Happy St. Patrick's Day!

A unique version of Reading Circle for those who would like to work through their collection of decks, participants choose decks from their collections to work with for the week. Some use one deck, others use two or more. Some combine methods: Tarot, non-tarot (e.g. oracle), playing cards, or any other divinatory method is welcome. All we ask is that you use at least one tarot or oracle deck.

No collection is too large or too small. The only rules we have are the Tarot, Tea & Me Rules; Be respectful of one other. Please join us!

  • Please post with your choice of deck(s) for the week
  • Chat away about your deck, how you're finding it (or not), etc., it's all up to you
  • Participants may either choose to share their readings here in this discussion thread or opt to have their own journal in the Journals Forum and link it here
  • Yet others may even have an offline journal in paper & pencil/pen form

I am continuing on with the Greenwood Tarot by Mark Ryan & Chesca Potter.

This Greenwood Tarot spread entitled ‘The Wheel’ is to gain insight into my upcoming wedding (April 9).  Here are the card positions and the cards:

1. Significator ‘The Lovers’

2. Present State (crossing the Significator) Page of Cups ‘Kingfisher’

3. Spiritual Mediator Nine of Wands ‘Respect’

4. Conscious Will ‘Balance’ (Temperance)

5. The Source of Power Five of Stones ‘Endurance’

6. Unconscious Empathy Two of Wands ‘Decision’

7. The Challenge Seven of Stones ‘Healing’IMG_3732.thumb.png.73bee208ec90538e4881c12bd3b6ef34.png

8. Healing Element ‘The Seer’ (High Priestess)

9. New Possibilities Four of Arrows ‘Rest’

I like the suggestion regarding preparing the deck, pre-shuffle, to lay out seven cards and then deal the cards into seven separate piles to break down their order and erase any previous alignment.  I’m going to work with this.

Happy St. Pat's Day to you, Fire cat! ☘️ I'm in this week with the Hoi Polloi Tarot paired with the I Ching Pack.

No one can accept responsibility for the spiritual life of someone else.
―John Beckett

It is telling that this Hermit has very little color in a brightly colored deck. I was talking to a friend the other day about how churches must entertain rather than teach these days. People seem to want only fun and excitement on their spiritual path, not the hard work of looking inward or doing service for others. Hexagram 46 reflects the seed's effort of pushing up through the earth. Effort and perseverance are required for any path. Beckett (a pagan) offers "Five Reasons You Can't Find the Right Spiritual Path," which may not sound like a vacation checklist but is definitely worth a read. Here are the bullet points:

~You don’t know your core values.
~You’re so busy running away from something you can’t run toward anything.
~You’re looking for perfection.
~You’re looking for external confirmation.
~You aren’t sticking with something long enough to see if it works for you.

Hi, everybody!  Interesting decks this week!

This week will be Universal Goddess Tarot.  I see on Llewellyn’s site that Lo Scarabeo will be rereleasing this deck as a borderless “Tarot of the Goddesses” in June.  So now is a good time to use it!  A while ago I decluttered my goddesses and ended up with two tarots with one goddess per card, this and Dark Goddess Tarot (plus some oracles).  Also long ago, I typed out the names of the goddesses as they are in the lwb, attached.  And I just rediscovered the lwb in a drawer!  It would be so much better if the goddesses’ names were on the cards . . .  The artwork isn’t quite as cartoonish as I remember.  We’ll see how I enjoy it this week.  Interview time!

Monday1.thumb.jpg.24e116365ad9059c282700b98794f1ff.jpg

What is your most important characteristic?  Knave of Chalices, Hebe

A cupbearer of the gods.  They like having a pretty young thing, male or female, serving them.

It’s a feel-good deck most of all.

What is your strength?  The Hierophant, Aditi

I remember not finding much about this goddess.  I decided her name means “nonduality.”

The strength of the deck is that it’s mostly traditional, but also it combines tarot tradition with older traditions.

Your weakness?  2 Wands, Ateaentsic

Native American mother goddess who birthed twins, one a force for good, the other a force for evil.

The deck is too bifurcated:  cards are either good or bad?  I don’t think so, but we’ll see.

What can I learn from you?  6 Wands, Andraste

Wikipedia:  Goddess of victory invoked by Boudica in her fight against the Roman occupation of Britain in AD 60.

I can learn to take the win when I get one.

How can I learn it?  King of Wands, Brigit

Irish fire goddess.

By taking charge of my actions and energy.

What will be the outcome of our work together?  Knight of Swords, Rhiannon

Several stories about her relate her closely to horses.

Using the deck will be a springboard for me returning to my study of goddesses.

We’ll see about that!

I remember not finding much about this goddess

@Rachelcat This interested me, so I had a quick look for what I could find on her - you may already know these 'bits'.

"God is universally immanent, His(her) presence is ...realised through his(her) most striking manifestations...."

