Hi everyone,

I saw a great thread on (another tarot site)

(link removed)

For those who don't feel like reading it, basically this person came up with some creative ways to learn tarot everyday for the next 365 days. Here's some of their ideas:

- If the card is pulled for the first time, meditate on its themes and symbols. I am personally planning to imagine myself inside the card and take note of any smells, sensations, tastes, colours, and overall feelings.

- If the card is pulled for the second time, spend 10-15 minutes journaling on its themes and how they're showing up in your life

- If the card is pulled for the third time, focus on the reversal (useful for those who don't use the reversals yet but would like to start incorporating them!)

- If the card is pulled for the fourth time, compare and contrast the reversed vs upright meanings

I absolutely love this idea and would love to start doing this in 2024. I have been doing daily pulls for a while now, but sometimes I'm too lazy to look deeper into the meanings. I feel like having these guidelines would give me a more structured way of learning.

I thought I'd share this with you all in case one of you might be interested in doing this too. I'm wondering if any of you have more ideas, suggestions, or just any thoughts on this. I feel like it's such a wonderful way to learn tarot, and for those who have been reading for years, well it's a great way to connect with a new deck.

I would also love to hear your experiences with daily pulls and how you personally connect with your tarot decks!

Mod Edit: Removed a link to another tarot site

This would make a great reading group!

Have you thought about leading our own 365 Days Group?

It did cross my mind but I'm not sure if anyone would join, and I don't know how to lead groups. Lots of other excuses on top of that, like not having enough time 😉 Perhaps someone else would be interested?

I think if we co-host it, it would work out for both of us. If not, I wouldn't mind starting it up. It definitely sounds like a great way for beginners and seasoned readers alike to participate.

I don't like the idea of stealing your idea though!

We could create it so that people could drop in and out as they feel able, (akin to the Deck of the Week Group.)

As for logistics, this is a hybrid between a study group and a reading group... @DanielJUK we need your input here.

We could also start it with the winter solstice new year instead of waiting for January!

What do you think?

Please don't worry about stealing 'my' idea, because I stole it from that person on Reddit :D I like the Deck of the Week format a lot, anyone could drop in at any time and post their thoughts. But if people use the same deck the whole time, then I agree that the lines between our group and a study group get blurred. I wonder if we could upload the 365 group posts in the study groups too? Or would that result in too many posts for the server to handle?

I don't think the server would get bogged down, so that wouldn't be an issue.

They line would get blurred because it's presented as a study group with individual card meanings. The question is where to start the 365 Card of the Day Group initially, This is why I tagged @DanielJUK 🙂

The questions I have are:

Will it fit best under:

Individual Card Meanings (a subforum) since we are drawing one card and discussing its meaning?

Tarot Talk & Technique (a subforum) since we are practicing and honing our technique as beginners and seasoned readers? or

Personal Tarot Readings since we are doing daily readings each day? and (suggested) linking our journals back to the original thread? or

Study Groups? There is already a 78 Week Study in Study Groups that is similar to 365 Days, so this would be my choice. It would make the most sense to put it in this forum, IMHO.

Decisions, decisions....

I'm sorry but we don't allow linking to other tarot communities, only ones that are now archives.

I've removed the link

I'll discuss with the other staff members if there is a good way of doing this and if it's possible and get back to you 🙂

That's ok, I just wanted to give credit to that person. Sorry about breaking the rules, I should really re-read them.

We've all been discussing it and some ideas how it might work out. Firstly it's fine to proceed with it, we have permission, it would be a fun project for next year

One important point (okay a pedant's point 😉 ), next year will be 366 days as it's a leap year.

We could create a subsection for it called Card-a-Day 2024 and create it in the Tarot Circles area (or maybe a different area), like the older 30 days of working with the moon section -

https://www.thetarotforum.com/forums/forum/110-30-days-working-with-the-moon-spreads/ this is under Tarot Spreads as it's more about spreads for the moons cycles.

You can create a thread of instructions, a thread where members can chat and share what came up and ask for help with cards coming up, like a group thread and then member's could create their own personal working threads there. We can pin the important threads for the exercise to the top for you.

I think you have to keep it flexible, many members will not be able to do every day or drop out and come back. Maybe some will start halfway through the year. The self reading areas really have to be quite easy going without too much obligation or they won't sign up.

BTW if you want the credit the Reddit poster, why not credit it to "u/Tiny_Jellyfish212", that would be okay within our rules.

If you need any help from us with it, just let us know 🙂

Thank you for your attention on this!

