I like reading your takes on the cards as I often see things just a little different. To me the Fool seems oblivious to the protection and love around him. He's just traipsin along doin' his thing. That's just me me makin' up stories in the pictures though, not a comment on your reading. @Wyrdkiss I have a physical journal but I was thinking of reviving my one here in the journals section from way back years ago or just make a new one. I use a disc bound journal so I can rearrange my pages and yet it is still a small size to carry in a bag easily. For years I used an old high school binder with a zipper but it was just too huge. I wanted something smaller. Aw, I love this take, @AnomalyTempest - I totally see that now that you've pointed it out, and yeah, it hits close to home too - That was a good one! 2 hours ago, Page of Ghosts said: I am fine with being both tagged and quoted 😊 I'm not one for rationing my words so I often type a lot and tagging is probably more economic in the end. Here are some pictures of my modded Tarot of the Vampyres - I did miss some spots all over the deck or perhaps I didn't coat it as much as I needed to, it was hard to see using a black brush pen even under my strong desk light. I will have to do a second coating later this week but I am pleased with it overall. Black edges really suit this deck! I made sure to take some pictures midway through so you can see the difference as it transformed. Apologies for my messy deck in the background of all these pictures. I also did a reading which came out rather mysterious yesterday - how to best work on finishing my personal writing project. I hit a big milestone this week, but there is still so much left to do before it's even close to done. I actually did the spread in the app, which I really recommend if anyone is curious at all about this deck and want to give it a try before committing to a physical version, which is what I did. It's not very expensive, has some fun spreads and most important of all: it comes with the full guidebook! The guidebook is big and meaty, and the cards all have their astrological correspondences written in it as well as in the cards - just look for the symbols. I wonder if this deck might lean a little Thoth-y as I don't get a purely RWS impression from neither the cards nor the guidebook itself. The Eight of Grails is my positive influences and The Hermit is my obstacle. I found these to be very interesting cards for a creative writing project, especially The Hermit as writing typically is a thing you do alone. For the Eight of Grails I'm happy to be done with a big part of my first draft which I don't have to revisit until the entire first draft is done and I go back in to edit, but overall my hands are still tied in my personal obligation to see this project through. This card was also one of three I pulled the day before as I finished that big part of the project so seeing it again so soon seems significant. The Hermit is a tricky one, but one thing that comes to mind is my resistance about sharing my creative projects with others. A little secrecy is fine, but it often tips over to too much for me. Maybe it's fine to go looking for test readers a little earlier than I had planned for? Any insights to these mysterious cards is appreciated! Those look super cool! And this is a really interesting deck, in general. I think your reading sounds pretty great there. For this particular Hermit, it's interesting that's he's running away, and that there's also a wolf (seemingly) guarding his back. I don't know if that connects to what you were saying about sharing your work at all, but it seems interesting to me. The other thing I noticed is that the character in the Eight of Grails is staring straight at you, while the Hermit is facing away. Something about the Eight of Grails says moving towards your goal, while the Hermit is actually walking away from it. To me - having never used this deck and really just going on images. It may be totally useless, but hopefully some food for thought! Edited May 2, 2022 by sweeneyish
Wyrdkiss Posted May 2, 2022 Posted May 2, 2022 AJ I enjoy Taoist philosophy -- looking forward to seeing that deck. @AnomalyTempest I do enjoy digital / online journals too. Excited to see what you opt for. 90's style hits the nail on the head @Page of Ghosts -- but it certainly works, doesn't it. My Illustrated della Luna arrived today, much to my surprise. But I am saving it for next week. More later.