"Of the Adityas I am Vishnu..." (BG)

So there's a sense of the universal everything being comprised of multiple things but nondual as you say.

Another source:

Aditi means "Free from bonds"

"The august mother of the supporters of justice (Mitra and Varuna) the wife of Order, we call you to our aid. O powerful, ever young, far-spreading, kind shelterer, good leader, Aditi!

The solid earth and the good leader, Aditi, we call upon you. the divine ship with strong rowers which never sinks, may we meet with it, and free from sin attain salvation!"

The free from bonds supposedly refers to "the sky" which is where her offspring live, namely the sun and moon - night and day. So this is that non-dualism again as you say. And it's seen in the space / planetary images of the card background.

(SOIT)

I couldn't find any references to her in the index of the SOIT book, but looked via Varuna - so no doubt there's more information, but I'd have to read the whole book to find it.

What a wonderful aspect - and a card to learn more about!

Welcome to the group @xTheHermitx 🙂

The DoW Group is a fun and enlightening way to share how your decks can work for others, to highlight new or unique reading techniques and spreads, and perhaps to introduce new decks for other members.

It's nice to see a "Golden Oldie" deck around, the RWS, too!

So here is my draw and read:

subject: how to deal with and sort out my feelings of burnout towards a job that I have loved all of my life; making a plan to find comfort again;

I have been a band director for all of this time...my dream job. Teaching 5th grade through college. Have had over 1100 students total, and have had many success stories. Have taught the children of best friends who I was in band with at the same school; have been to the weddings of many students who met in my band and fell in love; have had many students tell me that being in band changed, and even saved their lives. So much more to type about, but will save the space....

Read 1. How to deal with the onset of burnout

spread: 3 cards. What has caused the burnout? [this is not a "progression in time" spread, but a "summary" spread]

card 1: 3 of Wands

card 2: Ace of Cups

card 3: 5 of Cups

image.thumb.jpeg.ee2d70dd4c2d69d9e04681c9d12f59b4.jpeg

initial reaction/off the cuff: my cup is overflowing (Ace of Cups), but I have turned my back on something; is it because I have been doing this job for 30+ years, and have forgotten about things that used to make it invigorating? (3 of Wands); or am I "crying over spilled mlik" because events in the past 5-7 years that have made the job not fun(5 of cups). I think both number cards are warning me to not take something for granted, or that I am missing something

Studied read:

3 of Wands: (fire; Aries; Sun) definitely representing the work I've done for 30 years to "get the machine going" and to keep it going; I am active in the plan, and have definitely reaped the rewards of success. Walls full of trophies; students who are now teaching, or performing at the highest levels; my job motivates and defines my life; helping young lives grow into strong, mature, self sufficient, and self aware adults has always been a fiery passion of mine

Ace of Cups: (water;Cancer/Scorpio/Pisces) THIS IS ONE OF MY TOP 3 FAVORITE CARDS!!! I firmly believe that this card is confirming that I am still in the correct place. Everything about this card can describe the past 30 years of my career. I was lucky to fall into my position at work, and create and shape it. It has been "a gift of the gods", or more specifically for me, a gift from Heimdall. The fact that the Aces are the roots of the elements also prooves to me that what I have done for my career IS my core: helping others experience the joy and abundance of life through music.

5 of Cups: (water; Scorpio;Mars) CHANGE; and negative change(?)...which there has been a lot of recently; a lot of things that have been "getting in the way". Personal health problems that have made me feel less "young and vibrant"; administration and staff changes at school have put bullshyte burdens on the band program, and I can't immediately fix it<- I feel like that is Mars coming into play....;

overall observations:

I feel like the change of the 5 of Wands has interrupted the flow of the first 2 cards. The 3 of Wands and definitely Ace of Cups have a positive flow of energy, and the 5 of Cups' flow is that of a bit of chaos, or at least, it is a different/unseen current...possibly a current I was not prepared for? I have definitely withdrawn into a shell of depression in the past 5 months due to a health issue that has forced me to not be able to be my normal vibrant self. As soon as that card turned over, I was like "Yep"...was sort of like that with all of the cards.

I am very glad, and relieved to see the Ace of cups in the middle here, because I think it is a powerfull reminder that my root/core life definition is still "center", even in all of the recent darkness. My true self has not changed. i have been worried about that. I also wonder if the 5 of Cups is telling me that maybe it is time to "turn down the fire" that the 3 of Wands represents? Like, maybe take time to sit back, and enjoy the fruits of my labor? I am not 25 anymore...take the time to let the fire warm me, instead of consistently looking for wood to keep it going? But, I love the feeling of the drive and passion to keep going...to improve....AAAAAGGGGHHHH! The currents are clashing!  Maybe it is time to seek out a different way to experience the drive and passion....HMMMMMM

ok, will leave it at that for now. Next weeks spread might be to identify those other ways to expereince drive and passion...or how to kick depression's ass....

hmmm....
