A unique version of Reading Circle for those who would like to work through their collection of decks, participants choose decks from their collections to work with for the week. Some use one deck, others use two or more. Some combine methods: Tarot, non-tarot (e.g. oracle), playing cards, or any other divinatory method is welcome. All we ask is that you use at least one tarot or oracle deck.

No collection is too large or too small. The only rules we have are the Tarot, Tea & Me Rules; Be respectful of one other. Please join us!

  • Please post with your choice of deck(s) for the week
  • Chat away about your deck, how you're finding it (or not), etc., it's all up to you
  • Participants may either choose to share their readings here in this discussion thread or opt to have their own journal in the Journals Forum and link it here
  • Yet others may even have an offline journal in paper & pencil/pen form

Freedom is what you do with what's been done to you.
—Jean-Paul Sartre

We all start life with a light load, but our innocence and trust take a hit when we tumble off the cliff into the real world. Yet that lighthearted sense of freedom is still carried within us, waiting for us to realize it is relative to that which we cling. As Joseph Goldstein wrote, "The mind of no clinging is open and vast. It is receptive to everything but holds on to nothing." Like the Fool, we can experience life without feeling the need to take everything with us, constantly pulling it all out to feed our worry, anger or sadness. The verse from the Dhammapada reads:

Health is the foremost possession, contentment the foremost wealth, trust the foremost kinship, and release the foremost happiness.

There are things in life that need our attention and deserve our gratitude. But when we find ourselves miserable, we should ask what we are grasping and refusing to release. Is it worth our freedom?

Hi all!  This week will be Angel Tarot by Travis McHenry.  It’s a repeat because I’ve been once again sucked into the shem hamephorash rabbit hole.  While browsing for new decks (as if I need more!), I saw that Travis McHenry has a new oracle for Rockpool called Oracle of Heaven and Hell combining his versions of the shem angels and demons into double-ended cards.  Unfortunately might have to spring for that.  Then I searched out my shem notes from the last couple of years with info from Steven Skinner’s The Complete Magician’s Tables and Terah Cox’s Birth Angels.

This deck has tarot attributions for the 72 angels, but I’m going to continue to ignore the tarot part.  Previously, I was trying to make up keywords using the list of powers of the angels (in Ambelain, Skinner, and these cards), but now (yesterday!) I’ve made up keywords based on the names of god (in Skinner and these cards).  See attached!  I’ll probably (maybe) include the astro attributions in readings too.

So let’s see how all this is going to work!  Interview time!

Monday.thumb.jpg.12b772ce6158a8dcb85c5e6de7e3d307.jpg

What is your most important characteristic?  Ieialel, Answer (Mercury, Capricorn, Saturn)

The deck can actually provide serious answers to serious questions.

What is your strength?  Vehuel, Victory (Venus, Sagittarius, Uranus)

The deck pay attention to power dynamics.  It’s all about winning, losing, and how to win.

Your weakness?  Ariel, News (Sun, Scorpio, Venus)

It’s not as good at giving concrete information.

What can I learn from you?  Hahaiah, Protection (Uranus, Taurus, Mars)

I can learn about safe spaces, and who can protect me.

How can I learn it?  Seehiah, Relief (Jupiter, Leo, Mars)

Trust that I will be taken care of.  And, going by the astro, act like I know what I’m doing!

What will be the outcome of our work together?  Leuuiah, Listening (Saturn, Cancer, Jupiter)

I will try very hard to figure out what the deck has to say, with mixed results.

Ok then!  We’ll see about all that!

I’m continuing my study of The Ark Animal Tarot & Oracle Deck by Bernadette King.  There are 100+ cards and the guidebook is 370 pages.  Here I shall share some of the distinctive features of the deck with card images as0.jpeg.a29ef356ca3a6b048552fc940ad5736a.jpeg examples.

Each card features symbolic keys at the top and bottom.  Symbols on the top of the card reference Sacred Geometry and the Four Elements.  These symbols include the Hexahedron (Earth); Tetrahedron (Fire); Octahedron (Air); Icosahedron (Water); Dodecahedron (Spirit); Cosmos (Flower of Life); and a symbol of Chaos (Shadow).  The bottom of the card offers two to three keywords or phrases along with a visual symbolic key.  These keys include cultural influences (Shamanic; Asian; Celtic; Mythological; Australian; and Prehistoric); Playing Card Suits; Western Zodiac; and Chinese Zodiac.

The first sample card here is 0 Puffin ‘The Fool’.  At the top we see the Octahedron signifying the Air Element.  The keywords are ‘Childlike Wonder, Trust, Freedom’.  Also on the bottom is the symbol for ‘Shamanic’ as the cultural influence.  Shamanic is a large category encompassing all cultural influences aside from several major defined categories.

Bernadette King explains how each card image has been carefully selected because of its symbolism, facial expression, age, pose, colors, and background to perfectly reflect the traditional meaning of the Tarot cards.  So I thought that it would be fun and interesting to include here one Major Arcana card and a card from each suit including one court card.  See what you think.  See how the Puffin is poised to take a leap?

4Pentacles.jpeg.4117ab698df006e8262fb2cde6274dce.jpegCheck out the clinging posture of the Caterpillar for the Four of Pentacles.  The top of the card features the Hexahedron representing the Earth Element.  The Keywords are ‘Scarcity Consciousness, Material Success, Fear of Loss.  The two bottom symbols are for this card are ‘Shamanic’ as the cultural influence and the Diamond playing card symbol.  Pentacles are Diamonds.

Next we have the Puffer Fish for the Nine of Cups.  He looks quite self satisfied with his smug little smile.  The Icosahedron symbol at the top signifies the9Cups.jpeg.f86b5b4f3f626a8ddac506d88828c7c1.jpeg Water Element.  The keywords are ‘Wishes Granted, Satisfaction, Pride).  Three symbols are on the bottom of this card.  The Yin Yang symbol indicates an Asian cultural influence.  There is the Heart playing card symbol that corresponds to the suit of Hearts.  Finally there is the astrological symbol for Pisces.

4Swords.jpeg.b0bc8c84a3da52c343b5511a7b413a46.jpegThe Sloth, with her relaxed pose, represents the Four of Swords.  She is also associated with the Earth Element according to the Hexahedron at the top of the card.  Her keywords are ‘Quiet Reflection, Waiting Till The Time is Right’.  The cultural influence is Shamanic.  The Swords Suits corresponds to the Playing Card suit of Spades.

Finally a magnificent male tiger stares out at us representing the King of Wands.  His element is Fire as indicated by the Star Tetrahedron symbol.  KeywordsMatriarchWands.jpeg.f051ab57926c81164ae53388e49c4947.jpeg for this court card are ‘Loyalty, An Honorable Spirit, Ferocious’.  The cultural influence is Asian as indicated by the Yin Yang symbol.  The Playing Card suit of Clubs is assigned to the suit of Wands making this the King of Clubs.  The Tiger in the Chinese Zodiacal system has a Chinese ideogram as a third symbol.
