The Ostara is an all-time favorite of mine, @AJ-ish/Sharyn. So glad that you are using it 🙂 I have used it a few times this past week myself.

I’ll be using the Deviant Moon this week thanks to the encouragement and community of @sweeneyish!

Oh that triumphi blue is gorgeous!

Totally @toj - The composition on that hanged man is striking!

It is a beautiful deck, eh @Wyrdkiss? Even better, it glows in black light! I’m going to buy a black light bulb today, so I’ll take a picture with it tonight to show the glowing coolness.

My spread from this morning - Thanks to some help from @vulprix, I had a better composition of the deck, and man, I really liked and resonated with this reading this morning!

I appreciate and feel the isolation demonstrated in that Hanged Man card @toj.  How are you feeling about the deck overall?

Black lights are fun @sweeneyish 🙂

I feel immensely connected to my new deck, The Enchanted Forest.  I was seeking a replacement for the Wildwood, and this may be it.

( @VGimlet please note the correct name of my deck this week. I typed it wrong in the post above).

Pack felt natural and eager to shuffle in my hands, just immediately ready to work.

My first reading focused on the weekend and my state of mind as of late. I received first the 4 of pentacles (equivalent). This was indicative of my

decent into materialism lately, as an escape and a sign of my disconnection from my inner self.

The second card really hit home, as the guidebook was eloquent and so well written about letting oneself slip into a realm of

illusion, not moving on from past pain.

I'm not thrilled with the name changes for the minor arcana, but they work and fit at least.

The guidebook is excellent, and has a strong emphasis on numbers as well.  Working with THOTH as my first deck and still my favorite deck

the meaning and impact of numbers and their progression in the minor arcana is often overlooked or dismissed in RWS decks.

One can tell the author and creator of this deck knows her stuff.

More soon.

@Wyrdkiss, the Enchanted Forest gives me a 'coming home' feeling when I use it. 🙂

I like that deck too. The Anna K Tarot was the one that made me feel the most like that.

Last night I purchased a new black bag for The Black Tarot, which I just received this week. So far I have only done the one reading with it. Some images are like the hanged man and are really unique and others like the eight of swords are different but not to the point of distraction. Meaning nothing in there I hate that I remember. Even the edges are black with this one. It feels comfortable to use even though different from any other deck I have.

What a great variety this week!  I look forward to seeing them all!

This week I’ll be using the Housewives Tarot.  A different kind of modern:  mid-century modern!  I’ve had this deck since it came out in 2004 and never used it (I don’t think).  So I guess now’s the time!  It’s obviously intended to be humorous, but from what I’ve seen, it looks like it also works as tarot.  (Made by the same folks who made the Zombie Tarot, with the same aesthetic.)

Check the kitschy recipe box, complete with dividers with recipes on the back!  There are cute spreads in the booklet:  the Virgin (one card!), the Neapolitan (ppf), the Dinette (kinda Celtic cross), the Clothesline (row of 7 cards), and the Martini (a 13 carder).

Let’s give it a spin!  Wash, shuffle, and interview!

Saturday2.thumb.jpg.3f83167188d32cddd15800b717352878.jpg

Most important characteristic:  Knight of Pentacles

The background is help wanted ads, and he’s doing typical male household work, mowing.  This deck can be a workhorse.  It’s light touch is part of why it works for various kinds of readings.

Strength:  Four of Cups

She knows her limit, and that’s three drinks.  She is strong in rejecting number 4.  The deck is good at addressing personal motivation and autonomy.

Weakness:  Two of Cups

Although this is a cute couple and a good depiction of an equal relationship (they even both have bow ties), the deck isn’t that good with relationship readings.

What I can learn from the deck:  Ten of Swords

I had one of those pincushions when I was a kid!  It’s make to look like a tomato (mine wasn’t plaid).  I can learn there are more different ways to visualize tarot that I have, even though as a collector, I’ve visualized a lot of ways!  I’ll learn to not stay with preconceived ideas.

How can I learn it?  Seven of Swords

7 Swords as gossip really works.  I can learn to get a different view of things by thinking for myself, not always listening to others’ ideas and opinions, which can cover for ulterior motives.

Outcome of our work together:  Six of Swords

And she’s out of here!  With her hatbox and travel purse.  I wonder why they’re switchblades?  I will gain new, interesting, helpful ideas from working with the deck, and maybe leave some of my tired old ideas behind.

No majors and no wands.  So we’ll have plenty to discover in the week ahead!  Have a great weekend everyone!

Here are some more cards I like from this deck.

