Tapwater Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Which system is more accurate when offering readings. I just have a standard pack of cards I use
Raggydoll Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Technically speaking, tarot is cartomancy. But I get what you mean. I am of the opinion that accuracy depends on the reader and not the tool. Practice and evaluate, then practice some more. That’s my best advice. Good luck!
DanielJUK Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 oooh accurate is a difficult one because it's subjective! One person might love one system more than another and say that is the most accurate! It's the oldest debate in divination and it's philosophical, there is no one exact answer. The systems are just different and good for different types of reading/ different people. Like @Raggydoll experience is also an important factor. This is what I have found with the different systems and I don't read playing cards (as yet) but do other systems.... Cartomancy (playing cards, Lenormand, Kipper and many others) are very to the point. They call them no-nonsense. This can be a little harsh but it really just tells you what you need to know. You have to learn each card and it's meaning though. Choose an author / style / method and really spend time learning it. They work in combinations, so experience comes from understanding the different interactions after you have fully learnt each card. It's easier than tarot to learn the formal system but harder I think in you have to really learn what each card means and how they interact. Tarot and Oracles beats around the bush I think. It gives you everything about a question or situation, the background, the themes, the issues in your life and then gets to the point or outcome. This is not necessarily a good or bad thing but just is how it works. Also when you have learnt a little about each card, the basics, you can read the card art intuitively. You need to understand the formal system though (like major arcana, minors, courts, etc). This community is mostly about tarot in posts and so less people will come to help with playing cards, Lenormand and stuff. So in learning, there are probably more resources out there for Tarot than the others. Cartomancy likes precise questions the best, whilst you can get away with more general and open questions with tarot and oracles. I see it like (I have done this in my own life), what do I need to know about the next week ahead? Cartomancy would give you something that will happen in the week, something definite. I remember I used to do Lenormand every week when learning and one week it said to beware a phone call and becareful about it, don't trust the person (snake). This was a little out of the blue as a message. Sure enough, midweek I had an out of the blue phone call, it was an administrator who was fishing with questions about my life. It was a formal call that I must respond on, I was careful and found later it was recorded and could have been used against me! I was truthful in my responses but the Lenormand gave me the heads up! I don't think the person was on my side, they were trying to catch me out! Using Tarot or Oracles for reading for a week would be like, these themes in your life will cross over and this from your past and future and this will happen. But you would have to get the week's interpretation out of that. Cartomancy can be like a short cut to the outcome or answer, where as Tarot gives you a lot of helpful stuff but you have to get through it to the outcome. So they give different things and both ultimately can be accurate 🙂 .

It’s not a matter of whether we like the answer, it’s whether the answer is true and relevant. I guess there are other definitions, but that’s my simplistic and very literal version of what accuracy means 🙂

The results were acceptable. Especially when starting out, this might be a decent method to try out. Ask a question you know the outcome to and attempt a reading. You may even do two readings, one with tarot and one with playing cards in comparison.

Like you say accuracy is objective but which system is subjective. There are people who will claim their preferred system or even a specific deck 😂
Raggydoll Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 What @fire cat pickles said is what I meant by “practice and evaluate”. I think it’s a good idea to test out our tools and see what type of readings they do best, and to also sharpen our interpretation skills. For example, I have a few different set of runes and I use them slightly differently. They are all what I consider ‘accurate’, I just find them slightly different in reading style. So I have one set that I like for predictions on a bigger scale, like world events. I have tested it by doing readings related to the certain events and certain places in the world (this forum doesn’t allow discussions on political topics so I’m being vague on purpose). And this has allowed me to see in what way an event is described (basically, what symbolism or ‘language’ my tool uses to convey the answer) and what timeframe a prediction could have. It’s very useful information. I think you can become a good reader with any tool, but the learning experience will better if you choose a tool that you’re especially drawn to.
Mr Green Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 I also like the playing cards, and you can have the room to change the meanings as you get more comfortable with them. I have found my way has moved now over into helping and suggesting more than prediction, but that's just me.
