RickInBakersfield Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 If so, how do you handle it? Even though I know my cards meanings and I like to think I can "deliver the goods", so to speak. I still get somewhat nervous. How have you overcome this feeling? I know there is a difference between nervous and being apprehensive...but what are your thoughts and comments on this? Rick,
Raggydoll Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 These days I mostly do written readings and so I don’t have to deal with nerves, but in the past I have done a lot of phone readings and face to face readings, and those are definitely different. I vividly remember how nervous I was during those early phone readings. It was stage fright DELUXE 😆 Even though I was good at reading cards, the tension gave me brain freeze. Being very young and a big introvert also did not help! 😁 But the thing is that my jittery nerves actually helped me find and develop my reading style! What happened was that when my brain temporarily shut down to the point where I hardly knew my own name, I decided I had to do something, and so I allowed by mind to go blank and then I started speaking out loud every intuitive thought that I had. I remember that I hardly looked at the cards and instead I allowed my racing heartbeat to become like a shamanic drum, and it altered my state of mind. So that is how my psychic reading style was born! In the beginning I had no idea whether my psychic readings where meaningful or just random garble, but I soon began having return clients and people were recommending me because I had said things that no one but they themselves knew. So it validated that I was on the right track. My next challenge came when I became less scared of performing readings, because then it was not as easy to tap into this other state of mind. So I had to teach myself techniques to refine and develop that reading style. Alongside that, I also studied and read cards in a traditional manner, so in the end, my approach became a mix. I now read both with and without physical tools, and I will draw on both symbolism, correspondences and on my intuitive input. It gives a nice balance and a flavor that works for me. So my best advice is to not feel bad about your nerves, but to embrace it and see what it can do for you. It might not necessarily become a part of your reading style but it might just help you grow in other ways!

I go through all these thoughts before a reading. ~ What if they don't like me? ~ What if I say the wrong thing to them? Or screw up the reading? ~ What if this, what if that etc I would like to do and book my own tarot parties here in my area. But this fear of the sitters does eat at me just BEFORE I start the reading. I guess this is something I have to come to grips with. Rick,

This is a valuable take. What are nerves? Adrenaline. What does adrendaline do? It sharpens the senses. Maybe not on a psychic level as it did for @Raggydoll but I always somewhat appreciate the hightened awareness. Still, no one wants a jittery reader! I recite a mantra aloud before the reading if I feel so nervous I'm off center. The mantra centers me in part b/c I take deep breath with each verse. Generally fast inhale and slow controlled exhale will engage the parasympathetic nervous system and calm anxiety.

Rick, Don’t worry, simply by doing more readings it will get better and better on its own! You might also find that certain decks are less stress inducing than others. I think it’s smart to have a smaller number of decks that you use when you read for others. This means that you’ll get really good at using those particular decks and it builds confidence 🙂
Vento Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 I used to get nervous when it comes to do a reading especially when it refers to some important matter like someone's carrier, life pathway, health etc. These feeling get stronger particularly if im related to person who im reading for, or if its for mine. As long as you can deal with nerves when you are doing readings for strangers, i personally dont think its possible when you do it for and and you really care about some issue youre asking about. At least it depends how much we believe that those carts really predicts future which is "set on stone"..
