couple of weeks in a row because I liked it so much I wasn't ready to change. Welcome to the group! ❤️

@Bodhiseed TY for the Welcome.

I know what you mean, I'm not sure black and white decks are usually my thing, either-though I do love the Victoria Regina I don't read with it much.  I think this Abyss looks like one I will easily read with.  The only other black and white deck I have is the Hermetic and I don't really read with that one, either. 🤷‍♀️

Happy 2022 everyone!

My deck of the week will again be the crow Tarot!

Happy New Year to you 🥳  Oh how I love the Victorian Romantic deck!  I just wanted to say that.  It's one of my top 5 go to's when reading for others.

welcome to the new faces! Rachelcat I am SO happy to see you here on the forum! Still in DC?

I just put up my new calendar, this is my 723 week of using my decks in rotation. According to google that is 13.8658 years.

It is part of good financial stewardship, early on I bought every deck I saw (ebay) flicked through them, and shelved them. Shudder 🙂 It is also my way of weeding out what has been identified as mob mentality purchase, lost any personal reference and preference, and keeping the total number to a low roar.

My word of the year for 2022 is Equimanity.

My deck this week is 5¢ Tarot

Well I did my first spread with the Tarot of the Abyss. This is a spread I found posted on instagram yesterday. I wasn't sure if we are to post full readings in this space or not, so I've just included a picture of the cards I drew for the spread, the spread positions, and the cards drawn. I placed the cards from left to right in 3 rows because my table is tiny.

I thought I had shuffled the new deck extensively yesterday and again today before drawing the cards, but once I drew them I wondered if I'd shuffled them enough.  There are a lot of swords and pentacles in a row, but the cards seem to match the positions for me perfectly.

Of course the first card drawn is the only one I looked at when I first got this deck and didn't love it because the image of the person's face is not actually on their head!  The blank face gave me a start!

So, here are the spread positions and the card I drew for each:

1. Something positive: 2 of Swords

2. Something negative: Ace of Swords

3. Goal to strive for: The World

4. The lesson: The Awakening(Judgement)

5. Area of Self Growth: 5 of Swords

6. Where I am now: 4 of swords

7. Relationships: 4 of Pentacles

8. Career: 3 of Pentacles

9. Health: 2 of Pentacles

10. Spirituality: Ace of Pentacles

11. Overall Energy: The Empress

So far I am loving this deck!!!  When I laid the cards all out in the spread I just found them beautiful.  I haven't even written out the interpretations, but I like the messages.

I will most likely do a daily draw with a magical dog Tarot If I have time on Tuesday I’ll do a spread with it. I’m on the fence about keeping this one, because some heavy changes are happening in my life and I’ll probably need the cash, so I’m going  to reevaluate it By using it for this week.

card for today birth guardian

Just shows a typical workday having task and completing them.

Unsure how to put pictures on here the ones I have on my phone.

What a nice spread, @Disa! The cards seem to read loud and clear from this deck, and your reading is very cohesive.

I hope you can make the right decision about your deck, @Belinda22.

I am getting better acquainted with the Paulina Tarot this week. Even though it is heavily RWS-based, and I have worked with it quite a bit in the past, it always feels a bit “slippery,” like I don’t know it very well. An unusual feeling.

Right now, I am studying the Paulina court cards! The Pentacles suit is so atypical, and I think this is a sticking point for me. Every member of the Pentacles suit seems less grounded and more cunning than I am used to. Pentacles also tends to be my favorite suit (though I like them all). But I do like a deck that makes me think differently about tarot tropes. 🙂

Modern Witch Tarot Deck

This is a newish deck by Lisa Sterle from Liminal 11.  As I mentioned, it’s a modernized RWS clone, not something I would pick for myself, but my son gave it to me for Christmas.  So I’m going to try it out!

The blurb on the box mentions fashion, and I was taken by some of the sartorial choices included!  It looks like all the people in the cards are girls or women.  Which isn’t a problem for me, but it might be if I were reading for others with it?

I like the little hardback book, but I think it’s odd that it’s not the size of the cards, so that the cards are small for the box and kind of bang around in there.  I’ve seen worse packaging though!

I absolutely adore the extra card, which is the illustration of the Ten of Swords with the legend, “Everything is fine.”  So funny yet so real.  And there’s another extra “encouragement” card, which is nice.

Ok, a good wash and shuffle, and on to the interview!

What is your most important characteristic?  Ace of Pentacles

Presentation is everything!  We’ve seen plenty of the RWS.  The important thing about this deck is where it differs from the RWS.  It is very conscious of being an artifact, including the packaging, booklet, etc.  At first I was taken aback by the pointy black fingernails, but I think that’s just fashion, another Ace of Pentacles thing.

What is your greatest strength?  Two of Swords

It offers a choice that is both traditional and new.  It simultaneously upholds and breaks down the tarot intellectual status quo.  Why is the moon waning?

What is your greatest weakness?  Seven of Cups

Another card of choice!  It’s strength is also a weakness.  If we want something like the old way, we’ll buy that.  If we want something new, we’ll buy something really different!  Is that a witch’s hat?  I like the updated choices in the cups, including the “tempest in a teacup”!

What can I learn from you?  Five of Wands

I can learn about conflict and struggle.  I don’t know why I’m saying this from looking at the illustration, but sometimes the struggle is with yourself.  Wait a minute!  Is this conflict between the maskers and anit-maskers?!

What is the best way for me to learn it?  XI. Justice

I can learn about conflict by remembering that fair is fair, and it’s never (almost never?) right to win at all costs.  If you defeat your opponent by cheating or doing something wrong, you’re defeating yourself, too.  I love her equal sign on her shirt.  She isn’t blindfolded but she can still treat everyone equally before the law.

What will be the outcome of our work together?  VII. The Chariot

I will enjoy the ride and then move on to other things.  It looks like a cloud of dust behind her.  She just screeched to a brief halt to give her sphynxes a rest.  Then it’s back on the road again!

I hope you enjoyed this peek.  I’ll be back tomorrow with a new moon reading.  (I hope the photos turn out ok.  Still learning how to post here!)