AnomalyTempest Posted May 2, 2022 Posted May 2, 2022 @Page of Ghosts I love the way the cards look now. I might just give that a shot. I'll find the right marker though. Also the Tarot of Vampyres is a Thothy deck. I got this deck after watching a deck study that was started on another forum a while back. It was so interesting I bought the deck and joined in. The Fool is one of my favorites as well, and the Queen of Scepters is the background image on my phone. The Hermit is my lock screen. He's my Soul card. The Eight of Grails came up for me in a reading not long ago in a place it did not seem to fit at first. So I did what I always do and tried to figure out what I was looking at. The book calls him a deposed lord. Someone who is forced to leave. His chalice is held low, more like a begging bowl. This could be in the book I can't really remember. You said you were maybe feeling a push to move more quickly than, maybe, you wanted to. This Lord is being forced to move on as well. He's kept his crown and grail though. If you don't move something may make you. Don't be like the skulls in the Hermit card waiting for something to come drag you down your path. Either way you'll get there. Move forward or be dragged. Also, I use apps to "test" out decks I can't afford yet. Fool's Dog has a lot and I'm always getting google survey money and I just spend it on apps. Sadly some of my favorites haven't been updated to work on newer phones but Fool's Dog always works. My monthly spread for May: 1. What baggage should I leave behind this month? The Hanged Man: I tend to get myself all tied up in my thoughts. I also can get very rambling with my thoughts, symbolized by blood spewing out of his mouth. Not everyone is interested in my inner world and I need to stop feeling put out when they don't care about my interests as much as I do. There is a time and place to geek out on someone. 2. How can I be less critical of myself and others? Ten of Grails: Get a good buzz? She's the only one that doesn't seem angry or scared or tortured in some way. She's chilling. With her eyes closed. Just happy in her little world. Now I have an old XTC song in my head. Making plans for Nigel even though he seems so happy in his world. I need to just enjoy what life is offering. Look at what I get to do, not what I have to do. 3. What area of my life needs to be reorganized? The Magician: The way I approach my work. I've been thinking a lot about how I thought I would be in a different place by now yet I have let myself bounce around my life like the fool up there in @sweeneyish's reading. Time to gather my tools and work my rituals. 4. What else needs to be done this month? Judgement: Ummmm......, Maybe he's defending from all the distractions I get caught up in? Overall I need to bring my game face. To my work, not people, including myself. I need to chill out and enjoy people. 2
Wyrdkiss Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 A friend posted this exercise. I like the concept. My cards were 5 of cups ( behind) and prince of sword in front. My deck is the Thoth this week. Interpretation soon.

Maybe the Hermit has something to tell you. I’m going to try out this activity later today - thanks for posting it. Influences - May 3rd I had an interesting reading this morning - Here’s what I got: The Knight of Swords appears again! I’m seeing this reading as a process, from past to future. The Knight of Swords is driven, action oriented, and ambitious. In the next card, the blood moon transforms into a mystical, imagination giving Moon, and the Knight has become the sleeping demon, submerged in the waters of dream and intuition. Action gives way to introspection and imagination. In the Two of Swords, the demon wakes up from the dream. The murky towers in the distance have become two solid buildings, the water solid ground. I’m faced with two options - to move back through the past (left) or to move forward (right) to the next card: the Seven of Cups. Looks like the dreams the Moon planted appear as offerings here. Many options manifest from the world of dream. Time to embrace my imagination and intuition, and see what dream offerings await.

AnomalyTempest Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 @Wyrdkiss That is such a timely spread. I have to admit when I first drew the Hanged Man I was like ummmm. I'll have to try that out for some clarity. I can see it working with any card one wants deeper insight into. In the Deviant Moon study we are doing different little spreads for each card and I have been using the inspiration card as a signifier. How would this card answer the questions? It's been really working well for me. @sweeneyishYes! That magician is intense and I've been told I come across that way many times. My "excited" body language and tone of voice can come across as scary and angry. Hardcore is a nice way of putting it. 🤣 I can get really amped up about things. That deck is so cool. I am really enjoying your readings with it.
AnomalyTempest Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 And I did it! The pic is from when I was just finished with the Trumps. I am super happy with them. The deck looks so much better now.

The Hermit in this deck gives off the impression of an extra illusive character, even for a hermit! I like how detailed the guidebook for this deck is but sometimes it's a lot to read through when youre just trying do to a quick little spread or a daily card and then I typically just look at the pictures and get some ideas from them instead. These cards have a similar energy in some ways, both leaving something behind in search for something else, perhaps I need to be careful that I don't abandon the wrong thing in the next phase? And as always I so appreciate you sharing the magnificent illustrated pips TdL - they do look like a good time 😁 On 5/3/2022 at 12:56 AM, AnomalyTempest said: @Page of Ghosts I love the way the cards look now. Thanks for confirming my suspicions! I'm not a big Thoth reader or scholar, although I certainly appreciate and respect it for its beauty and contributions to tarot as a whole, so it's nice to have a softer Thoth option in my collection. It works really well for a vampire deck too - I can easily imagine vampires themselves being into the occult and more ceremonial mysticism, which fits the impression I've always gotten from the Thoth deck. And a study group for this deck sounds like a lot of fun, both with the Thoth connection and the detailed artwork. Your interpretation is noted and yes, the Lord in this card is pretty much forced to leave because it has become too toxic and now he is searching for his happiness (Nine of Grails). I just left behind a part of the writing project where I was stuck for a long time and I really dreaded revisiting that part, so it could also be some residual feelings from having to engage with that. The Hermit is close to my heart as well, being a Virgo sun, but my soul card is actually The Hierophant, which I've always found weird since I don't think I have any obvious Hierophant attributes. I hope I can figure it out some day.
