He only says it's the third edition, no details. So maybe just like the second edition?

Probably, yes!

Here are two images of the Madenié Bateleur. The image on the left is from the AT website (1st edition). The image on the left is the 2nd edition from Tarot Heritage.

I doubt he would move backward and reuse the 1st edition as a template for the 3rd. That wouldn't make much sense.

I quietly want a Madenie deck, no hurry there at all as I have so many things to learn. But I know I want one. Can you please advise whether it will be better to buy one from Yves or from https://thecartomancer.bigcartel? Which ones are better quality? I am a bit confused by the shipping to the US charged by Cartomancy - I thought they were in the US and quoted my cousin's address in Delaware - why $40? Am I missing something? It will be logistically more difficult for me to buy a deck from France but it can be done, I only need to make a decision. Thank you!

I only own the Yves version, but I never bought his decks directly from France. In the past (not sure if this is the case still), a small number of his newly released decks were sold through other places. So I bought them from a Scandinavian bookstore (I am Swedish!) and got free shipping.

I have been very pleased with the quality of my decks, the packaging is wonderful and the box is sturdy. The cardstock is much thicker than on a regular tarot deck. This could be something that you’ll either like or dislike. Shuffling is a little bit harder but I adore the high quality feel.

Postage costs are outrageous now. But the site seems to be US based, as they now have a printer who collects VAT for the EU... That said - I would guess that they use a printer somewhere else (again, I'm guessing which one...) and orders ship direct from that printer. Tarot Heritage are brilliant for quality - and given that their decks are cheaper than thecartomancer, it may work out much the same when postage kicks in.

@Raggydoll, @gregory, thank you both very much! As Yves' decks are of such great quality, I don't want to splurge on the Cartomancer's. I will buy a deck from France, maybe someone will travel soon. Anyway there's no rush for me, and even if he runs out of them I can live with that.

Maybe also look for a pre-loved copy, owned by someone in your part of the world?

Regarding Madenie decks, there is also this one https://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/tarot-de-marseille-mamanmiyuki/

It is a redrawn version of the Madenie. I have the mini version and, if I recall correctly, the shipping/customs wasn’t particularly high

@Raggydoll in our region we don't have many people who use TdM, and not many of those who buy non-fake decks of ANY type. Can you imagine? Everyone here sells cheap knock-offs calling them "affordable" decks, and when you ask for an authentic one they say "we don't carry VIP class decks, sorry" (lol my life).

Thank you for reminding me about the Mamanmiyuki! I was looking at it, even had it in my basket on Ebay and then removed it. I don't really want many decks, and if I have this one, I will anyway keep feeling I should have bought "the grown-up one". I love the soft faces on the Madenie, and if I am to have one TdM, let it be that one. (Although you know what, I also really like Marshmallow Tarot derived from Fine Dalla Torre).

I can imagine. Not many people in Scandinavia use tdM either, which is probably why I managed to snag the Madenie even after it had technically gone out of print. No one else desired it 😅

You are right. The mamanmiyuki is cute but it’s certainly not as nice as the original one. However, the small size has made it one of my most used tdM decks. I like to do larger spreads and mini decks are perfect for that.

How fortunate! I bought some vintage perfumes this way; other people did "meh".

I guess if my interest lasts I might need several decks at some point. But first I need to be able to do something with them. I have only just started receiving meaningful readings!

Huh, he responded and obviously I made a mistake when filling the form to see the postage costs - maybe it autofilled with Uzbekistan and I did't notice. It's $10 shipping within the US which is absolutely reasonable. I am thinking, it is still $80 per deck, whereas Yves' are $39 euro (yes I am stingy). Anyway, $10 is good news.

Aren't they sweet? Quite literally, because they are sugar cubes wrapped in Conver tarot!

I know they are not cards but just could not help sharing! Found here.

That’s hilarious and very cute, if slightly misleading 😆! I wonder how they came up with that idea 😁

OMG!!! If they weren't outrageously expensive I would buy them. I have Tarot & Tea parties at my house ... can you imagine to have these in the sugar bowl?

Aren't these sweet?  Sorry I could not help myself.  And no, it's not totally off topic...  Or is it?  There is a Kickstarter campaign right now for a Mahjong Divination deck.4e116d7dc2884e6415333260bdc5e375.jpg.9fee4a8c34cdcea65597ff74b0050ead.jpg

They would look amazing on your table, but who would be so heartless as to tear this wrapping paper? You would never have used them!

@Natural Mystic Guide these are stunning!
