DanielJUK Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 A new Tarot horror movie has been made 😱 Originally called Horoscope, based on a book called Horoscope (which surely would be more Astrology based), it's been renamed "Tarot". The synopsis.... When a group of friends recklessly violates the sacred rule of Tarot readings – never use someone else’s deck – they unknowingly unleash an unspeakable evil trapped within the cursed cards. One by one, they come face to face with fate and end up in a race against death to escape the future foretold in their readings. It's a teen horror movie about young people "messing" around with cards. Of course the movie poster has the Death card in it! Let me guess, they do a tarot reading, pull the Death card and start dying one by one. They seem to have the scariest deck possible in the trailer It's due to come out in May this year worldwide but does look a bit of a B-movie, no famous cast or anyone involved. IMDB - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14088510/reference/ Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarot_(2024_film) Trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvDArsKoTOE (it is a horror movie, don't forget before clicking) Recently Tarot has become popular and fashionable, with many people turning to it in these times. Decks have had really good sales. I feel this movie will bring fear and superstition again, the evil entries and fear of the Death card 🤦♂️. It's not going to be good for our community and interest at all. On the other hand, me: I hope it comes with it's own branded deck
ava_jade Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 Thank you for this! Hadn’t heard of it. I love a good B movie and getting a good laugh from the questionable content regarding anything occult related. As far as promoting fear/superstition, it probably won’t have too far of a reach if it’s B movie? At least one can only hope.
gregory Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 Oddly enough my grandson had told me about this, and I have since read the book in question. There ARE tarot cards in it; I am guessing they have ramped up that side of it. I gather it is rather gruesome... But there isn't the "never borrow a deck" thing in there.
ava_jade Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 Wanted to add, that deck looks great. I also hope it come out with the movie, or perhaps the artist will in the future.
gregory Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 Just watched the trailer. That is not AT ALL like the book.
Chelsea_the_Witch Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 Honestly, I love horror movies- especially the bad ones! And I also kind of love that they based it on using someone else’s deck, because that’s such an innocuous thing to do. I’m interested to see how they spin that into something scary.
gregory Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 Trust me - the book - which uses horoscopes with a passing mention of tarot - was plenty scary. I assume they will use the same plot, substituting tarot for horoscopes. You'll be OK with that, but how they spin it to be scary isn't really that difficult. They could have used choices of coffee or literally anything with any kind of options attached. Spoilers from the book available on request !
RunningWild Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 @gregory @DanielJUK Can you please give the title of the book and author? I looked up 'Horoscope' on Amazon and the results were...uhm... I'll read a book before I'll watch a movie.
DanielJUK Posted March 28, 2024 Author Posted March 28, 2024 @RunningWild from Wiki..... It is based on a 1992 novel, Horrorscope, by Nicholas Adams

gregory Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 Sorry - it was named in the first post so I never thought !
DanielJUK Posted March 28, 2024 Author Posted March 28, 2024 I accidentally misspelt the book title in the earlier post 🤣
Chelsea_the_Witch Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 Maybe I’ll check out the book sometime, because horror based on horoscopes sounds really interesting!

