Nemia Posted January 20, 2024 Posted January 20, 2024 (edited) I like my crochet pouches and cruciform wraps. But I keep the decks in their original boxes if possible because they warp less when kept snugly. The crochet wrap or pouch goes around the box and protect it, too. For more elaborate or really sturdy boxes, I don't need crochet wraps. I also use all kinds of different bags, and I wish I could sew.... All my tarot bags, wraps and pouches are up on Ravelry. I have to make a new batch, I feel so crochet-y lately... Oh, and I love love love tins for tarot decks. Edited January 20, 2024 by Nemia
Penthasilia Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 It has been a while but figured I would share. I love housing my decks in unique/themed bags or cases and the funkier/more fun the better. I recently found a new person who makes the most adorable bags and just received some today. She is on Etsy and her bags are quite thick- almost quilt like- super nice quality. And she also sends matching stones to put in the bottom with your deck. They are so lovely and I realized it would be good to share her info as I do believe she is rather new to the market place. Her shoppe name is NightToDawnTarot and she is out of Maryland, USA. Showing one of the bags closed with deck and then open with stones. She also lovingly packs and ties with a bow, which Lord Byron enjoyed playing with as I unpacked the goodies.
Morwenna Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 Some of those are lovely! But I'm another one who just goes with the original boxes where possible. When not possible, I use little bags, or sometimes a kerchief or scarf as a wrap. I have a few decks whose boxes have disintegrated, and the shards of the boxes are bagged or wrapped with their decks! I do have one deck I bought or traded for (long enough ago that I forgot which) that came to me in a crocheted bag. Those that came in large set boxes are on a bookshelf; if I ever want to carry the decks inside somewhere, I would put the cards into one of those bags I mentioned. Not fancy bags, just little satin or mesh ones. I did make the mistake (in my eyes) of throwing away the outer box from the first boxed set I ever got, but I never did that again.
Wooden_Nickel Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 Many years and decks ago I used to do book-binding as a hobby -- nothing fancy, mostly just repairing old books, but the same skills came in useful when I decided some of my decks deserved handmade containers. Here's a book-shaped container, closed: And open:
Wooden_Nickel Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 Another deck box I made. This one's not as fancy, but sturdier: Open wide and say aah:
Wooden_Nickel Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 That having been said, I got tired and frustrated and stopped making deck-cases years ago. After a stage of covering old wooden tea boxes with decorative paper and lacquering them [see below], ten years ago I started keeping my decks in bags, in cigar boxes, or just on a shelf in their tuck boxes.
Morwenna Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 (edited) Gorgeous! 😘 I would love to have the patience! Though if I had a wooden box (as your last pic showed) I think I'd leave it natural. Edited June 16, 2024 by Morwenna Added comment
Wooden_Nickel Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 Thanks, Morwenna! 😊 Patience is exactly the right word for what I ran out of. There's an awful lot of measure-twice-cut-once involved in making boxes, not to mention always keeping a wet sponge nearby to wipe the glue off your fingers.
Raggydoll Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Such beautiful boxes! Very inspiring 😀 Currently I’m contemplating what type of storage solution I could use for a new wooden Oracle that I’m creating. Something nicely padded that travels well. I’ll keep on thinking 😊
