A thread for those who would like to work through their collection of decks, participants choose decks from their collections to work with for the week. Some use one deck, others use two or more. Some combine methods: Tarot, non-tarot (e.g. oracle), playing cards, or any other divinatory method is welcome. All we ask is that you use at least one tarot or oracle deck.

No collection is too large or too small. The only rules we have are the Tarot, Tea & Me Rules; Be respectful of one other. Please join us!

  • Please post with your choice of deck(s) for the week
  • Chat away about your deck, how you're finding it (or not), etc., it's all up to you
  • Participants may either choose to share their readings here in this discussion thread or opt to have their own journal in the Journals Forum and link it here
  • Yet others may even have an offline journal in paper & pencil/pen form

Share as often, as much, or as little as you like. You can drop in and out at anytime—reality and life permitting. New to tarot? Long time reader? Come on in!

Thank you Fire cat! ❤️

This week I'll be using the Middle Way Arcana, a major arcana deck based on the ideas of Buddhism. This deck was one I created for personal use with scissors and a glue stick. I'll also be drawing from the Vertical Oracle, created by Antero Alli with Sylvie Pickering and published by Vertical Pool. Today's cards are Death and Monkey Mind:

At one time or another, everyone loses something.
~Lama Surya Das

The Five Remembrances remind us of the natural course of a physical existence: we will get older, sick and eventually die; we will one day be separated from everything and everyone we love. Our deeds are the only ground on which we stand. If we are a humane human, we have a soft and tender heart that allows us to experience warmth, wonder and joy yet can also support us in grieving our losses. Though grief is natural, if we don't want to add to our suffering, we will not rage against what normally happens to everyone in some form. Monkey mind occurs when our mind is a swirl of chaotic thoughts and feelings - like a monkey jumping from one branch to another. As Yongey Mingyur describes: "Our minds are like flags in the wind, fluttering this way and that, depending on which way the wind blows." Loss can easily transport us to such a mindset, but awareness - bringing our attention to our thoughts and emotions without bias - can help us find equanimity. Open awareness permits us to see that we are being swept away without attaching to our thoughts and emotions, and it can aid in our release.

Hi, all!  Sorry I missed you last week.  Too much work and too much fun!  But I'm back.

This week will be Tarocchi Fine dalla Torre in Bologna, Museo Internatzionale dei Tarocchi, one of the decks I got because they are featured in Caitlin Matthews’ Untold Tarot.  The little foldout says XVII century tarot of Bologna, edited by Arnell Ando.  The original was a tarocchino, a deck that leaves out 2-5 of the suit cards, but this deck has added the pips to make a full deck.  It has a different color palette and a strange back.  I can’t quite tell from the foldout if it's original, but I think so.

I feel very sad that I already creased a card before I even used the deck (because of a too-tight box), but I’ll deal with it.

Monday1.thumb.jpg.27d0763e6a6fe21d2017e4bc511cc17c.jpg

So wash, shuffle, and interview!  (I guess I should be understanding if the deck has a grudge against me!)

Monday2.thumb.jpg.e4a4877bf1dee8caed4d23f02173bca2.jpg

What is your most important characteristic?  King of Coins

Ugh, it cut on the creased card.  Well, I guess that’s its most important characteristic.  And its physical presentation.  But it’s the king, so even though it’s not perfect, it’s very effective with physical readings.

What is your strength?  9 Cups

It’s good for reading about wishes, expectations, and personal wants.

Your weakness?  Page of Wands

But it takes a while to learn how to actually use it.  And put those wish predictions into practice.

What can you teach me?  5 Coins

Disappointment about the creased card!

How can I learn it?  6 Wands

All will be well if I just claim victory!

What will be the outcome of our work together?  10 Cups

All will be well, and I’ll end up loving it and loving to use it for others.  It will be a living, growing tool in my toolbox.

This week will be Tarocchi Fine dalla Torre in Bologna,

THIS IS MY ALL TIME FAVE DECK!!!