AnomalyTempest Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 (edited) @Wyrdkiss I did this little exercise. The Two of Grails is behind me. The Eight of Skulls before. It's telling me I need to stop using my relationships as an excuse not to get things done. I tend always put others first. I worry about how everything I do will affect everyone around. In reality no one is going to be jealous of my work. I can take time for what I want without neglecting others. This is very much a "suck it up, buttercup" deck for me. @Page of Ghosts I enjoyed it so much I did my Tarot Nova as well. I wanna do more! You may have created a monster. 😛 Edited May 4, 2022 by AnomalyTempest
Page of Ghosts Posted May 4, 2022 Posted May 4, 2022 @AnomalyTempest If it makes you feel any better I too was inspired by myself and set out to finally edge the Enchanted Tarot I trimmed last year 😆 It was way too big for me to shuffle as it was, but I really enjoyed the coloured borders so now I'm edging all the suits accordingly. Both me and the deck feel happier about it getting its colours back!

sweeneyish Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 I'm enjoying all of your arts and crafts. How fun! Certainly beyond me, but I enjoy seeing what you're doing. And @Page of Ghosts, no judgements on multiple decks here. I think by June I will have five different versions of the Trionfi, which is totally outrageous, by all accounts. I have a couple readings to share - the one @Wyrdkiss shared with us that I just didn't have time to post yesterday, and my influences reading today. First, "What's Holding Me Back" reading: Page of Cups: He’s standing in the water, gorging himself on water, even though his belly is full. There’s a sense of indulging in new things, even when it’s not necessary. The Page is surrounded by water - He doesn’t need any more! Well, without even moving on to the next card, I think there’s some pretty clear (and painfully truthful) advice here. I’m always looking for the next best thing, rather than appreciating what I have, and that makes it hard for me to make progress - Especially on my practice. It makes me stuck! How to overcome it: Ace of Pentacles I see this from two angles - One, a grounding in the pure earthiness of the Ace of this suit, rather than lost in the sea of craving in the Page of Cups. The other is recognizing how I’m already so rich in my life - not rich with money, but rich with spiritual practice, family, and everything I need. I just need to see it.
sweeneyish Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 And my "Influences" reading for today: King of Cups: Emotional stability, outpouring of love and compassion. VIII of Coins: Hard work, toiling, but with a treasure waiting after all the hard work. King of Coins: The fruition of the work of the VIII of Coins. The King effortlessly holds the Coin, enjoying the fruits of his labour, perfectly in control of his life and success. It’s funny, my partner and I were talking about leadership styles last night, and I have been finding in my new(ish) role at work I’ve been discovering my own style, which is very King of Cups - Connecting with people on an emotional level, being compassionate, listening, generosity. The reality is, it is hard work, and I have to keep at it, knowing it will pay off in the long run (VIII of Coins). If I do, I will be able to embody some of the confident and assured stability of the King of Coins.

