Agnes Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 I’m in, with the Alleyman’s Tarot which I think is sort of a tarot and oracle smushed into one. Among other things I’m planning to explore whether it makes sense to separate out the tarot core or to use it as a whole.
Agnes Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 After the Alleyman's there's no particular deck that I'm burning to explore; I just want to work through my collection. I could grab the first that comes to hand, or make some sort of correspondance between decks and seasons (I have October lined up already), or make a list and use a random number generator to choose, etc., but I'm curious to know how other people choose decks for this thread. I don't know if this thread is the place to discuss this sort of thing or not; if there's a better thread please let me know.
fire cat pickles Posted August 19, 2022 Author Posted August 19, 2022 I'm going through my collection in the order that I acquired it. My last week's deck, the Visconti Tarots, was a total dud! I didn't connect with it at all... hopefully this week will be better!
Bodhiseed Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 I'm in with the Russian Lubok Tarot paired with the Marseille Oracle. Thanks Fire Cat! @Agnes, I have a roster that I use to make sure I go through each deck in my collection. New decks get added as next in line. I try to use a deck more than once before I pass it on. I've weeded out quite a few over the years - mostly impulse buys.
fire cat pickles Posted August 19, 2022 Author Posted August 19, 2022 You're welcome @Bodhiseed! Welcome back 🙂
DesertRat Posted August 19, 2022 Posted August 19, 2022 Good Day All! After spending a week with deck that felt rather ordinary, I've decided to go with a deck that might provide a bit more of a thrill - The Electric Tarot by Twiggy Electric. It's colorful and quirky, but still RWS-y - all my favorite attributes. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/twiggyelectric/the-electric-tarot 9 hours ago, Agnes said: After the Alleyman's there's no particular deck that I'm burning to explore; I just want to work through my collection. I either grab one that catches my eye in the moment or one that I'm trying to decide whether to re-home or not. I don't think I could stick to an organized plan.
Wyrdkiss Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 I'm in this week with the Black Moon Astrology Cards. Happy Friday everyone
fire cat pickles Posted August 20, 2022 Author Posted August 20, 2022 Welcome back @DesertRat and @Wyrdkiss!
Jadis Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 If it's not to late to sign up I'd like to join in with the Botan Tarot.
fire cat pickles Posted August 20, 2022 Author Posted August 20, 2022 Hi @Jadis! Welcome. It is never too late to sign up! I've added you to the list. You can share your readings (or not) right here in this thread or create a a separate thread elsewhere in the readings forum or journals forum (link and info in the opening post). Hope to get to know you and your cards better. Welcome to the forum, too! FCP
Mi-Shell Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 This week I would like to do some “Bird of the Day divination” using my Audubon Birds calendar. So to get started Friday's Bird is a delicate slender Comb-crested Jacana, which on very large spread out feet purposefully strides across a watery pond filled with large Lilly pads. His wings are spread out and up, so should one of the Lilly pads not hold his weight, he is ready to rise into the air. This amazing Bird tells me, to be wise and ready to thread lightly, the ground below is just a watery(emotion-filled) illusion of stability. I am currently working with several Christian churches, who have received a government grant in order to pay me to build a re-education program for the congregations, centred on cultural awareness and sensitivity towards the various Indigenous Nations in our area, and to present a series of interactive workshops that foster cross cultural understanding. Jakana in this image is showing me the delicate dance I am to perform.

Mi-Shell Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 Saturday: Emus! 5 of them, on what looks like a sandy roadway in an featureless desert Emus are flightless Birds, at home in this environment. Today I am having 5 guys here at the house! They are all in their element. They are ripping out our old deck. It is now featureless and bare-boned out where I usually spend my summer days. They also will be here tomorrow, installing a brand new deck. Then the rain will come- and I can frolic outside again, while the well paid Emus will be on their way. I however will use the time to work on the Jakana problems. What a world of difference these 2 images present to me! They mirror the situation with the grant......
Wyrdkiss Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 Welcome @Jadis! I'm finally digging into this pack and have so much to share already. In due time, however, as I'm still sorting my thoughts. Pic enclosed for context.
Agnes Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 (edited) I spent much of the day digging into my chosen deck: the Alleyman’s Tarot which is inspired chaos or a hot mess or maybe both. Pictured above is the minor arcana with some duplicate cards; not pictured is the additional “strange” suit. Below: the major arcana. All but four cards have 2-3 versions each. There are 12 death cards. Not pictured : 50 cards in the “Other Arcana.” I have so many questions about this deck. Are all these cards really distinct? Will it hold together as a system? Can I read with it? I hope to answer some of them this week. There are some amazing cards included and I look forward to tracking down their whole decks. Edited August 21, 2022 by Agnes

So part of what I’m exploring is whether those different descriptions are just aspects of the same card or if they’re really distinct.
Bodhiseed Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 This week I'll be using the Russian Lubok Tarot, created and self-published by Eugene Vinitski and Sergey Savchenko. I'll also be drawing from the Marseille Oracle, a deck created and published by Lo Scarabeo with a little booklet written by Isa Donelli. Today's draws are Death and Friendship: Life is like stepping onto a boat which is about to sail out to sea and sink. ― Shunryu Suzuki. The PDF booklet that came with the Russian Lubok makes an interesting statement about this card: "Death is represented as a time manager." Imagine everyone receiving at birth an hourglass produced to show our allotted time on earth. We might not only learn to become better time managers, but we would likely make sure our time was spent in worthwhile ways. The anchor's meaning of Friendship seems odd at first, yet our meaningful relationships are the ones that keep us anchored when life's waves get choppy. The oracle's booklet states: "It's time to recognize your true friends." How often do we do things for others simply so they will like and accept us? What do we put up with just so we won't lose a relationship with someone? There is no need to be unkind to such folks, but it might be wiser to spend our time with people who accept and care for us unconditionally.
Bodhiseed Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 @DesertRat, I adore the artwork of the Electric Tarot! 😍 @Mi-Shell, I'm enjoying your 'bird-work.' 🐦 Welcome to the DoW group, @Jadis! 🌻 @Agnes, you are a dedicated student of tarot. 😊👍
Agnes Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 @Bodhiseed that is an amazing Death card! I am on my tiny phone and not wearing glasses so at first he looked like a gardener approaching someone sleeping in a park. Which I guess goes with the “time manager” concept. Then when I looked at it in more detail I was struck by his backpack full of alternate tools. When does he use the little scythe ☹️?

I suppose we have big endings and little endings. 😊 Just for information (from Wikipedia): Lubok is a Russian popular print, characterized by simple graphics and narratives derived from literature, religious stories, and popular tales. Lubki prints were used as decoration in houses and inns. Early examples from the late 17th and early 18th centuries were woodcuts, followed by engravings or etchings, and from mid-19th century lithography. They sometimes appeared in series, which might be regarded as predecessors of the modern comic strip. Edited August 21, 2022 by Bodhiseed
Agnes Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Oh, interesting! Are these cards done in Lubki style, then? Or taken from preexisting art?
