A thread for those who would like to work through their collection of decks, participants choose decks from their collections to work with for the week. Some use one deck, others use two or more. Some combine methods: Tarot, non-tarot (e.g. oracle), playing cards, or any other divinatory method is welcome. All we ask is that you use at least one tarot or oracle deck.

No collection is too large or too small. The only rules we have are the Tarot, Tea & Me Rules; Be respectful of one other. Please join us!

  • Please post with your choice of deck(s) for the week
  • Chat away about your deck, how you're finding it (or not), etc., it's all up to you
  • Participants may either choose to share their readings here in this discussion thread or opt to have their own journal in the Journals Forum and link it here
  • Yet others may even have an offline journal in paper & pencil/pen form

Hi all!

This week for me will be Tarocchi Sola Busca Ferrara XV Century, from the Lo Scarabeo Anima Antiqua series.  It’s pretty much the same as LS’s previous version with a nicer box and booklet.  Oh, but I think the cards are larger, too.

I’m finally done with new decks (except for the four I can’t figure out how to ready with yet!), so it’s time to cycle back to this one that I’ve been putting off reading with.  My whole life!  So I think I’m going to play it by ear and see if the named majors correlate at all with “regular” tarot majors, and if not, read the pictures, and it that doesn’t work, THEN research the person named.  I can make my own rules!  I have the small yellow book by Sofia Di Vincenzo (U.S. Games, 1998), but I’m not sure how helpful it will be.

Experiment interview!

Ok, no majors, but some named courts.

What is your important characteristic?  13. Queen of Coins, Elena

So is this Helen of Troy or Helen, mother of Constantine, who discovered the true cross?  I’m going with Helen of Troy, most beautiful woman of all time, which works for Queen of Coins, I think.

The deck is known for its beauty and historical, even mythical, status.

What is your strength?  8 Swords

Person looks unhappy he has too many swords.  But he’s ready to wield one of them.  Cornucopia on the sides emphasize the abundance of swords.

It’s a very cerebral deck, making us work our brains to use it, sometimes too much so, so that people don’t try.  Like me until now!

Your weakness?  12. Knight of Coins, Sarafino

Wikipedia suggests the name is related to seraphim, a higher level of angels.  He’s pretty active for a knight of coins, even riding out of the picture!

The weakness is of course its divergence from more regular tarot.  It’s not what people expect, and it doesn’t work for some.

What can I learn from you?  5 Cups

On the other hand, some illustrations work with tarot meanings, like this overburdened wanderer.  He’s much like a fool, even with a little dog trying to bite him.  He has all the cups but they’re probably empty.  He doesn’t even use the broom to fight off the dog.

I can learn about concepts of fortune and misfortune of an earlier time from the illustrations.

How can I learn it?  4 Cups

A cherub helps a woman stash cups in a sack.

I can learn about fortune and misfortune by holding onto my feelings, maybe putting them on the back burner while I learn about the feelings of others.

What will be the outcome of out work together?  2 Staves

Dude wearing nothing but boots and a hat!  In any event, he looks like he’s going somewhere, naked or not.

This means that my “just do it” strategy for reading with this deck will work.  I’ll get somewhere with it, even if I don’t know where that is yet.

This week I'll be using the Anima Mundi Tarot, created and self-published by Megan Wyreweden. Paired with it will be the Nature's Pharmacy deck, created by New York Botanical Garden and published by Chronicle Books. Today's draws are the Knight of Pentacles and Arnica:

We, the People, recognize that we have responsibilities as well as rights; that our destinies are bound together... ~Barack Obama

This Knight of Pentacles is illustrated with a gray wolf, an animal loyal and dedicated to his mate and pack. Is he standing guard as a protector or is he searching for food as a hunter? Either way, he is constantly alert as his clan depends on him. This Knight embodies commitment and duty without wavering; he knows there is no ease or well-being for anyone if his focus is solely self-centered. Arnica is a part of the sunflower family; its name is likely derived from the Greek arni ("lamb") because of its soft, hairy leaves. Arnica gel has been used as an application to the skin for osteoarthritis. It reminds this dutiful Knight that he must soften his own agenda and allow others to help him. It's a we effort, not a me effort.
