What Are Your Go To Reading Decks Right Now?

The title says it all! I’d love to hear what decks you find yourself going to again and again for readings (for yourself, and others).

I’m deeply in love with the Deviant Moon Tarot right now, and find myself reaching for it again and again for myself, and for people who I don’t think will be spooked by it.

The Light Seer’s Tarot always gives me solid readings, and I love how it lends itself to intuitive reading (much like the Deviant Moon). And generally, I find it suits almost anyone who comes for a reading.

For really fun, light readings, I love Mystical Medleys. It also is so close to a traditional RWS that it’s a nice tool for reinforcing that knowledge.

Looking forward to hearing about everyone’s

go-tos!

For personal reading purposes I try to rotate what's on my desk every couple of weeks, but my Hello Tarot continues to be my personal go to. I've had it for so long it feels like a familiar friend I can count on to be straight with me.

For others or for writing I tend to pick a deck to match them, or I use one of the Desk Decks. Right now that's Interim Tarot, Blood Moon Tarot, Tarot of Semitones, and Divine Diversity. Blood Moon is a bit off the beaten path so it's almost entirely for writing or meditation; the others I can use for others or when I want to try something new.

I love Deviant Moon; it was my go to for several months a couple years ago. The imagery and sharp approach to the meanings really resonated at the time.

I've moved this thread over to the Tarot Decks section as it's the perfect place for discussing decks and deck favourites and using them 🙂 :78496:

I thought I was the only one who had that one! I'm a sucker for 1930's aesthetic. And yes, it's a fun deck.

There's a lot of decks I love. But what's on the table right now are the Tarot Fortune Cards (Thomson-Leng), and Nigel Jackson's Rose Tarot. There's also a LS reproduction Piatnik Lenormand, an Il Meneghello Sibilla 1850, and Jake Richard's Conjure Cards. And I keep a RWS handy for discussion purposes, an Albano. If I notice one of those decks gathering dust, I'll switch it out for something else.

Thanks @DanielJUK🙏!

@Niobium Wow, those are some beautiful decks. I love that Blood Moon Tarot -Gorgeous.

@katrinka It’s such a cool deck! Something about that rubber hose animation style really lends itself to the esoteric.

Wow, I'm so glad you shared this with me. Bizarre, intriguing, and a little terrifying! Also super inspired me to keep picking up my Mystical Medleys deck!

My main reading deck is The Alice Tarot (by Magic Realist Press).  But often times I will reach for other decks depending on the subject of the reading.  Other favorite reading decks include:  Fantastic Menagerie, Victorian Romantic, Bohemian Gothic, Deviant Moon, Fey Tarot, Tarot of the Sweet Twilight, Tarot of the Sidhe, Green Witch, Victorian Fairy Tarot, Forest of Enchantment, Joie de Vivre, Magical Dogs Tarot, and Mermaid Tarot (Leeza Robertson), and Cosmic Tribe.

I was tired of seeing them collect dust as I added new decks so I started doing a deck of the month project about three years ago where I spend a month with a different deck.  Granted I do not use it exclusively if there is a reading I feel I would like to do with another deck, or my mood has me gravitate towards another deck, or if I am reading for someone else and they have chosen a particular deck they would like me to read for them with, but I do try to do multiple readings with it to get a really good feel for the deck, if it has a companion book I read it and try out the spreads in the book with the deck.  I journal the decks and at the end of the month I write a deck review.  This has really opened up the variety of decks I am very comfortable reading with, but The Alice is (and probably always will be)  my main go to deck.  Not to mention I am really enjoying my deck collection now that I put it to good use 😛

Well, call me old fashioned, simple or made even orange, ut never collect, anyway, I stick with the good 'ole RWS. between the road meanings and pictures that deck has become reliable to me.

That's a great list, @Jewel! Very inspiring. Lots of fairy-dream realness. I love it. That Fantastic Menagerie deck looks amazing. I like your strategy with decks. I've been doing something similar as well - trying to focus in particular on one deck, using the companion book/LWB/spreads to really get a feel for it. It's amazing how each deck has it's own feeling and language.

