I thought it would be fun to post a thread to see who all is going to celebrate World Tarot Day tomorrow and how they plan to celebrate it.  I personally don't have any big deal planned, but I've been rearranging my space here near where I always sit. It's not presentable enough to post a photo because I just started arranging it today but I'll post a photo in a few days when I'm finished.

So----anyone want to share?

(If something similar was posted elsewhere on the forum, I didn't find it.)

@Grizabella, what a fun idea. I wasn’t paying attention to this, but now you have me thinking. There are so many options coming to mind and hopefully others will share theirs.

  • light a candle
  • do a small ritual
  • do a reading on what tarot means to me or to the world
  • pull a card and be the energy of that archetype for the day
  • sketch or paint my favorite card
  • do some automatic writing about tarot
  • watch a tarot documentary or listen to a podcast on the history of tarot

I look forward to the photo of your space.

Nice initiative! I might just tidy up my deck storage too.. 😊

Ooh ooh it's time for the 42 card readings..... because it's also World Towel Day, celebrating Arthur Dent and his towel from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. And 42 is the Meaning of Life.

Sadly it seems that all our old readings are gone - which is a shame as mine was inspirational, done with the Power Animals - a deck so awful the artist isn't even credited.

But as nisaba - who called my reading "genius" - said - it kind of proves the existence of aliens on earth....

ETA Oh I found it - I saved it when the place died... but it may be too frivolous to post here?

I'm certainly intrigued and would love to see it 😅

OK - it loses a bit without sight of the dreadful cards - but here you go.

I do stories….

Row 1: The Big Bang Burger Bar (the beginning of all things).
Cards pulled: King Swords, Strength, Ace Swords, 10 Cups, Temperance, Page Swords, 9 Cups.

The leopard creeps through the jungle (fuzzily; that is the last time I will mention this feature of this appalling deck) only to be stopped dead in his tracks by a glaring fish (well, I THINK it is a fish.) A gorgeous panther with a sword stuck in its eye watches from a great height, and with great interest. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, a school of fish swim up behind him.
In the jungle, a peacock butterfly is watched by a gentle looking fox. In terror, yet another school of purple fish, led by a larger yellow one, swim away from it all. The fish get smaller each time they appear in this line. Could we be looking at the end of the ocean here ? the rise of the evil hominid from the soggy waters beneath ?

Row 2: Slartibartfast's favourite fjords (what you believe is solid but which may crumble at any time)
Cards pulled: Knight Swords, 8 Pentacles, 7 Pentacles, 3 Cups. 8 Cups, Queen Swords, Star

The white tiger looks solid enough. He sniffs the air before him (that’s US he is planning to eat, folks…). A terrified rabbit looks at him – but luckily he isn’t noticing it. Likewise a chinchilla (I think it’s a chinchilla; who knows…) A gorgeous and superior looking pink fish with blue fins has clearly been on the LSD; it swims down to the ocean floor, oblivious of the weedy little brown fish in the 8 next door. But the threat remains – a panther glares out from behind some kind of palm tree, and a deer with a crucifix above its head, WTF, looks innocently out at us. It thinks life is solid. It will soon form the solid content of the panther’s stomach. Everyone is out to eat someone – or taking drugs to forget the whole thing…. All life is just a link in the food chain.

Row 3: Deep Thought (what needs to be considered deeply)
Cards drawn: King Pentacles, Ace Wands, World, Tower, Devil, Judgement, Queen Cups.

WELL ! OK – a moose is deep in thought; so are a stork, a dolphin, an elephant, a huge snake, a wolf and one of those orange and white fish. No one is looking at anyone else, though the wolf is howling to itself. But what are they thinking of ? WEIGHTY issues; these are all big cheeses here. But it is secret. Slarti would approve. One moment: All the numbers together add up to 100, if you do them my way. 100 feels awfully IMPORTANT even if it isn’t 42…

Row 4: Marvin the Paranoid Android (what is bringing you down, regardless of superficial positivity)
Cards drawn: Queen Pentacles, Moon, Sun, 7 Cups, 6 Cups, Chariot, 5 Pentacles

A calm deer by a whale’s tail – the whale dives into the water – Marvin will RUST…. And an eagle waits for the surfacing of the body. DINNER ! No chance – we are under water with a shark followed by two (well, they might be) angel fish of some kind. Drowning…. And two horses gallop towards us – they will trample us; was it smart to resurface or would we have done better to stay under the ocean ? In the last card, two deer relax on a sunny rock…. Superficial it is; these are not happy cards…. (you are telling me…. )

Row 5: the Infinite Improbability Drive (what is so unlikely that it might just happen)
Cards drawn: Fool, Empress, Hanged Man, Magician, 6 Pentacles, Knight Wands, Queen Wands.

Unlikely – too right. These all look rather NICE. We start with a fox of some kind, in the evening sunlight, and the empress lion likewise. The night falls, and the bat that is the Hanged Man looks out at us. The magician – a crow – is shiny and alert; something is about to happen. Something BIG. A GROUNDHOG ! It’s groundhog day ?? No - no snow. A seated ostrich looks at him with interest – clearly thinks he’s nuts. But the last card – a GORGEOUS peacock – yes, peacock. For the Queen. We are looking for – a gender reassignment? How improbable is that ? Well, OK it happens all the time – but in TAROT ?

Row 6: The Dolphin's row (what to indulge in or run from to attain joy)
Cards drawn: 4 Pentacles, High Priestess, 3 Pentacles,. 2 Pentacles, 5 Cups, 4 Cups, 10 Wands

A chipmunk nibbles nuts. An owl sits on a post against a brilliant blue sky. A small large eared deer rolls in the grass in the sun. A badger (European, for sticklers) sniffs the air as he comes out of his sett. I have NO idea what the 5 is – it might be what Ozzies call a stonefish, but it is LARGE and headed straight for us. I guess we look like a good meal. That will be the one to run from. A fluorescently coloured fish swims happily among the weeds. And a fat pigeon sits on a post looking out at the world (I could wish all the wands weren’t sticking in his head, but you can’t have everything) Everyone looks content. Seems to me – grab the world and ENJOY.

Like nisaba’s wonderful poem - this really needs to be experienced wordlessly in the heart after reading. But not for a good reason. I think it is telling me that this deck should return to its box and try to improve itself. At which it will inevitably fail. Meanwhile the rest of us should enjoy that which Slartibartfast hath made.

Towel used: the one with the mermaids on. Very tatty beach towel. It seemed RIGHT somehow.

I should add here - the spread was designed by nisaba - who then cheated with hers....!

Hi,

a World Tarot Day? Never thought about that, but never mind. 😁

The "Power Animal Tarot" ist still available. I just bought one on Ebay, one is left. Just do a web search, there are still more around.

According to the shop tarot.nl, author is Steven Farmer, but that seems wrong, since he did the Power Animals Oracle, which is different.

Yes, it is awful. It is so awful that it is funny. A perfect match for your 42 card HHGG spread, just hilarious, like the books. 😁

The reading played out in my imagination like an absurdist Rousseau-esque animation, I was giggling the whole way through 😅
