A unique version of Reading Circle for those who would like to work through their collection of decks, participants choose decks from their collections to work with for the week. Some use one deck, others use two or more. Some combine methods: Tarot, non-tarot (e.g. oracle), playing cards, or any other divinatory method is welcome. All we ask is that you use at least one tarot or oracle deck.

No collection is too large or too small. The only rules we have are the Tarot, Tea & Me Rules; Be respectful of one other. Please join us!

  • Please post with your choice of deck(s) for the week
  • Chat away about your deck, how you're finding it (or not), etc., it's all up to you
  • Participants may either choose to share their readings here in this discussion thread or opt to have their own journal in the Journals Forum and link it here
  • Yet others may even have an offline journal in paper & pencil/pen form

Share as often, as much, or as little as you like. You can drop in and out at anytime—reality and life permitting. New to tarot? Long time reader? Come on in!

0.jpg.21ceee604196e642a7b4f2ec9cd91dea.jpgI'm enjoying continuing to immerse myself in the Dark Goddess Tarot by Ellen Lorenzi-Prince.  I do notice that there seem to be more 'dark' Goddesses than 'light', but hey it's called the Dark Goddess Tarot.XII.jpeg.6e791bc00ef3c5d28025956c7d5fa5cf.jpeg

The first criteria by which I evaluate any Tarot deck is aesthetics -- which is of course very subjective.  I find the artwork here to be acceptable -- which is saying a lot as I am very very picky.  I do like the use of deep saturated color.  There are some real gems here.  Some cards are just exquisite.  Check out here:  0 'The Fool' and XII 'The Hanged One'.

I like the fact that the deck is so multi-cultural.  I'm learning a lot.  The chosen Goddesses do seem to match their card meanings very well.

I’m beginning my tarot journey (again) so I’m sticking to a more traditional deck. I will be using the Morgan Greer deck and a RWS deck. At this point I’m mainly reading books and looking through the decks daily. I have a notebook that I plan to start writing notes in. I’m not really drawing cards or trying to read.

Update 6/29/24: And I ended up using my Aquarian tarot and not even touching the decks I said I was using. 😂

I'll be using The Baroque Bohemian Cats' Tarot again.

Thank you, Fire cat!

This week I'll be using the Touchstone Tarot, created and self-published by Kat Black (though now published by U.S. Games). Along with it I'll be using the John Waterhouse Oracle, created and self-published by Elaine Wilkinson. Today's draws are the Ten of Swords and Tristan and Isolde with Potion:

People just make stupid mistakes. And they keep making them and keep making them, and suddenly they can't dig themselves out. ―Karin Slaughter

We all like to be right. But sometimes we defend our beliefs and opinions even in the light of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. We refuse to admit our mistakes or misjudgments, holding on to them like a life preserver. Yet they are really a bag of rocks that cause us to sink rapidly to the bottom of the ocean floor. Pride is the rope that binds that bag to us. However, admitting our errors and realizing we're a fallible human are what will save us and our relationships. The Tristan and Isolde painting show the moment they accidentally drink a love potion and fall in love with each other. The problem was that Tristan was supposed to take Isolde to his uncle the king who was to marry her. Reminds me of getting drunk in a bar and going home with an inappropriate partner. We all need to sober up at times and see reality clearly, but only if we want to enjoy life without feeling angry and frustrated all the time.

@Natural Mystic Guide, I thought I would answer your question about the Dark Goddess in this thread. I use it (and her other deck, the Tarot of the Crone) for personal readings only. I don't generally use spreads for myself, just for those I read for (and those are all simple).

Welcome to this week's group @everyone! I'm at work today and we've been quite busy! I'll personalize later, just wanted to drop a note to say I've updated the OP.

I'm using MG for the solstice reading circle. Not the deck I would have chosen at home, but I'm travelling and I have the tarot in a tin travel version. I'm reminded that it's actually an awesome deck. It was the first *borderless* and thus a real trend-setter--ahead of its time.

Hi @Misterei shall I add you to the list?

@Natural Mystic Guide The Dark Goddess looks interesting. I wonder how many decks we use here enable people to buy more? I've thought about linking but I don't want to come across as preferring one sales site over the other. Maybe I could put in the OP a suggestion that we (as participants) can link a preferred merchant that I can then include in my post as a hotlink? Not sure how the moderators would feel about it...

@Sace Welcome to the group (and the Card-A-Club as well!)  The DoW Group is a fun and enlightening way to share how your decks can work for others, to highlight new or unique reading techniques and spreads, and perhaps to introduce new decks for other members. Pleased to have you here 🙂

@Akhilleus I need to get my Cats out soon. I'm a little worried about bending these cards though. They feel... expensive 😕

@Bodhiseed I've been meaning to ask, do you purposively choose your pairings of decks to match or is it completely random?

Thanks @fire cat pickles but I've got too much going on. Flying home tomorrow and I fear what my cats have done in 28 days sans human supervision. My deck of the week will probably be Bleach 🤣 And then I'll climb Laundry Mountain.

For now, I'm just lurking and commenting. A bit of vicarious enjoyment from the decks of other people.💖

Yes, I do purposefully pair them. Sometimes it takes a few "test drives" to get the ones that pair well for me. And sometimes the two that work well together are an odd pairing! 😁

That’s the deck I’m using! I also like the smaller size. I really like the borderless decks.

I recently purchased a deck that I was introduced to by a post here on the Forum.  It was an Etsy listing and I had never seen it before.

AceCups.jpeg.46c6952a56abf5f50f419d4d73f6fbaf.jpegHere is another beautiful card from the Dark Goddess Tarot.  This is the Ace of Water — ‘Face of the Deep’ or the Ace of Cups.

The explanation in the Dark Goddess Tarot book gives me a new, very rich and meaningful way to relate to this card.  This Goddess is connected to several different Goddesses.  In Babylonia, the sea goddess who is mother of the gods is called Tiamat.  The Hebrew word for the Deep, tehom derives from this ancient name.

A significant part of my daily spiritual practice is the use of chants (usually in Hebrew).  I love this particular chant to tehom and from tehom:

Tehom el tehom korei

Keyn | nafshi at’arog alayich

Tzam-ah nafshi l’elohim

Kol | Mishbarecha v’galecha alai

Yeshuot Panai Velohai

From | the deep I call to you

For you, my soul cries

My soul thirsts for you

You are | sweeping me away

You are | forever here with me

The temptation to buy decks I see here is a daily struggle 😂. I love tarot whether I know how to read it or not. I like the idea of leaving links in the OP. I know I would appreciate not having to search and it would eliminate (for me) the stress and worry of “is this a reputable site?”

If one really wishes to know how justice is administered in a country, one does not question the policemen, the lawyers, the judges, or the protected members... One goes to the unprotected - those, precisely, who need the laws' protection most! - and listens to their testimony.
