mainemainemaine Posted May 24, 2022 Posted May 24, 2022 I’m curious how others interpret the 3 of Cups when it comes to love/romance readings Yes, I often associated with a “third party”, but also I tend to associate it with a relationship that might be fun, but really not very serious, or most likely will fizzle out- that it’s not really built to last I understand the other cards in the spread make a difference, but typically unless I see it with a Ten of Cups or a Two of Cups, that is how I see it, and especially if I see it with a Page (immature) energy For me it’s simply not an indicator of a serious romance But, I’m curious how others read it!
Raggydoll Posted May 24, 2022 Posted May 24, 2022 For me, it would totally depend on the deck used. I think the imagery is incredibly important. Another crucial factor is what the question was and what spread position the card came up in. 3 of cups can indicate a relationship that evolves in a social setting. While it isn’t as intimate as the 2 of cups, it doesn’t necessarily represent shallow relationships. It could, for instance, indicate something like a bridal shower or another milestone celebration in a committed relationship.
mainemainemaine Posted May 24, 2022 Author Posted May 24, 2022 I typically use the RW deck (thank you for reminding me to clarify!) So does that impact your answer in any way?
Yola Posted June 25, 2022 Posted June 25, 2022 (edited) Hello friends! Very interesting topic! ☺️ Yesterday in a reading about feelings the 3 of cups appeared to me. Studying this card I remembered that I had seen a topic about it here. I agree with @joy about the importance and dependence of the deck used. Each deck has a different imagetic and symbolic language that can bring very specific meanings in a reading. It was on Aeclectic that I saw 2 people talking about completely different images of the 3 of cups in different decks. One gave a message of something/feeling completely hedonistic, more relaxed and fun; while the other gave a much deeper and more committed meaning. I also agree with you both. I usually understand it as a less serious/committed contact than the 2 of cups. Overall I think this card as a fertile and thriving connection. A desire to be together and share good times. As I usually use RWS, those connections that are fun, pleasurable and relaxed. Happy and enjoyable. For example: wanting to go out, have a beer, kiss, sleep together casually, know more about each other, etc. What do you think? If this card represents the feelings of someone already in a serious relationship, a long-term relationship, it could mean that this person enjoys his partner's company with good humor and joviality. Lots of affection and sharing. (And of course, depending on the context, the spread, the question and the other cards around - it could also indicate a triangle); Edited June 25, 2022 by Yola
TekkieTarot Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 I have seen the 3 of cups come up for the same things when related to love/romance. I kept getting this card for a situation with a guy for the past week. We had been off and on for the past year and a half and we both have been single. Well this card started showing up and when I looked on his Facebook page it said he was in a relationship. I try not to be close minded with the cards but everytime I do a reading and see the 3 of cups it let’s me know someone is cheating or there is a friends with benefits situation going. I’m currently trying to relearn the the tarot and see new interpretations.
Giana222 Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 3 of cups has meant for me another person is involved.
Chariot Posted August 24, 2022 Posted August 24, 2022 @TekkieTarot - I think cards do come to represent certain things to certain people, and there is nothing wrong with that, in my opinion....even if the card says something entirely different to you than it does to other people. If you would interpret this card as a 'cheating' card (ie 3's a crowd) then that's the language the cards are using with you. For me, this card usually represents a convivial occasion ...not a formal one (like the 4 of wands), but just something fun between friends or colleagues. I never thought of it as a cheating card, but that's an interesting way to look at it. Do you have other cards you would interpret as a fun times card?
TekkieTarot Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 @Chariot Well the 3 of cups is my fun card outside of love readings lol. I’ve had the 3 of cups pop up when I’ve gotten together with friends to go out or when I’ve been having girl talk my friends as well. But I did read somewhere on the AT forum that the 3 of cups can represent a person who is your lover and best friend in one. But also in my experience when the 3 of cups have came up it didn’t always mean cheating as in having sex with someone else. It could have just been they were texting someone else or going out with another person as well as being flirty even though their in a relationship with someone else.
Genius_Garden_Tarot Posted September 9, 2022 Posted September 9, 2022 When the three of cups comes up in a love reading, I see it as keen advice not to become so caught up in the affair that you lose connection with friends and loved ones. Make sure to reach out and nurture those relationships that have withstood the test of time. Look to friends for guidance and advice in matters of love and romance. Make sure you cultivate all forms of love, and not just the romantic sort ❤️
