A simple Autumn Equinox/Mabon spread for a beginner

My friends, I've been having a wonderful time working through the lessons of learntarot.com, taking notes on each and working through the exercises. Today I reached Lesson 10, The Open Reading. The exercise at the end of this lesson prompts me to look for an opportunity in the coming weeks for an open/general reading to get myself familiar with this style of reading, preferably on a "special" occasion of new beginnings. As it turns out, the Autumn Equinox is coming up on the 22nd! This is the perfect day, as it will be my first observed equinox. So I did a search in the forums for spreads but only found the Autumn Leaves Transition Spread linked here:

But I feel that this is a little advanced for someone just getting started. I ended up finding one here: https://tarottechnique.com/tarot-spreads/mabon-tarot-spread-guide/ It begins with a 3 card spread and increases to 5 for more detail if that's desired. I thought the 3 card spread would be perfect for me. Here is a rundown of the spread:

1---2---3

1. What the universe has provided for me this year

2. What I should be celebrating/what I have to celebrate

3. What winter holds for me

As a sapling myself, I hope this is helpful to any other new readers. If you end up using this spread with me on the Equinox I would love to hear about it 🙂

That's a great little spread you found @Runa for Mabon 🙂 .

I have one I like as well that I thought I would share. It's a Mabon spread from Ethony, from her blog here

1. To Harvest (what to take with you)

2. To Compost (what to leave behind)

3. Light (what to take out into the world)

4. Dark (what to meditate on)

She does a lot of seasonal spreads on her site.

@stephanelli originally posted it on the site in a now archived area and I made a note of it as a future useful spread for myself 🙂

Enjoy your first equinox! 🙂 🍂

I hope @DanielJUK doesn’t mind me sharing this here, but it felt relevant 🙂

I love this one! Especially the "compost" position is quite creative. Thanks for sharing, I'm going to write this one down for the future!

Oooh neat! I haven't joined any reading circles here yet so I'm not sure how they work, perhaps I'll hang around and wait for people to start posting and just observe lol.

If you read the first post for every circle there will be instructions 🙂

@Raggydoll Oh yes, I guess what I meant was I'd like to see how they go first before participating. The tip that @Agnes mentioned in the post above yours pretty much covers that haha. I'm the sort of person who has to watch others do something to gauge how I'm supposed to do it, even with instructions provided! I'll be looking through other threads to investigate.

I quite like this spread, so I will give it a go when the time is near. I don't do ready made spreads usually but love seasonal spreads.

This is so interesting. I've never thought about using seasonal spreads. Although we are a month past the equinox, this has definitely intrigued me enough to do a spread for myself.

I love seasonal spreads too! Samhain is soon upon us so you could always do something for that 🙂 There is also a Samhain/Halloween reading group that has many spread suggestions