Card-a-Day 2024 in Tarot Reading Circles is the best fit, I think. Could you create a Subforum for us, then please? If I'm understanding correctly, it would be alongside the Lunar & Shabbat and Creative Circles? I think this would be a good fit. My idea is for folks to have their won journals and link them back to the original post.

Check-ins/updates/new threads would begins eight times throughout the year so threads and discussions will start fresh.

We will credit "u/Tiny_Jellyfish212" and stress drop-in/drop-out like the DoW group.

The start date will be Yule December 21.

This sounds like a great idea. 78 * 4 = 312, so some cards might show up five times if we're doing this for a whole year. What should we do if a card appears for the fifth time?

This is brought up by the original author @DanielJUK mentions. I will work out the details in the OP, but one of her suggestions is to focus in on your intuition (iconography, details, colors, shapes, etc.) or to send a personal message to a family member or friend how you feel the card relates to them in your life. Though this second part may be at odds with our third-party rule about readings, so I may need to rethink this part.

How do we feel about naming the section, do we go with "Card-a-Day 2024" or "Card-a-Day Group Readings" keep it open and we can reuse it in the future.

Card-a-Day 2024

This way we can leave it open and have  multiple threads in the future if it heads in that direction (individual study or journaling, personal readings, groups, if individuals prefer exchanges, etc.)

I'm thinking of adding a step in my own practice for reading Tarot literature associated with that card :) But it's your own personal practice so if you have any other ideas or would like to omit steps, then please do so! I'm also thinking of maybe pulling another deck or two and comparing the card across different decks to see if I get a different angle, maybe something I haven't noticed in my current deck that is more obvious in a different one.

Also, I'm wondering if you all are planning to use the same deck throughout the year? There are 2 decks that I really want to work with, but I don't want to overwhelm myself.

I am not planning on a requirement that folks use the same deck for this. Some people won't necessarily have the same decks.

I was also thinking of adding that participants could choose to have more than one card readings each day, or share the occasional multicard reading, for Card-a-Day contribution.

I have a few days to work out the details,  but these points are definitely important points we should be bringing up now in discussion! Keep em coming....

Oops sorry I meant using your chosen deck throughout the year! The original creator was going to use one single deck all year round. Are you going to stick with one deck for yourself, or will you use different ones?

Another good point. I will be using a different deck each week. I certainly wouldn't expect others to stick with one deck for an entire year! I can mention in the OP of the participant thread that it may be a good idea to stick with one deck for a particular set amount of time for study purposes though, but of course that would be up to the individual.

My feeling is to give enough flexibility so as to allow as much accessibility as possible to grow the group.

I'm interested in joining when this starts. 🙂 A card a day is similar to my journal here before, but would be even nicer to do in a shared, group space.

(I prefer not to use reversals, so I'll come up with something else, if that's not a problem to do???   Something like 3) compare with the same card's image in another deck etc.)

Just saw on Instagram that Kerry Ward is releasing a book called "Card of the Day Tarot" in January 2024. She encourages you to do a single card daily draw. Basically she goes through each card and how you can apply it to your everyday life, such as affirmations, do's and donts, reassurances and challenges associated with the card, and more. Thought it would be pretty useful for those wanting to participate in this challenge :) Debating buying it myself.

This would be a good resource you could bring up in discussion no doubt. I wonder if there are other resources that participants have that they might use as well.

Just to say, we can't use any books for group activities or study exercises if they are copyrighted. Sadly most books don't allow public use or for use by non-profits or for teaching / class exercises in the tarot world. It's worth reading the fine print details.

We have done some fun group study exercises in the past but many books cannot be used legally. One book was allowed in the past because a member emailed the author who granted us kind permission to study it here. It's a bit of a minefield for us, so something to take into consideration.

Of course members can use 365 tarot planners in their own lives how they wish. I notice every current tarot author is doing tarot planners, card a day, spread a month type books and a new one annually! Must be good sellers 🙂

Susie Chang has some fun single card exercises that are published online at the Llewellyn site.  One is a "tarot spell" in which you take the card of the day and write a short rhyme or motto for the it to help you envision it through the day. As she says, "Even on days you draw the Tower, or the 10 of Swords... you get to choose what you make of them." The other is a favorite of mine -- "backwards tarot" where you ask a question about which tarot card best represents something first, and then pick the card after with a note about why, which is great for getting familiar with a deck or tarot in general... but it might not be right for this if we want to draw every card randomly.

If either of these are of any interest, or if we find similar ideas that are published online, I'm assuming it's ok to go ahead and do that as long as we link to the source article... Is that right, @DanielJUK ? Or is that not allowed? Thanks.

And now I'm thinking of recording my daily pulls in my Hobonichi Techo. Why haven't I thought of that before?
