I am a reader first; I am a collector second. I do use a special little mini deck for shuffling some decks. But I just don't worry too much about messing up my decks including 'valuable' OOP ones.

I like my little rounded deck. Oddly I wouldn't do the same to my Yves' Madenie for anything. Something about the Madenie being a reproduction while the Noblet was redrawn. It makes sense in my head. 🙃)

I believe that those pointy decks would have lost their sharp corners after a lot of use, so I just sped up the process to save my hands 😁
DanielJUK Posted August 2 Author Posted August 2 We've got some great threads about deck trimming across the forum.... Trimming decks To trim or not to trim, that is the question Raggy's Deck-trimming process

I looked at it yesterday and there was a button near the top to order late pledges of the deck and now the button has gone, so might have sold out 😞 Nothing to lose by contacting them though

The art is lovely, but this is not a reading card deck that works for me. It is on art paper or cardboard like stock that cannot be shuffled - even if the cards were not oversized, which they are and I couldn’t shuffle them anyway. A lovely campaign by far better than most, and a very talented artist, but I don’t know that I will ever be able to actually use this as a reading deck. 😞 I was so excited about getting it. I am also not a fan of the square corners. Definitely little pieces of art. I just saw this. What a shame! I do wish card creators and issuers would pay closer attention to 'readability' in terms of card stock. You are right, though. I took a look at this deck on a flip-through, and also fell in love with the artwork. But I won't bother with it. I don't need yet another fantastic deck sitting on my shelf that I can't use because I can't handle or shuffle it. Bummer.
gregory Posted August 3 Posted August 3 The whole POINT of this deck was for the creator to try to create a deck in the same way as they did in the days of Gumppenberg etc. It is perfectly shuffleable, and also handleable - not to mention the solution others have offered, which I have to use on decks like my One in Ten, whose cards are so sticky with the gold paint on the borders that I have to store them with tissues between them ! Nothing about it is a shame. It was made very clear during the campaign what you were going to get. Some beautiful things are, in any case, worth having for their beauty. This all reminds me of those families who never use the "best china" in case it gets damaged..... I'm glad that tarot creators feel free to follow their muse rather than turn out only more ordinary stuff.

And actually agree with you when it comes to this particular deck. I didn't see what others had said later, regarding the deck's intent—which is to reproduce what the cards themselves would actually have been like in the days of Gumppenberg etc, not only to look at, but to handle. I only responded to @FindYourSovereignty's remarks from earlier in the thread, before the point about the intentional reproduction was made clear. I actually tried to delete my post, but it wasn't possible. My bad. 😐 In fact, I am now re-thinking ordering this deck after all. The artwork really appeals to me. Edited August 3 by Chariot
gregory Posted August 3 Posted August 3 (edited) It REALLY is stunning. And I shall use it. I can't believe what she has achieved here. You could BELIEVE it was a new and ancient deck uncovered while clearing an ancient house - that old except for a couple of the faces. Edited August 3 by gregory
FindYourSovereignty Posted August 3 Posted August 3 My apologies for not editing my original post. I didn’t mean to cause such a stir. My shuffling issues and lack of historical card stock is my own. Thank you everyone for sharing suggestions. I’ve edited my original post.
DanielJUK Posted August 3 Author Posted August 3 Let's get back to discussing what the postman is bringing? in this thread
Chariot Posted August 3 Posted August 3 (edited) Just ordered the Allcento Tarot, which I saw somebody mention here on the forum. It looks interesting and fun. I watched a YouTube flip through, and am really looking forward to it. Of course there are the usual tarot cards (Major and minor arcana) but lots of others as well, including various archetypes and astrological figures. I'm looking forward to the book that comes with it as well, to explain what the creator wanted the extra cards to be used for. This is a bit outside my usual tarot experience. Love the bright and simple, yet easily understandable artwork that, in many cases, adds to a card's traditional meaning ...at least for me. I think it will take a couple of weeks to arrive. Anticipation! Edited August 3 by Chariot
Wyrdkiss Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Pretty soon the carrier is going to bring me the Occult Tarot by Maneo Studio.
Pierre-Yves Posted August 3 Posted August 3 (edited) I'm waiting for the latest edition of The Forager's Daughter tarot deck. I was looking for a deck where humans didn't take center stage. And where nature was real and complex, rather than fantasized and idealized. Jessica Lei Howard's drawings have an almost scientific quality. What I've seen of this tarot deck shows all the work that has gone into her illustrations. So I'm really looking forward to seeing it in real life. (I like this waiting period.) I find both in awaiting the arrival of a new deck, and really anything in life, that anticipation is a great part of the pleasure. I am pleasantly anticipating some new arrivals myself (as I pray that they make it through customs.) One deck has been hung up in customs now for more than a month.
Croat Posted August 4 Posted August 4 (edited) Decided to pick up the Millennium Thoth deck. Not new to the market, but new to me. So far like the artwork better than the original Thoth. Will be interesting to see how well it works out. Edited August 4 by Croat
Celine Posted August 4 Posted August 4 I'm waiting for Untold Tarot by Caitlin Matthews. I need some distraction when I'm not studying Lenormand, and I believe I'm ruined for RWS for a looong time. I do hope to be able to get back to it after studying something correctly. So goodbye RWS (for now, after all I managed to buy a couple of decks already...) and hello something else. So it will be either TDM or...the ridiculously cheap deck Modiano Cartomanzia 184 that's coming in tomorrow. It looks so deliciously kitsch, I am actually shocked by the clash between the Majors and the Pips, and I hadn't realized there was so many female bosoms but we'll see. Maybe I'll love it and finally get somewhere. Or be so horrified I'll have a good laugh.

As for Marseille, I'm eyeing a beautiful round one from Portugal.
Celine Posted August 5 Posted August 5 (edited) It's arrived : The Modiano Cartomanzia 184 It used to be called the Cagliostro tarot (apparently), and I found this on AT which talks of all the quirks of this deck : https://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/cagliostro/ The box came a bit beaten, and is too big for the deck. The LWB is a real booklet (in Italian), with explanations for every card, also in reversed. The Swords are Water and the Cups are Air. And of course - OF COURSE - the booklet doesn't exactly match the keywords on the cards, because why would it. Here are a few pictures (the colours are much brighter in reality: Death is bright pink) 15 hours ago, Wyrdkiss said: may I ask why you are out completely from the RWS? Did I miss a post? I took the libery to dm you not to cluster this thread, but this way will do too : I can't look at a single card from RWS without writing a thesis that ends up not answering any concrete question. I started on THAT foot and now I can't shift gears. I hope I'll manage to do things differently if I take a hiatus. Edited August 5 by Celine
Celine Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Just to add I've just found out (duh) : apparently the pips of the Modiano 184 are Etteilla's. Someone on AT said the Trumps are read as per Oswald Wirth. Ok. Etteilla, me voilà. Goodbye "intuitive" reading 😄 (the quotation marks are mocking myself, not intuitive readers). Hello more studying.