I adore it. But I'm too much of a Virgo Moon to actually read with it.

I just take it out of its box and love it from time to time };>

Thanks for posting the deck interview. Fun to see someone actually using it!

I got a new deck ... please sign me up for Devine Deco ... which I got influenced to buy after seeing someone here post about it *sigh*

Art deco and dance theme ... I couldn't resist. And reasonable price so why not?

Deck Interview: Divine Deco

IMG_0834.thumb.jpg.d633e8850f9e24de774d10f7296752fd.jpg

The box says it's influenced by Balkan art ...

Mostly it strikes me as an homage to Ballet Russes.

Considering that Ballet Russes is the only ballet known to have caused a riot [1913 at Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris] it holds a dear, dear place in my heart.

Even if this deck doesn't CALL itself a Ballet Russes tribute deck ... that's exactly what it is.

Will it hit as a reader? Don't know.

One thing to note ... the card stock is THIN. It was only $23 ... but with this thin cardstock I would not pay a penny more.

1.     Energy: Describes the deck’s essence / overall vibe = Temperance

It's a balanced deck. Not particularly emotional. Neither dark or nor light. It has no extremes.

I may feel "lukewarm" about it as a reader.

2.     Timing: Why has the deck come to me now? / Why do I feel drawn to this deck now? = Q Coins

Q Pents is a stalker card. My health is terrible and I can't dance anymore. This deck reminds me how much I loved dancing. How much I loved and still love the aesthetic and costumes of the Ballet Russes. How they influenced my costumes. This deck is nostalgic for me ... recalling days when I was fit and strong and the pure fun of dance and color and costume design.

3.     Teaching: What can the deck teach me? What areas will it help me explore? = 2 Coins

There are 2 twos in this spread. Balance is a theme here [as it would be in a dance deck]. The 2s taken with Temperance emphasize the theme of balance.

4.     Challenge: How will the deck challenge me? What might I find difficult to work with? = 3 coins

3 coins means working together or building something ... which doesn't apply.

It can also reference learning or school. That might apply.

The images are aesthetic and thematic with a passing nod to RWS.

I find it challenging to actually recognize cards. I thought Q coins was ace coins until I looked more carefully.

5.     Limits: What areas are NOT this deck's expertise? For what topics should I read a different deck? = 2 Swords.

This isn't a deck for making decisions. It's more about finding inner balance. It's forte is not yes/no type questions.

It won't necessarily help create an action plan.

6.     Grace: In what areas will the deck and I organically connect and flow together? = 6 coins

So many of the cards in this spread have to do with balance or synthesis.

I felt like this would be a "me" deck ... but 6 coins suggests I might end up using it for clients sometimes.

7.     Whisper: the deck’s message / guidance for this moment = 9 swords

every card except temperance was coins or swords. body or mind.

I've just gone through a year of terrible anxiety ... and mental anxieties negatively impacted my physical health

The guidance;  it supports my sankalpa to create mental boundaries to reduce anxiety ... so that my body might heal.

@Misterei, I love all the movement in this deck! And I like your sweet tarot reading companion too.

@Bodhiseed I had to pick her up and move her a few times. I would be shuffling and she would lie down EXACTLY where I planned to lay the cards.

Then stop shuffling and move the cat. Wash rinse repeat.

I made up a spread for the Solar Eclipse:

Solar Eclipse in Chitra Virgo: Solar Eclipse spread by me

Deck: Divine Deco

I'm only posting the spread and image here. I'll put the full interpretation in my journal.

  1. The Door that's closing [fruition, completion]
  2. The Door that's opening [new direction]
  3. What is being eclipsed/obscured?
  4. What is being revealed?
  5. The Sun [ego]
  6. The moon [mind & emotions]
  7. Ketu [liberation, mystic message]
  8. Optional: effects on my H4? [the house in your natal chart most affected by the eclipse]