My local art supply store is a bit hesitant on which to recommend for tarot edging, to avoid one that smears. I want to green-edge my Enchanted Forest. @sweeneyish I'm looking at that Page of Cups and seeing yet another court card in the Luna that suggest gluttony. Interesting but I'm not sure what to make of it yet. Today I did the Hanged Man exercise I previously posted, this time stopping at the proper card! The one behind the Hanged Man is the Prince of Cups. In front is the solution, is the Universe -- the last of the Major Arcana. The Thoth does Court Cards differently from RWS style. I will break that down later. But the prince of cups is a problematic fellow when Ill-dignified, when his more negative / unhelpful approach to the world is at work. In this case, when acting in his mode of personality, an individual (of any gender identification) does not follow through on their ambitions and slew of ideas. Their very being is infused with creative inspiration and lofty ideas, but as Crowley put it, "his very name is writ in water." Indolent, they begin the creative process, but it soon dissolves away. I can be guilty of this, and I know I have more writing to publish, but getting from inspired idea to output has been a challenge this past year. The universe is a card that is hard to see here, as it offers little tangible solution. It is encouraging, however. Crowley writes of the Universe, "Treat time and all conditions of events as Servants of Thy Will, appointed to present the Universe to thee in the form of thy Plan." Thus, I am trying to be spiritually vigilant -- no assumptions, but lots of observations. And faith that I am doing precisely what I need to be at the moment, so long as I'm following through with my instincts and drives. I look forward to your thoughts. The spread: Edited May 5, 2022 by Wyrdkiss
AnomalyTempest Posted May 5, 2022 Posted May 5, 2022 @Wyrdkiss On my Tarot of Vampyres and Tarot Nova I used a regular old sharpie. I googled deck modifications and watched videos from Boho Tarot, I think it was. She had one where she used Sharpies, various art markers and even crayola markers and highlighters. Being that decks I did both have dark backs and backgrounds it's hard to see any bleed over. I'm a bit more hesitant about my Game of Thrones tarot as the borders are part of the art and they appear distressed or old as though some of the paint her worn off. I am going to have to go to the art store and try to find a marker that's very light, perhaps the color of old velum or something. I might also try a black marker that's running out of ink but since I don't keep those lying around it would be a slow process. Here's a close up of one of the cards to show the aged look they are portraying. @sweeneyish When I say that Page I thought of your five decks and the Ace saying, "I have everything I need and most of what I want." That's something I tell myself all the time. They just keep making new stuff to want. I did kind of a conversational reading today. I sent in my personal essay which is a requirement for the course of study I'm interested in which is the first step to becoming a Priestess in my system of belief. I didn't really have anything else on my mind as I shuffled and basically asked the deck what was up. I'll lead with the picture and then add my text after. Card 1: Hello again, Prince of Sceptres You look like you are in such a hurry and just can't stop to talk. Where are you racing to? Card 2: Queen of Grails. Mistress of Intuition. Our Prince/hero/self/whatever is following a deep dream. Now that he has made a decision he wants to be off to the races but this Queen isn't going anywhere. She looks fine with waiting however, long it takes. He won't miss her. This really seems in line with the sending off of my essay and the waiting for a response. What is the best use of my time while I wait? Card 3: Daughter of Grails. It's definitely a time to reacquaint myself with my intuitive side. The process of writing this essay brought back lots of things I had forgotten about the women in my family being thought to have "powers". They often knew things they shouldn't have, and I remember my grandmother using her bible like a spellbook and taught verses to stop nosebleeds and things of that nature which were never encouraged by the more rational folks in church. It was too close to witchcraft. Those things just got buried through the years under a cloak of mainstream religion. When my grandmother died all discussion of "knowing things" died with her. Can I get this back? Is it really dead or is it just buried like all these vampyres were? Card 4: Seven of Grails: I had to laugh a little at this one because of the snakes in her hair. My hair has been called instadreads most of my life and I was always in trouble as child for not keeping it neat. My cousins used to joke about watching it loc up by itself. To this day I keep it up in a bun or braid because it's such a pain to comb. Let's just say I can relate to Medusa kin. I need to unbind myself. Everything is contained within me if I will only set it free. I had to stop here. There is a lot for me to chew on here. So many things have come up and so many long forgotten memories. I don't even know how to articulate it all but I can say none of it bad or traumatic so no worries there. Just so much not remembered for so long that it feels kind of heavy.

Page of Ghosts Posted May 6, 2022 Posted May 6, 2022 (edited) @AnomalyTempest If you haven't found something already I used to have some Tim Holtz Distress Ink pads and one them called Antique Linen was really nice and subtle for edging decks that look aged in some way. I did my Centennial RWS with this and it gave a very nice effect! Really should see if I can't get my paws on that 4-set of ink pads again, they were really nice to use. Your reading here is very interesting, I find it fascinating to see the same deck as mine in a different context. So many different court cards here - different people you have to deal with in this initiation or different roles for yourself? The Queen of Grails looks very content and self-assured here, trust the process is what she gives me. Your Daughter of Grails sound kind of similar to part of my family - my great grandfather knew the kind of "blood magic" you mention, it's an open secret in the north of my country that there are people who know how to stop blood using prayer and bible verses, but you're not supposed to speak about it casually. I have a book about the old tradition of keeping black books where they combined what definitely sounds like pagan magic with bible verses (somehow the people who kept them didn't see this as devilish witchcraft, though they kept them hidden) that I need to get into - very fascinating stuff, unfortunately it's not available in English. I'm sure there must be books about this specific type of magic from English-speaking countries too as I've heard the term black books in English. Edited May 6, 2022 by Page of Ghosts
