As if I need any new decks . . . Speaking of . . . This week will be Black Violet Tarot. Capital Tarot Society had a very nice meeting last week with the creator, Heidi Phelps, as a special presenter in which she shared her creative process. The deck is newly published by Rockpool. It’s a black and white feminine-focused deck. It has purple shiny edges and a purple ribbon in the box. It has two extra cards, Coven and Ghost. Many of the cards look to me like Aubrey Beardsley’s art (but more modern and not as detailed), but she just said “others have said that” and didn’t really confirm him as an inspiration, so ? Shuffle and interview! What is your most important characteristic? Four of Pentacles The hoarder is stuck in the ground with the coins she’s hoarding, instead of at the surface where earth can cause growth. The deck is about preserving something in physical form. What is your strength? Three of Cups It is good at showing community. At night. On the beach under a full moon! Your weakness? Four of Swords Another four. It’s a little too RWS for me, which closes off different thinking. What can you teach me? Page of Cups The deck can teach me to open myself up to offering my emotions to the world. And noticing the little things like the fishy. How can I learn it? Queen of Wands Love love love the lion and cat. Might be my favorite card in the deck because kitty! I can be more emotionally vulnerable but I have to take action, empathetic action, to do that. What will be the outcome of our work together? Eight of Pentacles We will have to work at it, but it will work. I will appreciate the hard work and artistry that went into the deck. No majors. Two suns, two moons. We’ll see how it goes this week!

Hi @Rachelcat ♥ Well, there are some good and - for me - not so ideal things about this deck: The card stock is VERY thin, beautiful but almost flimsy.... The flowers/ plants are "quite abstract" explaining: I got this deck to learn more about plants and especially flowers that do not grow locally, to at least recognize them and learn about their properties. This is an ongoing summer endeavor of mine and involves, books, more books, flash cards, plant talks, meet-ups of our local gardeners and yes, to top it of also decks featuring plants and flowers. This deck, I am having a hard time with - the abstract thing..... There is a quite substantial LWB with it, that explains a few things, the Tarot part of course, the image, and also a small bit about the plant. I will see, how I get on with it. 🙂 3 hours ago, Rachelcat said:
Bodhiseed Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 (edited) Thank you, Fire cat! This week I'll be using the Victorian Romantic Tarot, created by Alex Ukolov and Karen Mahony with Magic Realist Press as publisher. I will also be drawing from Dreaming in Color: the Luman Deck, created and self-published by Mindy Hope Sommers. Today's draws are the Hermit and Journey: People will choose unhappiness over uncertainty. ― Timothy Ferriss The Hermit represents a time of withdrawal in order to do some inner searching. It is a time of questioning: Do I react or respond to life? Am I mostly content, or do I constantly try to fill my life with people, possessions or busyness? What motivates me? Does my mind rarely stay in the present, instead dwelling in the past or future? Such an assessment helps us see our patterns and shows us how we got to where we are. We can then choose to continue our path or make some changes. While the water is visible in the Journey card, the path forward is a bit murky. Such is the way of the spiritual traveler - there is no certainty because the unpredictable path is the practice. Yet we can take Thich Nhat Hanh's advice to heart: “At any moment, you have a choice, that either leads you closer to your spirit or further away from it.” Edited June 11, 2024 by Bodhiseed