This week I'll be using the Llewellyn Tarot, created by Anna-Marie Ferguson and published by Llewellyn. I'll also be using the Beasts of Albion, an oracle deck created by Miranda Gray and published by Aquarian. Today's draws are the Four of Pentacles and the Lion:

AVvXsEiOrRpaux8WS2_Lh4yMc1h4eD1425jsffW2IZ80YJFePktAgwsyxA4L6zuLbGqUN-SDuevwCTN-R5YDfGtV9G59tmy32MrSb7YY2j6eipjbguoDroGQJqc_dL5D6283I8ISYIxciDJJkVCBUbnQdNFH2eNrnc779vR78TVCWzsvVnsEpf2xh7A3j2AK=s320AVvXsEjl7Y_D3hOqOlHeFTNVzZrwccCWpja2fyjgSpmpxp19XaxZgNf6m889tvT0M9FdOznaWobdvfcQYjIlX0UV1BcMowoK6KHGBzPt8t_G-EQ1HLW3qdagYVS0NMfDVPMATwjFfBTptDK3Tfe-A_1ak1iNUcjdubnr2xdf4ZrarkYIHveOQb2Bv9sJgGS4=s320

I often think of the Four of Pentacles as the Spending Sabbatical card. There are many things we can 'spend' - time, energy (health), and money. Such a pause is a practice in prudently using our personal resources. To Albion (ancient Britain), tales of lions seemed just as extraordinary as those of unicorns and dragons. The Lion soon became a symbol of courage, strength and guardianship, especially in the sense of self-sovereignty. It's ironic how many enablers seem to magically appear when a person decides they want to limit ____ (fill in the blank). However, as David Cain encourages, we can guard ourselves by training to replace a reflexive action with a more conscious and empowering one. He lists several examples of mindful consideration: in rock climbing, when you want to pull with your arms, try pushing with your legs; in chess, when you see a good move and you want to make it, try looking for a better one first. "That’s what all training amounts to, as far as I can tell — conditioning ourselves to take a more effective action at a certain moment than the impulsive one we start out doing."

Wow, such an array of fun decks this week!

@Bodhiseed, I love how well you pair your oracle and Tarot decks - Colour, theme, feeling - they work so well together.

@toj Some more striking cards - Love that Chariot.

@Wyrdkiss Very cool to hear what a positive effect the deck is having on you. This one always seems to be near the top of people’s lists, so I’m interested to see it in action. I’m generally irked when the suits are dramatically changed, too. The deck is beautiful, though!

@Rachelcat I love the tongue in cheek

vibe of those 50s style images. Very fun!

A couple spreads to share here. I did the Lunatic Spread from the Deviant Moon with the Della Luna, under black light. A little hard

to see the effect, but it was cool.

And my three card spread this morning, which includes the alternate version of the Star (one of my favourite cards) that comes

with the Deluxe deck. I did an intuitive three card spread this morning, without placements - Past/Present/Future isn’t doing it for me lately. I really liked the results of this open three card spread to look at the day ahead.

@Bodhiseed, Beasts of Albion!  I had that one long ago near the beginning of my tarot life.  I saw that lion and had all the nostalgic feels!  It was replaced in my collection with lots of other animal decks, but not replaced in my heart, I guess!

Posted

@sweeneyish and @Rachelcat, I've had these two paired for so many years that I can't imagine using one without the other.

Unusual decks, mysterious decks, beautiful decks, and decks with humor - our group is using a great collection this week!

Posted

@Amberjune, I'm curious about the Obsidian Oracle, particularly the 'double' cards (snake/lemongrass, mushroom/acorn, hawk, green fluorite, etc.).

Posted

@Bodhiseed thanks for sharing your thoughts on the Forest of Enchantment, the effect it has on you.

@sweeneyish I LOVE the blacklight effect.  Makes me want to use that deck under one for Halloween October readings. Also brings back memories, I had one like it years ago.

OK, this deck is taking me to immensely personal and internal space, and I'm grateful for that. I also am finding that I don't mind the suite name changes -- because now the deck isn't limited in imagery to always including, for example, swords. It instead allows it to fully tell a story unfettered by required symbols.

Here is my reading tonight. On the left, the first card I drew, was what I must do to get over the emotional space I am in, to integrate and process and grieve.  Look inward, honestly, and avoid distractions, was the message. In essence, it is time to get to work on becoming more aware of every facet of the situation, and how I contributed to it.

Because facing sorrow is on the menu in this step of my personal life;  the next card position I determined would answer the question "after I integrate and do this work, what is next...?"  I received the 6 of Boons, which is discs.  This really moved me, as the book states paraphrased: "Something made this woman run from her home ... there is no way to get back -- even if she wanted to, and no path forward that she can see.... not knowing if she will wake again (and not really caring either way), she curls up in the cold earth and surrenders to exhaustion and despair.  The quiet patter of paws on snow sifts into her dreams. Seeing her dire need, a colony of rabbits blanket her with love.  There will be trials to overcome when she awakes, but she will make it through the night."

I'm still sorting the reaction I had to this.

I agree, @Wyrdkiss - Perfect for Halloween!

And thank you for sharing your personal journey with this deck - it sounds like it‘s having a powerful impact.

My reading this morning - another super happy one from the Trionfi Della Luna. And another of my favourite Tarot cards, the Moon, and this may be my favourite depiction of the Moon. There is something so beautiful and dreamy about it.

And just to show the deck, some readings I did for others yesterday with Mildred Payne’s Secret Oracle. It’s an incredibly deep and flexible deck - I’m having a lot of fun with it.
