Wyrdkiss Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 Greetings all. This week I'm focusing on my often-used Darkness of Light Tarot.

I've changed my focus -- I knew I was overlooking something. I want to return to my Savage Tarot by Michelle X instead. The Savage Tarot II, an intense deck by artist Michelle X. It's controversy centers around accusations of a lack of tarot research / knowledge by the creator. "Shock Value" and nothing more, one person told me. For example, the Priestess is confined in a jail or mental institution. Lots of controversy with that one. My pull today: the Four of Pentacles; reflecting to me stability, and established security in the foundation of the physical world. Both women hold their own but touch one another as a united, powerful force.
sweeneyish Posted February 25, 2022 Posted February 25, 2022 Lots of fun decks this week. @Wyrdkiss that deck looks intense! Interested to see more of it. I've continued my joyful time with the wild unknown. A celtic cross I did yesterday, that really hit home:
vulprix Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 Hi all 🙂 I’ll be using the Kirchner Besançon this week!
Rachelcat Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 (edited) Hi, all! Hope everyone is doing well! @Madame Squee, I hope you enjoy the Standard Playing Card! It was um, interesting! for me. This week I’m going to be using the Double Major Tarot Deck. The subtitle on the box is “Finally ‘The Fool’ falls off the cliff.” So there’s that. It’s a Korean deck by Golden Age d/b/a Prime Muse. It was an Amazon recommendation to me. First thing is, it’s not just two sets of majors; it also includes two sets of courts! (So 76 cards, if my math serves me.) It’s a borderless RWS clone with an aged look. It has gold edges, a nice two part box, and a booklet in Korean and English. The booklet labels the cards “original” and “second” for the alternative cards. After a look-through of the deck and brief read-through of the booklet, looks like there isn’t an overarching idea of how the seconds differ from their originals. Some are after scenes, like the Fool falling, many figures that are originally seated are standing, some of the knights have lost their horses, etc. So it’s unlike the Twin Tarot Oracle, which has specifically “light” and “dark” versions of each major, and more like the After Tarot, visualizing what else could happen in a RWS tarot scene. Wash and shuffle and interview! Most important characteristic: Knight of Wands The deck is a moving along of the RWS tarot. Someone has added energy into the status quo and changed it up. With energy (wands) and cleverness (knight air). Strength: Second King of Cups The deck is good at showing the card figures as real people. The king is not just a representation of an idea, but a man who can be emotionally overwhelmed for a moment but needs to stay strong for his subjects. Weakness: Second High Priestess Both Priestesses have N for night and D for day on their pillars. I don’t really see this as a weakness, but . . . The priestess has left behind the symbols of her authority, her crown and scroll, and is leaving the staid world where she was teaching to discover the real world, where we are all always learning. Maybe it’s a weakness because the deck is in a way debunking itself. It’s not learning or esotericism or tarot that has real meaning, it’s the real world out there. What deck can teach me: Second Knight of Wands We get both in one reading! It can teach me that when you’re searching for something, you can lose your way and go off on a tangent. And even lose the motivation and energy that started the search in the first place. How I can learn it: Page of Wands Keep my eyes on my motivation instead. I don’t have to ride off into the sunset to find it. It’s right beside me! Outcome of our work together: Second Hierophant This continues the debunking of the Priestess. The pope’s followers have left him, and he’s there alone to consider if he really believes and follows what he’s been teaching to others all along. So the outcome will be I will become more or less disillusioned with the more woo aspects of tarot? We’ll see! Well, that was interesting, and not quite what I expected! I look forward to more with this deck. Have a happy weekend! Edited February 27, 2022 by Rachelcat
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 that king of cups looks like he is vomiting to me, or giving a shout out to a mermaid 😉 Prisma Visions for me this week, thank you VG
Mi-Shell Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 Continuing with my Plant/ Herb explorations I will this week compare the Hedgewitch Botanical Oracle with the Druid Plant Oracle. I am curious how much these 2 overlap and where they differ. Have a great week, everyone!: 🙂