Nothing wrong with keeping it simple and reliable, @Eric13!

It's better in some ways. When I started, all that was available to me was RWS. If I had to start now, I'm not sure I'd ever learn. Too much distraction, too many decks, too many books, and the internet...oh, the internet. About 10% of all that is quality, but the rest? I'm grateful for the solid foundation I got before all that happened.

And yes. Baba decks are sumptious, and they read true. It may be time to get one out... 😁

My daily draw deck is the Witches Wisdom Tarot, I love this deck so much.

As for doing more expansive readings, it's usually the Light Seer's Tarot, Wildwood Tarot, or the Wild Unknown Animal Spirit oracle for me at the moment.

For my own personal readings I swap decks every day in a specific cycle. Readings for others I will actually let them choose the deck they seem to resonate with the most.

For my personal readings, I'm likely to grab my pocket Universal Waite.  For readings I do for others it really just depends ...on my mood?  on theirs?  on whatever is hanging in the air at the time?  So it might be anything.  Or maybe it will be a Lenormand or Conjure cards kind of day.  I have been enjoying the use of my Tarot Decoratif quite a bit.  Come to think of it, though none of his decks appealed to me years ago, I've come to appreciate a lot of Marchetti's decks lately.

So many decks...so hard to choose a favorite...

I’ve recently received the Shuffle Tarot and love it! It’s similar to RWS but the images are shuffled among both majors and minors. It’s really helped me to focus on the image rather than just memorizing key words.

Such a fun, eclectic variety of decks everyone is getting use out of it. And also interesting to see how few trends there are - I guess it shows what an incredible variety of Tarot decks we have available to us now.

I’m currently reaching for the Nameless tarot by @gregory. It’s such a great reader. I have paired it with my favorite Oracle deck - Inner compass Oracle (by Heather Hoeps) -and they work brilliantly together. I’d say it is one of my all time favorite combos!

I know these decks aren’t super common so here are some links if you want to see what I’m talking about!

My Cartamundi/Brepols Lenormand is always out on my reading table, and I have a mini Dondorf within reach when I'm elsewhere--those get the most use, almost daily.

The 1JJ Swiss (majors only) is my go-to Tarot deck, but right now, I have a Thoth Tarot, Hanson Roberts Tarot, and Sibilla Indovina out and on standby in my bookcase.

I may regret admitting this considering some of the nonsense I said in a recent spread about Lo Scarabeo decks, but I just acquired the Romantic Tarot 😳 and have been enjoying it more than I expected. There are a surprising number of details and a lot of figures per card that lend themselves nicely to reading about day-to-day situations, and I actually find the meanings in the LWB helpful. 😱  I'll go hide now. 😂

My knock-off Modern Witch is the east to use quickly (I didnt know it was a knock off when I bought it and I don't advise getting knock offs but I wasn't able to return it). The size is perfect and the box is like a playing card box and only slightly larger than regular playing cards, which the same thickness.

However, my Light Seers deck and the guidebook are the easiest to interpret on my own. I love that the guidebook gives key words for upright and reversal then give a over all card description.

My personal reading deck (that I use only for myself) is the Alchemy England 1977. But I also use other decks for personal readings; if reading for others, it depends, but often the Mystical Tarot or Ciro Marchetti's Legacy of the Divine, or a Marseille tarot.

We won’t disown you 😁 I think we all probably have one or more decks that we have mixed feelings about liking (come to think about it, that’s probably a really good topic for discussion here on the forum, should anyone like to start a thread about it.. 😊

Lo Scarabeo have good stuff and bad stuff. They would agree with you ! No worries. The ones that have a proper book with them - in kit form - are probably their best offerings !

Thank you for the reassurances. 😊 Nine times out of ten I stick with the same few decks (see above), but sometimes I feel like a need a diversion, to exercise a different "muscle" in my head. Time will tell how long the infatuation lasts!