Hey, if this movie can help make Tarot scary again ... we must give it our wholehearted support 🤣 This is my feeling. Tired of the mass commercialism and mainstreaming. I want it back. Call me selfish. I hope this movie may scare away the squeamish, if only a little, so be it. Tarot is scary, and awesome. And powerful. It is not for the squeamish. Some superstitions don't hurt anyone.
nord_drache Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 So Hollywood has decided to make a Tarot horror movie . . . Saw a commercial tonight for a horror movie called Tarot, being released beginning of May. Not being a horror movie fan I won't be checking it out. The commercial shows it based off a weird Tarot deck being used for reading amongst a handful of people . . . with horrific things coming out of no where (I seem to remember other movies of this style advertised in the past.) I come off wondering how much creative license will occur in its depiction of tarot readings - heard movie character saying the hanged man a sign of total surrender . . . Will it trigger a surge of interest - making Tarot trendy and / or will it give our community a black eye / battering making us look diabolic. Any thoughts on this . . . or even interests in seeing it . . . Jim
Misterei Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 Tarot is already trendy ... I would happily return to diabolical ... but I think that ship has sailed.
nord_drache Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 Accidentally started a parallel discussion on the movie in another spot . . . hopefully it'll get merged here. I am hearing folk mention how they would like to be a little selfish with their fringe pursuits and not be mainstreamed . . . I understand that and have been there as a hobby suffered trendiness. If we need people to respect Tarot is fear the best method, no matter how fun that seems. I can probably be as dark as many others, but . . . The fear that may regain our fringe status is out of ignorance and misrepresentation . . . sound like many other things going on in the world at large presently ( as well as being the preferred methodology of certain other fringe lurking individuals / organizations ). We need for our fringe pursuit to be respected, not feared. Then let the dabblers discover it not such a thrilling or taboo thing - if some serious talented readers emerge, great. When the dust clears there will be more bargains out there in the form of second hand decks 😆 Just my perspective. . .
DanielJUK Posted April 25, 2024 Author Posted April 25, 2024 I've merged the two horror movie threads together here
Guest Posted April 26, 2024 Posted April 26, 2024 I love horror/slasher/thriller flicks, so after reading this thread I tempered my expectations. I was very pleasantly surprised when I watched the trailer though. It's a Sony release, so one can be assured of at least an acceptable base level of quality. But yeah, it looks like a good, solid production. I'm actually looking forward to watching it. It seems that during a gathering, there is this one chick who read for her friends with a pilfered deck, drawing a trump card for each of them. So one received a High Priestess, another a Hermit, a Magician, a Hanged Man, etc. Although, hmmmm I think one received a Two of Pentacles? Later on, one by one they are visited (and of course, gorily killed) by a vicious monster that reflects the horrific figure in the card they picked. I surmise that their aim is to stop whatever force is killing them. Follow one rule to stay out of danger You're never to deal with the deck of a stranger I think its link to the horoscope is that the reader used a Zodiacal Spread. It has 12 cards arranged in a circle, with each position marked by a zodiac sign in the form of its name and actual sigil. These may be houses though, I dunno. The 13th card, the card in the very middle of the circle, seems to be the one she draws for each of her querent.
Guest Posted April 29, 2024 Posted April 29, 2024 Dunno why I automatically thought that this would be shown on World Tarot Day this May, but when I double-checked I found that it will be released much earlier. What a missed opportunity.

What a missed opportunity. Yeah ... or maybe there would be protests by a mob of angry tarotists at the bad representation? LOL Years ago I ran into a group of protesters outside a Harry Potter movie, they were either Christians protesting the glorification of witchcraft or witches protesting they got it wrong ... I can't remember. OTOH most Tarot folk seem to stay at home with their cards, cats, and a cup of tea rather than go out to protest anything 🤣
DanielJUK Posted April 29, 2024 Author Posted April 29, 2024 I am not sure they really have the tarot community in mind with this. Some pro readers have replied to the film's social channels complaining that it could damage their business and were blocked 🤪. There is some controversy in the online tarot community about this currently!

Now I just wait for movies to stream. I'm sure Sony gives not a fig for tarot community ... one more mainstream corporate jumping on "tarot" to exploit its new popularity and visibility in society. OTOH I'm a pro reader and give not a fig about the movie. It won't hurt my business. Unlike @Akhilleus I can't watch horror flix any more. Used to love them but now I can't watch anything violent at all *sigh*. So I prolly won't watch the tarot horror even though I kinda want to };>
Guest Posted April 29, 2024 Posted April 29, 2024 Lol @Misterei guilty as charged. I like 'em gothic, gory, gratuitous, or any combination thereof. 😅