Wyrdkiss Posted February 27, 2022 Posted February 27, 2022 (edited) Greetings. Since I primarily work with the Thoth with clients, I am used to each card containing the essence of duality. The most benign and beautiful have the element of being both ill-dignified and also degrading within the ebb and flow of the suites and potential hardships of the Major Arcana as well. In that respect, the savage Tarot's design, "makes sense." Yet there is immense beauty in the Thoth. It is far more subjective in this pack. I see some accuracy here with this card, albeit definitely the problematic nature of our friend the page of Wands: Pages can, in every negative respect, "shoot first" and admire the rush of excitement. Here she licks the impulsive essence of her action, the rush so to speak This deck uses a lot of firearms in its depictions, sometimes feeling more like a prop and attention grabber than appropriate symbolism. But this card is strong, IMO, in it's illustration of the most impulsive and damaging of the fire personality modes. I see ego, and lack of safety here. The knights charge fourth at least with competence. This Page is naive. Share your thoughts... Edited February 27, 2022 by Wyrdkiss
Madame Squee Posted February 27, 2022 Posted February 27, 2022 The book for the Standard Playing Card Tarot was sold out when my daughter ordered the deck for my birthday. But it didn't matter, because I had already planned to read with playing card meanings (mostly derived from the Playing Card Oracles by Ana Cortez) and then see how the majors fit into that framework. (Cavaliers retain tarot meanings.) I laid out a line of 5 cards to give it a try. (8) Strength ~ 8 of Spades ~ (6) Lovers ~ 5 of Clubs ~ (20) Judgement Nice. We have three majors. My feeling is that this reading pertains to someone who is eager to choose a new path regarding their work, a partnership or a new enterprise. And just looking at it, I think the two pips provide the key to the answer. They connect the majors. Spades relate to labor, and the 8 of Spades indicates bad luck, bad timing, a stalemate. Clubs relate to plans, and the 5 of Clubs indicates confusion and chaos. At the beginning of the spread, Strength shows that the sitter feels determined, powerful and prepared. However, the 8 of Spades stymies their ability to follow through. In the Lovers, the hope of making a favorable choice is overwhelmed by the negativity seen in both the 8 of Spades and the 5 of Clubs. Finally, Judgement feels cloudy and uncertain in the shadow of the 5 of Clubs. Looking at all of this, I would feel safe in saying, don't do it. Now is not the time, this is not the plan. Thank goodness, there is a bright spot in this bleakness: Judgement faces the future -- promising an awakening, renewal and new opportunities!! PS: I always turn the deck over to look at the bottom card. It's the Hanged Man. Wait, look at things differently, sacrifice for something better. Okay!

Bodhiseed Posted February 27, 2022 Posted February 27, 2022 I love looking at all the decks on this thread, wondering if I could read with them and enjoying your take on them! @Wyrdkiss, that Page definitely underscores the excitement but also the danger of impulsiveness!
Bodhiseed Posted February 27, 2022 Posted February 27, 2022 This week I'll be using the Albano Waite Tarot, a recolored version of the RWS created by Frankie Albano and published by U.S. Games. The oracle deck I'll be pairing with it is the Rumi Cards, created by Eryk Hanut and Michelle Wetherbee and published by Tuttle Publishing. Today's draws are the Fool and 'Don't Despair:' What people have the capacity to choose, they have the ability to change. ~ Madeleine Albright I think the Fool often gets a bad rap. Yes, he has little experience in the world, but that bright yellow background is a hint that he's aware moving forward has unknown risks. Now the Fool could plant himself on that edge and curl up in a neurotic ball, imagining every worse case scenario. However, he understands that just staying on that cliff is to choose to be stuck. He doesn't want to abdicate his personal choice and pretend that life has left him no options. There are always options, though not all are fun and pleasurable. His landing won't be smooth or easy, but it will be an exciting adventure. The Rumi card is a reminder of impermanence, suggesting that the flow of life is dynamic and ever changing. Hard choices might bring hard landings, but even those won't remain the same unless we give up our personal agency.
Wyrdkiss Posted February 27, 2022 Posted February 27, 2022 Yes @Bodhiseed, some of the cards are really cool. I had the original limited First edition -- with a hand-signed, woven booklet that was rad. But when the demand was highest I sold it for $260 to someone is South America. I couldn't pass on the demand. Later it went to re-print, and picked it up for my collection much more reasonably. I"ll post some of the weakest cards later, for those who are curious.
sweeneyish Posted February 28, 2022 Posted February 28, 2022 @Bodhiseed I have a similar feeling about the Fool. He is pure, joyful, dancing - In many ways, we could only hope to be like him. Of course, his attitude can be a warning, but I think in today’s world we could all use a little more Fool energy. @Wyrdkiss That’s an interesting take on the Page of Wands. I’m also thinking Air of Fire - the hot air and the ignition of fire in the barrel of the gun. It’s also like that impulsive, dreamer energy has gone over the edge to mania - A dangerous, manic energy. A few spreads I did today:
Madame Squee Posted February 28, 2022 Posted February 28, 2022 @Rachelcat I've put the Double Major Tarot Deck on my amazon list. I'm drawn to the colors and style of art.
