A unique version of Reading Circle for those who would like to work through their collection of decks, participants choose decks from their collections to work with for the week. Some use one deck, others use two or more. Some combine methods: Tarot, non-tarot (e.g. oracle), playing cards, or any other divinatory method is welcome. All we ask is that you use at least one tarot or oracle deck.

No collection is too large or too small. The only rules we have are the Tarot, Tea & Me Rules; Be respectful of one other. Please join us!

Thank you Fire cat - hope you had a restful weekend. I'm in this week with the Tarot of Durer paired with the Philosopher's Stone Deck.

We live our lives supposing things are as they appear to be when that is almost never the case.
― Richelle E. Goodrich

Don't judge a woman by her coverings. This Queen is nearly unrecognizable, but her cheekiness in showing a bare leg is a big hint, as is the crown on her baton and lion at her feet. We are geared to make assumptions about appearances, but we are wiser when we do not. The Stone card shows off its skill in levitating a stone over its head - sort of like us walking while balancing a book on our head. It suggests that we would do well to draw our conclusions from actions rather than how people look or what they say. Our house got hit hard by Hurricane Michael, and the flooding that ensued from it necessitated moving our HVAC unit, pulling all the mucky ductwork from under the house, and putting new ductwork in the attic. These repairs unfortunately left a huge hole where the unit had been with no bricks to fill the wall. After much searching, a friend recommended a fellow who agreed to find some bricks and do the job. This man was in his 80s, had only a few teeth, and couldn't speak well. But today, no one can tell where the old brickwork meets the new. Outer appearances can hide much.

Hi!  Here's something I put together a while back just if you're interested.  I don't have the deck anymore, but I'll enjoy seeing it here!

Hi, crew!  Thanks, @fire cat pickles!

This week will be Tinker’s Damn Augustus F. Norwood Legacy Edition Tarot & Mantegna 2-Deck Set, Revised Second Edition, by Duck Soup Productions.  Wow, what a mouthful!  It’s a tarot + oracle set in an early 20th century collage style.  Some of the photos are of known historical figures, others seem to be random old pictures.  Augustus F. Norwood is a fictional character that the artist has credited with the creation of the decks, complete with a brief “legend” on a card.

Many of the majors are renamed.  Suits are the elements; courts are Courier, Soldier, Mayoress, and Mayor.

The oracle is a full Mantegna set (consisting of ten each of human estates, muses, liberal arts, virtues, and celestial spheres/planets) (my interps are attached) plus astro signs, four elements, four moon phases, six mythical animals/beings, and “The Wild Unknown” (which is also the alternate name of Death in the tarot).

I just ordered another Duck Soup deck that I haven’t received yet, so I thought now is time to use this one.  I had (and later gave away) the first edition of the tarot and used it as a deck of the week back in my first year of decks of the week, 2020.

I’ll probably use the set in tarot + oracle pairs as usual, but I might go crazy and shuffle them together at some point.  But first, let’s try separate interviews.

What is your most important characteristic?  The Wild Unknown (Death)

The deck is all about endings and what comes after.  After the macabre skulls and bones, on the other side of the curtain, shadowy figures continue on their way in companionship.

What is your strength?  Two of Water

It is a good relationship deck, especially for equal relationships.  Or (looking forward to Temperance), it’s a good deck to use for balancing strong emotions.

Your weakness?  Courier of Fire (page)

It can be kind of silly!  Which I think is an advantage, not a weakness!  Readings sometimes need a little flash of light in the darkness (of the wild unknown?).

What can I learn from you?  Alchemy (Temperance)

Wow, lots of majors.  I can learn how blending two things can lead to a completely new thing.  Temperance is my “teacher card,” so I’m always looking forward to learning it.

How can I learn it?  Moloch (Tower)

I can depend on the deck to help me be calm and constructive when things look catastrophic.  Moloch was a god who demanded child sacrifice.  I’m thinking the connection with the Tower is that it’s about destruction for destruction’s sake, with no morality or necessity involved.

What will be the outcome of our work together?  Five of Earth

I’ll go broke buying more decks!  Just kidding.  Maybe the opposite:  I’ll find it a deck that I really connect with, making it unnecessary to buy so many more.  We’ll see!

What is your most important characteristic?  Selkie

The deck is not always what it appears, which can be an advantage or a weakness.  (If you take the selkie’s seal skin, it can’t turn back into its preferred form, a seal.)

What is your strength?  Cancer

The deck is both emotional and kind of silly.  It’s a valuable pearl hidden in a worthless oyster shell.

Your weakness?  Urania (Heavenly), the muse of astrology

These two definitely pair.  The deck is vulnerable to lots of variations in interpretations, including perhaps self-biased readings.

What can I learn from you?  Melpomene (Singer), the muse of tragedy

I can learn that everybody has something going on with them, a sadness or character flaw.  People are people, and all deserve at least some compassion.

How can I learn it?  Jupiter

I can learn about tragedy by understanding that there is also expansion and good luck in the world.  Sometimes it’s a good thing to look on the bright side of life.

What will be the outcome of our work together?  Imperator (Mark Twain)

The deck will help me understand more about power, how it can be a problem, but it can also help preserve the good in our culture.

Well, that was a positive and negative tennis match!  We’ll see how it all turns out.
